Black Screen of Death with message "Oops, something bad happened..."

I've been playing Destiny for over a year on my Xbox360. I recently got an Xbox One for my son and I. We switch back and forth still between the two because we have more friends on the 360. In that last two weeks, when I start Destiny on the Xbox One it goes to the Taken King Start screen, I hit 'A', it starts loading, then the emblem in the bottom right freezes, about a minute later the whole screen goes black with a message in the top that says "Oops, something bad happened..." and eventually it tells me to "Feel Free to restart your gaming platform" and nothing happens. I cannot get to the Xbox screen anymore, nothing. I downloaded this week's update, no change. I unloaded the entire game from my Xbox One and downloaded it again, and it still does the same thing. I have other Xbox One games, and they are fine. I can play Destiny on my 360 and it's fine, but the Xbox One just freezes and crashes. I can't play as much with my son now, and I bought the Xbox Ones for both of us. His is fine. The only difference between my Xbox One Destiny subscription and my 360 is that I have some Digital Bonus packages on the One. Can someone help me?

  • Try clearing your system cache on the xbox with the issue: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/12539 had a buddy run into this on Monday, and that was enough to fix it for him. If that doesn't work, try completely uninstall Destiny (delete all files related to the game), clear the system cache, then re-install again. https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/12288

    • Hey Archon, sorry to hear you are experiencing issues. As a first troubleshooting step, please clear your consoles cache, you can find steps on how to do that for each platform here.
I unloaded the entire game from my Xbox One and downloaded it again, and it still does the same thing.
If this issue persists after clearing your cache, you will need to: 1) Remove all Destiny content from your console. 2) Clear your cache again, this is an important step after uninstalling Destiny related content. Make sure if you are playing on Xbox One that you are powering down the console and not putting into standby mode. Following the steps in the article will avoid this issue. 3) Reinstall Destiny content and attempt to sign in. You can find an article on re-installation here. If you are still experiencing issues after following these steps, it may be indicative of issues with your disk, hard drive or other console hardware, at this point it is recommended to contact your console manufacturer for further troubleshooting and help.
