Just read Deej's latest post and it seems that skill based match making is out the window in favour of connection based.
I've been trying to get my friends into playing some pvp recently as they hated it last year. They are still finding their feet, trying to discover what guns to use etc, and now here they are about to get demolished and demoralised one again.
Why?
Because, as usual, Bungie only listen to their friends and the elite Twitch steamers.
I've read many threads by these people complaining about how their games are a grind now that they are matched up to people of equal skills and how they DEMAND to be able to go into a match and just enjoy themselves by destroying all they see.
People complained about the lag. I'm not sure I noticed a massive difference to be truthful. All I ask is for my weapons to cause the same damage as others using the same thing.
As usual, we'll have to wait and see how this plays out, but it's getting to the tipping point now fellas. Carry on pandering to the minority and you will finally finish this game for the people who pay your bills.
Edit: To the people who are asking how a noob can get better if (s)he's not being challenged by going against good players.
Answer me this. By your own logic, how can good players get better if they are going up against noobs?
Surely playing people of similar and slightly better ability is what you are looking for.
Do you really think shooting fish in barrels improves your angling skills?
Second edit: well, I still have a good memory of all the whining that occurred prior to SBMM happening. The amount of hated directed to bungie at every iron banner.
It would appear from reading the comments that red bars was never an issue during CBMM.
I hope you all remember this thread when it goes back. Can't wait for all these no red bar, no lag games during next week's IB.
Let's just see shall we.

You do realize that if you take your friends into a sbmm match, the other team will be based on your skill. Since you have played more crucible.
-
2 RepliesSBMM sucks in any type of pvp You can you SBMM in cod because the k/d will even out. In destiny a good player may have a 1.4 kd simply because it's too easy to get kills because of supers and constant heavy ammo.

This is so -blam!-ing dumb. You're not going to get demolished by the magical elites every game. The bottom 1% won't find their games riddled with the top 1%. You're going to run into a variety of players and if you're in the absolute lowest tier of crucible skill, you're going to get your ass kicked regardless. So enjoy the game and enjoy connection based matchmaking. Less lag for everyone.

13 RepliesJust get good or have fun losing, it is a COMPETITIVE multiplayer. If you are bad, you will lose a lot, if you are good you will win a lot.

You will learn by repetitions or blunt force trauma.

5 RepliesId rather get killed by a better skilled player than some guy lagging all over the map.

SBMM is very much a thing. Playing on a friend's account today to help out with IB bounties, I have been completely dominating. Sometimes I dominate anyway, but never to this extreme. 6 matches in a row I ended up with several 10+ kill streaks, double and triple downs, and The Best...Around every single match. Most times by 2000+ points.

OP's opinion privileges have been revoked.

The match matching does work. Not all the time because I still get matched against much better players but I've played on my buddies account quite a few times who is about a .4 kd and it matches me with players that are not very good at all(some might say scrubs).
-
1 ReplyLets see here.. If 90% of players are casual and only 10% are top tier players that means that at most there might be 1 or 2 really good players per match.. OMG so unfair! Stop crying kid

No. That is all.

57 RepliesDear OP, Skill Based Matchmaking is the Devil's work. As a person at a respectable skill level, my Crucible matches are hardly fun. They are all against sweaty, try-hards with Last Words and aimbot snipers. Do you know what this means? This means I can't have fun. I can't go into a crucible match with NLB and a fusion rifle without being scrubbed. Under Connection-Based matchmaking, I won't always have to sweat against players who just want to increase their KD.
Answer me this. By your own logic, how can good players get better if they are going up against noobs?
You act as if good players will always be matchmade against noobs. As a decent PvP player, I would both improve and have fun if I'm put into a pool of Guardian's that are both better and worse than me. Under SBMM, I'm always playing players of my own skill. Therefore, no one improves. It just gets harder and harder.
I've read many threads by these people complaining about how their games are a grind now that they are matched up to people of equal skills and how they DEMAND to be able to go into a match and just enjoy themselves by destroying all they see.
This is exactly why I'm against SBMM. I can't play a crucible match before I go to work, laying down on the couch. I have to be focused, eyes glued to the screen in order to come out positive in any of my matches. This would be acceptable for Trials of Orisis, but not regular crucible.
I've been trying to get my friends into playing some pvp recently as they hated it last year. They are going to get demolished because they are inexperienced. You know what happens when you are inexperienced at something? You are going to suck at it. And the only way to get better is to practice. Being good at PvP isn't a Birthright, it's a skill that is honed. It's how I got better, by getting destroyed by better players and learning their tactics and strategies. This is how it is in every video game.

Did you ever think about the fact that playing without lag has nothing to do with "elite" players not wanting to play against similar skilled players? Most of the SBMM complaints come from negative K/D players. But you did not include that in your post.
-
It's such a shame you can't lagswitch anymore.
-
if you actually paid attention, they weren't just asking to remove SBMM they want to get ranked and we should have it anyway, since Crucible claims to be competitive but Bumgie doesn't know what to call or do with Destiny, and Destiny has no identity or substance, so either PvE or PvP eventually will have to give way to the other, or Bungie will have to do it artificially
-
2 RepliesWhat they want is ranked and un ranked lobbies. Because sometimes you want to just have fun. But if everything is sbmm then you can't casually play pvp. It is always try your hardest or get rekt.
-
It's a sad sight, especially considering we have those fags commenting.
-
6 RepliesOf course skilled players are going to have their way. I love stopming on scrubs.

12 RepliesElite players!!????,in destiny!?...lololol,lmfao

Stop crying cause you're bad.

I checked my last couple dozen matches in the IB this week and never had another player with an ELO much higher than mine. I have a sub 1.0 KD. I feel the same as you by the way about SBMM. The new systems have made PVP enjoyable to me for the first time. I have time to think about tactics to get better. I believe Bungie is working very hard to give players of all skill level the best experience possible.
-
My only complaint is I can't get the best around this week... I'll be eating that IB bounty.
