The universe is often times related to a watch... It has intricate designs that all work together so that it functions, just as our universe does. However, does it make sense that the watch simply appeared there? No, it was made, or created, by an intelligent being, just like our universe...

Whoever wrote the bible created a lot of ignorant people who refuse to believe in facts. Or maybe they were always like that...

Edited by U124926: 2/3/2016 11:28:16 PMSo your argument is: A manmade object has a maker. Therefor the universe has a maker. 10/10

2 RepliesThere are 3000+ gods how come your god is the only one to exist?

10 RepliesEdited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 2/3/2016 3:08:59 PMSo where did this intelligent designer come from? Who created it? Everything requires a creator. Except god. Everything requires a beginning. Except god. Everything requires a cause. Except god. Do you not see the fallacious pattern here? God is an answer of convenience. Don't set standards of logic if you are then going to immediately turn around and break those standards. We just plain don't know the answer to the big questions and there is nothing wrong with that.

1 ReplyEven if it was made by God. It still just appeared there one day. You need a better argument.
-
Just stop, please. They won't listen, it's not worth arguing over
-
Think of it more as if it weren't a watch, we wouldn't exist.

A watch is a concrete manifestation of a tangible skill. God should never be considered a being. The true term god doesnt have any reference to a -blam!-ing "being". They are stupid tenets for stupid sheep. If the term god is used properly, it is the term use for the completely intangible concept of the creation of the universe. God means "all that is". To personify it is diluting tje concept so dumb religious zealots can actually grab a hold of it.

2 RepliesIn a sense, a pile of dirt is pretty complex too. It has stones, soil, foliage, sand, insects, maybe some water etc. It doesn't mean that somebody arranged it like that.

1 ReplyNot necessarily an intelligent being. It could be the fart of a demiurge shaped like Chris Christie.

Have you ever had a moment when you try and think about changing reality it pause life and think about how small you are? It feels weird, like you've gone to the dashboard of a console and are doing... Nothing. Try imagining someone else's view at the moment (your teacher in the front of the room and what they see), it's actually easy to be honest. There is no force to believe in, or God to worship, all we can do is accept that things just became and then were there.

3 RepliesHere's a set of assumptions that you made. 1. A watch is complex (no arguments here) 2. A watch has a watchmaker (well, duh) 3. The universe is also complex (alright) 4. Therefore, the universe must have a watchmaker. (Lolwut) Look at that last step. Using that exact same logic, I'm gonna make me a set of assumptions 1. Leaves are complex cellulose structures. 2. Leaves grow on trees. 3. Money is also a complex cellulose structure 4. Therefore, money grows on trees.

1 ReplyAtheists do not argue that the universe simply popped into existence. That's just the current scientific understanding at this moment in time. It is incomplete, as the origin of the universe is most likely a combination of many, many factors. And as such, it will take very, very long to fully unravel the answer, if ever unraveled completely. But, like evolution, any future and more complex answers to the question asking about the universe's origin will certainly make more sense than a divine being creating it within a week. Along with evidence to back it up.

1 ReplyLet us pretend for a second that your logic is actually sound. All you have done is cleared the way to become a Deist. All of your work is still ahead of you if you want to get to a personal God that the major theistic religions claim exists.

Edited by Cool Pretzel: 2/3/2016 10:12:53 PM
The universe is often times related to a watch... It has intricate designs that all work together so that it functions, just as our universe does.
The universe has no specific function, the universe simply exists.
However, does it make sense that the watch simply appeared there?
We have no answers to how the basic matter appears in the universe.
No, it was made, or created, by an intelligent being, just like our universe...
Yet, it's a very large leap to make to say that the universe was created for the purpose of humanity. Let's say for a moment that everything you said is true. All that it could prove is that there is an intelligent being that created the universe, and nothing else.

How to make a Christian squirm. Who made God?

I am willing to bet my first-born child that you will refuse to read and understand this.

Edited by pjt75: 2/3/2016 8:55:20 PMThat's a nice false dichotomy you've got there. Look, I don't care what you believe, but if you're going to make an argument, at least don't resort to using logical fallacies.

3 RepliesYou can't prove that there is a God and atheists can't prove that there is no God. When science reaches point where we can have real evidence on such matter, I suggest neither groups waste their time arguing with each other. Any religious person who tries to convince me that his God is real can go -blam!- themselves. And any atheist who tries to convince me that all religions are outdated and God doesn't exist can also go -blam!- themselves. There is nothing worse than obnoxious assholes who try to force their shit on you.
