One of my favourite memories of the vault is staying on, when the rest of my clan had gone to bed and just chilling out on patrol in front of the vault, sniping at vex from the top of a pillar and just taking in the scenery.
One of the plates hums to life and that unmistakable sound of the vex machinery clunking as a raid begins. I aim down icebreaker's scope at the left plate and, sure enough, see a team beginning the raid. I quickly switch weapons (pulse rifle to aetheon's, icebreaker to found verdict, and machine gun to gjally) and head over to enter the fray. I quickly weigh up the situation (who looks like they're struggling, are there any guardians down/out of position) and, more often than not, take up my position bolstering the left (bottom plate). Sometimes others sparrowing though on patrol join in, sometimes no-one comes by for the (seemingly) short time it takes for the shimmering sound and series of clunks that signify the door opening.
I rush to the door, waving to each guardian as they enter, and they wave/dance/point in return. Sometimes i'm invited to join due to shortage of numbers and i happily accept. Sometimes the fireteam is full but that extra body has helped make the opening of the door a bit less painful, and that knowledge is all the thanks i need. For all i know this may be the fireteam's first foray into the hidden mysteries of the vault and i've helped them begin their adventure or it could be their twentieth and i've helped save them time and get the door open straight away, it doesn't matter. The ability to do this was sadly missing from Crota and Oryx, and i think may be an element that contributes to the enduring legacy of the Vault.
The opportunity that having the Vault entrance accessible on patrol gave meant that you really never knew how your night was going to end up, and I think that that unpredictability was part of the magic of the early days of destiny. I hope it returns.

1 ReplyTop post. I was hanging around in the Waking Ruins yesterday, mainly doing my 10 vex majors bounty but also hoping for that scenario to arise.
-
3 RepliesCan you imagine seeing the fireteam of people in the plagelands fighting a raid mini boss that be something
-
2 RepliesHave they said anything about the release date of the raid? Like will it be available Tuesday or not until Friday?
-
Anyone else read the title as. " Found entrance to new raid on patrol " ?.
-
2 RepliesI believe that several of the game informer articles and discussions of RoI have said that the raid entrance and a few other parts will be visible from patrol, as many sections of it will be outdoors (a nice change)
-
2 RepliesMeanwhile the raid team is saying i wish this random would piss off he is snaking my kills

2 RepliesI've entered many raids that very same way. Met some of my greatest online friends by helping out on Venus patrol. Great post.

1 ReplyI agree guardian. I used to do same thing before crota. Ahh good memories ☺
-
3 RepliesI guess it's cool, but it's also like walking in on your parents doing it.

2 RepliesAND not completely locked out for 1-2 players. Being able to solo The lamps and get rewards each week on my own time (or "Sherpa" singles to get the over soul edict and radiant materials) was one of my favorite things ever in this game.

Edited by Seldser: 8/6/2016 8:44:46 PMI would love for the majority of it to be visible to players on patrol, so that even if they can't help, they can look into the distance and see six figures taking on the raid encounters
-
1 ReplyThey said you can see most of the raid from patrol. But they didn't say if you could go to it.

just like VoG

1 ReplyWould be nice to hangout and find a team outside the raid rather than a website IMO.

Totally agree, it really added to the feel that you were in an open world where Guardians were coming and going, each on their own little mission. I'd have liked more of this for Strikes too, you see three guardians drop in on patrol sometimes then immediately Sparrow/run off in the local strike's direction. Would have been nice if the first encounter was also in an open area. I miss VoG, its not the same these days. I really hope the new raid will be as involved.

1 ReplyFirst time I came across the vault I was lvl 13 and was hopelessly lost ( being a noob ) and I was just like 'this place looks cool' and then for the next 30 minutes I had Praetorians coming down on me and reeming my ass

I did this to sometimes, I loved it. I hope they do this again.
