ORIGINAL POST-
Hello all. I thought I would share how much Destiny has impacted my life and it might not be in the way you expect. My name is Ian, I am physically disabled with Cerebral Palsy (CP). My physical abilities generally have no impact on my gaming experiences in general, expect for one aspect: voice communication. For those of you don't know, CP is a condition that relates to the brain not receiving proper signals from certain parts of the body It mostly affects motor skills and speech. I have a stutter, which usually occurs when I get excited, nervous, anxious, ect. Naturally, video games fill me with happiness and therefore excitement, causing my stutter to act up on a more regular basis. In the past, I played with my microphone unplugged in order to avoid unwanted harassment from people that have nothing better to do. However, due to Destiny's Raids and their nature communication is essential. This forced me to take a big leap as far as how I play. Although it was difficult at first to get used to it, now I find myself speaking more frequently in game. I have made a few friends that have grown accustomed to how I speak, so we group up together and raid! This also extends to my social life outside of Destiny as I am more keen on participating in my college classes and presenting my work, contributing my opinion and thoughts. I would like to thank Bungie for unknowingly and indirectly bettering my life with the Raids and the teamwork associated with them. It has pushed be to become the person I want to be, that was so hesitant just a few months ago. Thank you.
Ian
Edit: WOW!!!! I am truly overwhelmed by the support of the community. It has truly move me, My goal is to impact as many people positively as possible and it makes me so happy that many of you have a positive take away from this, some of you also shared your own experiences. I don't know what to say, I am truly humbled. Thank you all once again.
UPDATE 10-22-15
Hello All,
I wanted to give you all an update on my life since you all supported me the first time. I have been recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer which the doctors said the type I have is incurable. I am going to be on chemo the rest of my life unless a miracle happens. Because of chemotherapy, I become fatigued often, so I don't have much time to play let alone find a team. I honestly don't know what the future holds. What I'm trying to say is, be kind to one another, you never know how one's life will change. Thank you all.
Ian

Ian, you're an inspiration. Your positive attitude is contagious, and your note made my day. Thank you for writing it, and for reminding people that individuals with CP are physically handicapped, not mentally handicapped as many believe the speech impediment normally indicates. Have an awesome day brother, see you in space!
