ORIGINAL POST-
Hello all. I thought I would share how much Destiny has impacted my life and it might not be in the way you expect. My name is Ian, I am physically disabled with Cerebral Palsy (CP). My physical abilities generally have no impact on my gaming experiences in general, expect for one aspect: voice communication. For those of you don't know, CP is a condition that relates to the brain not receiving proper signals from certain parts of the body It mostly affects motor skills and speech. I have a stutter, which usually occurs when I get excited, nervous, anxious, ect. Naturally, video games fill me with happiness and therefore excitement, causing my stutter to act up on a more regular basis. In the past, I played with my microphone unplugged in order to avoid unwanted harassment from people that have nothing better to do. However, due to Destiny's Raids and their nature communication is essential. This forced me to take a big leap as far as how I play. Although it was difficult at first to get used to it, now I find myself speaking more frequently in game. I have made a few friends that have grown accustomed to how I speak, so we group up together and raid! This also extends to my social life outside of Destiny as I am more keen on participating in my college classes and presenting my work, contributing my opinion and thoughts. I would like to thank Bungie for unknowingly and indirectly bettering my life with the Raids and the teamwork associated with them. It has pushed be to become the person I want to be, that was so hesitant just a few months ago. Thank you.
Ian
Edit: WOW!!!! I am truly overwhelmed by the support of the community. It has truly move me, My goal is to impact as many people positively as possible and it makes me so happy that many of you have a positive take away from this, some of you also shared your own experiences. I don't know what to say, I am truly humbled. Thank you all once again.
UPDATE 10-22-15
Hello All,
I wanted to give you all an update on my life since you all supported me the first time. I have been recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer which the doctors said the type I have is incurable. I am going to be on chemo the rest of my life unless a miracle happens. Because of chemotherapy, I become fatigued often, so I don't have much time to play let alone find a team. I honestly don't know what the future holds. What I'm trying to say is, be kind to one another, you never know how one's life will change. Thank you all.
Ian

In Destiny terms, love the current version before it is patched.

This truly inspired me, I loved reading how destiny has given you the confidence to let your voice be heard, you have so much support from this awesome community!
-
That's great! I don't have CP, but I know how you feel. I am extremely shy in real life, never had friends on PSN until Destiny. I'm more active in the community, and enjoy playing with people.

Editado por SINISTERxSKILLZ: 2/12/2015 3:39:21 AMThat's awesome. I hope things will continue to improve for you. I hope people wasn't giving you hell because of that because if they were, that's sick. Period. People are so quick to attack others who are different. My older brother is mentally retarded and when he was a senior in high school, I was a freshman. My brother had to go to special education classes because of his disability. I couldn't begin to describe how other kids treated him and his classmates just because they were different. I actually got into a couple of fights with people because of it. They can't help how they are and neither can you. Keep your head up and enjoy the game. If someone can't understand your situation, then you are better off without them. I hope for the best for you!

To this day I still get messages on my PSN, Mostly positive, thank you very much.

8 RespuestasDestiny did things to me as well. I was touched between my legs late nigh (i swear it wasn't my dad) and i wasted 600+ hours on a game that i did THE EXACT SAME SHIT EVERY GOD DAMN DAY FOR MONTHS. No more, done with this pos and not coming back even if they add content i wanted since day one (quality horde mode). Destiny is fully rejected from my blood and it feels great. Will only visit this site to annoying Desticles lolz.

68 RespuestasThe honor is all ours. Players like you (and all of you) are helping us to make Destiny the game we want it to be. Thanks for rising to the challenge.

I don't know if you're just a troll (like a lot here) but good motivational story provided it's true.

Someone give this man a fate of all fools

Gj man keep it up I love the wonderful experiences people can get from social games

Kudos to you for taking your disability and showing it who the real boss is! The closest I ever got to knowing someone with your condition was Walt Jr on Breaking Bad. He was a great guy. He struggled with his life (even stuttered just like yourself) but he made something out of it. It sounds like you are doing the exact same thing! And dont ever let people get to you. If someone makes fun of you, know that they are the loser in life, not you. They have to have something majorly wrong with them to make fun of someone for something said person cant even help. I love to bust balls, and do it regularly... But there is a difference between having fun with someone, and straight up insulting them. Dont let the man get you down. Make something of yourself, with your disability, and then laugh at the ones who made fun of you who went nowhere in life!

3 RespuestasDestiny impacted my life too....I wasted almost 400 hours of my life.

Keep playing this game is one of the best titles in the past couple years

Just giving your fireteam members a heads up about anything that might impact communications is always a good idea. I think most people will be quite understanding. Anyway it's great that communicating via games also helps you outside of Destiny :)

Hek ya mang. This is the primary reason I play destiny, the positive nature of the community.

Great post brother. Genuine respect for being a more positive person than most able bodied people. It would be a honour if you ever hit me up for a destiny session man, that's if you can understand me.......I'm Australian! Peace bro.
-
Thank you for moving me. We have a regular in our group who never switches on their mic and I have always defended and completely respected his right to do that. It would be an honour if you ever want to run with us.

You are an inspiration.
