Fine I'll make a stupid sunbreaker balance post.

Everybody came on to my stupid post talking about balance and I didn't want it to be a balance post but you -blam!-ing did it anyway. You got me worked up and I'm grumpy and sleepy and now I'm talking about balance. So now I'm gonna tell you why sunbreaker is complete shit in every way (I'm not exaggerating, you're exaggerating) They made a god damn subclass based entirely off the super and then they nerfed the super. Terrific. And no one thought this would completely -blam!- the balancing of the subclass? No one? Anywhere? Just me? Well hindsight is 20/20 They made an average subclass with mediocre abilities and then gave it an overwhelmingly powerful super with an extra long charge time. That was the plan. And it worked. Issue is that no one liked that subclass design, they hated having to fight a super that's so powerful. So they wanted it nerfed to be "in line" with the other supers, then it will be balanced right? Right. But no one saw the double standard. Yup nerfing the super in a subclass who's point is to have a good super made it just a mediocre subclass overall. So now we got mediocre average abilities with an average super to go with it. Why the hell should I use sunbreaker over gunslinger or bladedancer? Spoiler: I shouldn't. So fine. People don't like that style of subclass, they'd rather fight a well rounded subclass with good abilities and a good super. Like the hunters. Fine let's do it. Seriously if that's the design philosophy you prefer than let's go for it. But you can't just stop half way through, you can't destroy the super and make everything else also shitty. "Okay you pissy Titan, after you have a nap and calm down maybe you can enlighten us with some of your "genius" 😒" - says everyone who's going to reply to me. Well -blam!- you guys I'm already 3 steps ahead. Simplest, easiest, most fun way to buff the neutral game: you ready? Let's do it. Throwing hammer as the melee. Less damage than a precision throwing knife and moves slower Than a throwing knife. Works with all the current melee modifiers. You can use models already in the game. Bam. Done. My only problem with pre-nerf sunbreaker is the fact that it didn't require aim and was extra forgiving.   • Just buff the blast radius of the hammers a bit and thats it. Right now you can throw a hammer right next to the enemy and it will only damage him a bit. Also increase the velocity of the hammers a bit since its very hard to hit someone in the air, and almost impossible to hit a blinking warlock/hunter

    • A throwing hammer as a Melee would be cool and add a bit of equality to the class Melees but I'm not sure that's enough. Main problem is hammer travel time. You could basically wiff every hammer if the opponent is using even the most basic of evasion moves. No other super is that easy to avoid. And the anvil noise announcing the super makes it that much easier to evade/counter.

      • How about we buff thermite grenade? Seeing has how if the gaurdian sits in it for all five bursts he'll still be alive. Simple buff would be to add DoT burn damage.

        • Keep doing what you are doing. Eventually the Hunter subclasses will get nerf. If they don't then you know who the Bungie game designers favors more. So keep it up, cause if every Titan main just deals with it then these whining Hunters will keep nerfing away.

            Every nerf that Bungie did to Sunbreakers impacted their effectiveness in a major way and made it a real challenge to even make it out alive from using your Super. According to Bungie their goals from the recent update (https://www.bungie.net/7_Destiny-Class-Tuning---December-Update/en/News/News?aid=14083) were: "Given all that, we arrive at these simple goals for Titans: Solar Titan -Give other players a glimmer of hope standing against a Solar Titan in PvP. -Bring down the average KDR so it's closer to the ideal (1.0) -Encourage taking alternate paths through the Node tree." Well, just to address their first point, players already had a chance of taking out a Sunbreaker, it just took smart tactics and/or some good teamwork. In it's current state I would said that the majority of players stand a very good chance of killing a Sunbreaker. The nerfs to damage resistance, hammer tracking/blast radius, and healing ability severely impacted their ability to survive. By reducing the effectiveness of hammers they limited their killing potential at range. Having that bit of forgiveness in the hammer throw was important because taking the time to calibrate each throw due to travel time and trajectory really exposes you to ranged attack. It's not like firing a rocket with Grenades and Horseshoes and very easy to miss. Reducing the damage resistance so that snipers can one-shot gives them the advantage at range. And with the Super telegraphed, it's easy to just find good position and get first strike. It also makes Sunbreaker much more vulnerable to multiple targets before you can adjust your hammer throws and take opponents out. The limited healing factor of Cauterize further reduces your ability to survive when facing multiple opponents. So not only is it harder to land the hammers to heal but you're only going to realistically get one shot at healing before coordinated focus fire takes you down. Perhaps this was a push to make Scorched Earth and Fire Keeper more appealing. Factor in the current popularity and effectiveness of sniper and scout rifles, and the Sunbreaker's ranged Super is at a distinct disadvantage. Hammers are less forgiving, lower frequency of healing from Cauterize, and damage resistance brought in line with other Supers tilts the odds of winning an encounter with a Sunbreaker much more in favor of the opposing team. Btw, I think Sunbreaker's neutral game is very good. I ran Armamentarium and Simmering Flames for a long period of Iron Banner and was consistently scoring 20+ kills without ever using my Super in any of the games. Most of the time I'm running Defender in a strictly supportive role.

                • Everything about the Sunbreaker was just fine except for the over the top defense buff the Titan got while in their super, which in turn made everything else about the Sunbreaker seem "OP" because it was undoubtedly difficult to shut one down. All they had to do was adjust the defense the Titan got and that was all. Doesn't matter how "awesome" the abilities are if you can kill them just as fast as you can kill anyone else while in their super.

                • Hell yeah. Might I add that while all the pussification was happening and people who take this shit way too seriously were whining and bitching, the END result was yet another weapon(titan subclass specifically) was nerfed in pve as well. This happens every god damn time. John Weisnewski needs to go. They CAN separate pve/pvp but it's time consuming so they don't. Thanks. Oh, and i suck at pvp, don't play much, but i can say that hammer of sol was nerfed too hard for even pvp. Just a liiiiiiiiiiiitle too much.

                              • I actually wish the melee hammer gets implemented. That seems like a great way to get sunbreaker back in the game. And there are a few other things I wish to change about sunbreaker. 1) For thermal vent, remove the extra damage, and make a guaranteed sunspot. This would go great with the Hammer melee. 2) Increase the explosion radius for HoS a pinch. Before the patch, you could get consistent kills, maybe a bit too much. But now, even if I get a direct hit, it deals little to no damage. This may be due in part to the grenades and horseshoe perk on the hammers, and they explode much earlier than it should. So either fix the explosion radius, or fix the horseshoe 3) Make Stoke the forge be any sunstrike kill, not just the punch itself, since the main perk of sunstrike is the DoT. 4) and finally, make more exotic armour for the sunbreaker, he only has ONE exotic armor for himself, bungie pls. That is all.

                                      • First of all, this is the first post I've seen that acknowledges the trade off for HoS. Like u said, strong in super, weak out of super. So, kudos. Second, you have to be the first person who's suggestion wasn't undoing the stat changes. I think this is a genuinely good idea (although changing back some of the stats would still be good). So far, hunters have two throwable melees, throwing knives and smoke grenade. So, why not give another class one, like Titans. Warlocks don't need it anyway, just look at their melee range for stormcaller
