I did overlook one point I've picked up from countless other threads on this very emotive subject. That being cost. I know that a new PS4 runs about £260 and an XB1 is around £240 (on amazon), now your costs will vary with your currency (a PS4 bare bones 500gb is $353 on amazon.com). I know that right now, not every has that kind of cash to drop on a brand new console. But, consider... you "can" trade your old PS3 in for a few quid and any games (remember they aren't backwards compatible.... but that's an argument we had 3 years ago) which will bring that down a bit and every little helps.
Something a lot of people may not have thought of though, is my PC example. I'm as guilty as the rest in this. My old PC lasted 5 years, I upgraded the gfx card twice, the ram twice, uprated the PSU and went through 3 mice and 2 sound cards. So over 5 years, I put around £600 into that PC.. very roughly... Which when you think about it, most PC gamers do, constantly..... With a console, not so much upgrading, one off cost gets you everything for as long as it runs (10 years, for instance).
And in case anyone doesn't know, it's believed Sony will unveil the new 4k PS 4.5 at E3 next week... which might just bring those PS4's down that bit more......
