This is great news for the game coming into Year 3!
In doing this, Bungie has free'd themselves from last gen hardware and is able to deliver great content going into Year 3.
This means more, wait for it 'Vault Space' Possible custom matches etc, character recreation, amazing polished graphics, possible weather patterns in pve and pvp, being able to add live events with a breeze and being able to add in content dlc or content for Year 3 without last gen holding us back.
Year 3 is shaping up to be an awesome year.
Again sorry last gen but it had to be done.
I own a PS4 since year 1 so I'm good.

I really do think that the limitations of the last gen consoles have held back destiny in some ways with its very noticeable limitations so now that Bungie doesn't have to make the last gen and next ten equal with content so now the next gen consoles can really make the most of everything that the PS4 and Xbox one can offer to us. Plus if destiny players on the Xbox 360 and PS3 really want to continue to destiny adventure then they'll upgrade to next gen increasing sales for Sony and Microsoft Win win

1 ReplyBeyond vault space, almost none of those things would/could happen without redesigning the engine of the game, i.e. not a DLC. I'm all for a new gen. overhaul, but it won't be happening soon.

Long overdue
-
It is a bit weird they are doing this for the final dlc component of D1...makes sense for D2 but to fork the game now for the last dlc that will only last a few months seems a bit shit...
-
Xbox 360 came out when 2005? They should not be spending development time on an 11 yr old console. Should have been this way since taken king

Moving away from old gen is an important step and I agree that Bungie should be lauded for it. However, as is always the case it seems I feel that it did a good thing with one hand and a bad thing with the other. Moving to current gen with D2 would be the right move and the expected move. Discontinuing old gen for a DLC that the community was told would not happen and the absence of which was used as reasoning to mitigate the disastrous introduction of micro-transactions. Delaying D2 ostensibly to allow for a DLC that again we were told would not happen. Not adequately addressing or pre-addressing the predictable reactions of the fan base that we have already seen evidenced time and again. Moving to current gen is the sensible move, the right next step, what we all did (or should have) seen coming. Doing it this way, making all these same mistakes that they claimed they had learned from. Once again dangling previous content in new skins as a marketing ploy to make money. All bad moves in my opinion.

2 RepliesI disagree, if they started Destiny 1 on last gen they should finish it there. This "updating" is completely unfair and inconsiderate to all the loyal customers who happened to buy on last gen.

3 RepliesEntitled and whiny people will be the downfall of video games, and society in general. Nobody really cares if you have kids to feed, sick family, bills, issues, income problems, or anything for that matter, because this is another instance where NOT EVERYBODY GETS TO DO EVERYTHING! We've built up this spineless society of "Everybody gets a medal" and "No child left behind" situations and policies that encourage people to believe that we're all somehow equal. The truth of the matter is, we're not equal. Some people make more money, some people decide not to have kids early, some decide not to have kids at all, some work their way through life and earn a good education to better their lives, and on the flipside, some don't do any of those things, have no expendable income and get to continue playing their Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Face it, video games are a privilege and a frivolous luxury, and those without the financial means don't get to enjoy this frivolous luxury. Quit your whining, get your priorities straight, find ways to make your life better and stop thinking that everything will be handed to you or be made easy to attain. Bungie owes you nothing. Activision owes you nothing. They're in it to make money. The rest of the community, who have managed to move to the new consoles within the last three years (another laughable scenario, since these are hardly "new" consoles now), keep your light strong and get ready for Rise Of Iron and Destiny 2. Cheers.

1 ReplyI love that they cut last gen, it will enable 60 fps, and overall better quality content. I mean look at black ops 3 on ps4, then again on ps3. Insane difference
-
1 ReplySomething tells me the only reason why it existed on last ten in the first place was orders from Activision, thought they could cash in a few bucks, same deal with Black ops 3.
-
I agree. I'm sorry last gen, but your holding gaming back a bit.
-
I agree I'm glad they are moving away from the last gen console sadly I own a legacy console and I kinda wish that this dlc was going to be the last installment but I completely understand.
-
Wow, you jumped on that D, something quick.

11 RepliesEdited by GIDEONkjv: 6/10/2016 8:30:42 PMWhy are soooo many people surprised by this? How many companies do you see that support a product that is almost a decade old (especially in the electronics/computer field)?? The ones complaining about them leaving a VERY OLD generation behind need to ask yourself.. HOW LONG SHOULD THEY SUPPORT IT? Is there like a time frame that would be adequate for you guys???? I mean come on, gimme a break! You can get the new consoles for nearly $300! I could just as easily complain that I have a current gen system that I paid my hard earned money on and the games are constantly being held back because of last gen requirements! (Destiny is a good example of this)! Technology is going to move on with or without you guys... get use to it!

Edited by JasperGTR: 6/10/2016 10:00:32 PMHad nothing to do with vault space, customized anything, or weather, etc... All of these things already existed in many other games before the One/4 was a thought.

Edited by Legion: 6/10/2016 9:58:53 PMIt would have happened sooner or later. The content is okay as is, not the best. I started playing again recently and it has not drawn me back in as it did in Y1. So for the coming of Y3 I'm sure I won't be missing much with the recent free content given. For them to drop service for the PS3 and The 360 it might just save the game. Fck, I'm still waiting for FFXIV to drop the PS3 so they can continue on with further expansions, that is the day I will buy a PS4 and maybe return to Destiny (hardcore) as well.

It sucks but, me being 15 I will be getting a job soon and I can go from there to advance into next gen. I can't wait to see what Bungie is holding for us in the future, it was a good move.

Bump 4 l8r

PS4.5 will be drinking your tears soon enough
-
While I agree and am elated to say I'm finally upgrading this week, a lot of that is probably doable. Take battlefield 4 for example. While not a beauty on last gen, it still had extremely large maps with weather changes/environment changes on a lot of them.

3 RepliesDestiny came out for last gen conlsoles not the xb1 and ps4 i think everyone is forgetting that
-
7 RepliesAgreed. The 360 is over 10 years old now. Making all the content work on all the consoles prevented destiny from evolving. If you don't think the old consoles prevented progress, just remember, and I phone 5 has twice the ram as a 360.
-
Thank you, people need to get with the times

2 RepliesIt's too bad welfare doesn't pay for gaming consoles

Lol. "legacy consoles"

6 RepliesEdited by IKEABOSS123: 6/10/2016 8:15:36 PMIf you own a PS3 or XB360 you can move all your characters and gear across as your account is tied to PSN (or XBL). You do however have to buy everything again (such as the xpac's) but as this will be a 3rd year you should be able to get everything by having TTK and RoI. I know alot of last gen owners are very bitter about this move, many other games moved a couple of years ago but that tends not to be noticed as much. PS3 has been with us for 10 years, PS4 for 3 now. Does anyone with a "last gen console" have a 10 year old PC which can run say, "Overwatch" at 50fps (or even at all)? Sadly last gen has to go eventually and 10 years is a heck of a run and testament to the console designers and also the game designers for managing to provide a game which will get the most out of the technology for such a long time. For the record, before anyone starts bashing. I've moved consoles 6 times (PS1, 2, 3, 4 and XB, 360 and XB1). Not always back to back and I've played Destiny on the PS3 and PS4 in year 1, moved to the XB1 before the end of year 1. I'm fortunate enough to have had my XB1 brought by my wife as a 40th Birthday present but the rest I paid for myself. It's been a heck of a ride for last gen, but time has come to let them go.......
