BUNGIE DOESN'T CONTROL XUR

I see a LOT of people hating on Bungie because of what Xur sells. Despite what people say, Xur is completely RNG. People may counter argue with "But what about Christmas, when they extended his stay?" Yes, Bungie CAN control Xur. He is a program, nothing more, but they chose to leave him as RNG. Just saying, take a chill pill people. I get your rage and want for that elusive Exotic, but don't throw everything at Bungie. Except the lack of vault space and constant Iron Banner. That is BS. Edit: I would like to respond to some of the calm, level headed people and even amend some stuff, however, I am about to take my finals, so I will reply when I get home and can type on an actual computer and not my phone.

    • It's either picked or heavily weighted RNG. And I'm sure if something popped that they didn't want out, they'd change it. Bungie is a lot more conniving than you think

      • Xur is not RNG. IB was sold to get people through CE HM. Just the fact that DeeJ commented on it was enough to let me know that it isnt. They made sure everyone knew as well. He has never spoken about another item being sold by Xur to my recollection. Why talk ab out IB? Why make sure everyone knew it was out?

          • If they don't control him then they SHOULD. Every week except one since gun upgrades have been available have we seen the Gjallerhorn upgrade... Im pretty sure we dont need it 4 weeks in a row. I upgraded mine the first week. It would be nice to upgrade other weapons that I may have missed or didn't have enough for that week.

You are incorrect Bungie does control Xur. Do you think Xur put the exotics in the loot table himself? Like any other program, there is probably a manual override that they can use at any time they see fit.

the night before Xur sold the last word for the first time, guess what deej shared on his twitter ? a pic of the last word ! also, did you forget that bungie made this game ? are you that dense ? to say that they dont control Xur is beyond any amount of comprehension.

            • Short of it: If Xur is random, it was carried out poorly, as is most of the RNG in this. If not, then there is little sense to what happens. Xur is a bit confusing. There are theories that he is RNG, but. I remember reading where someone on a PS changed the date to a week earlier. What he sold was there, but you could not buy it. They tried another week earlier, and the same. What this suggests is that there is a database stored on the server that has a record of what he sold. We know Bungie is keeping data on who does what, with what, etc., so I see no reason why they wouldn't keep who bought what (see the update for an example, as they know how many coins were used, etc.). Here's the strange thing, I seem to remember that the person went a year back, before the game existed and he had a set of things to buy. They went back further and the items changed. What this leads me to think is IF this is RNG, it is date based. What is puzzling is that I would assume this is on the server side, so we all see the same gear, yet, why would it generate for a year or more ago. I have programmed things with random number generation. Generally, you need to seed it with something. Most use the real time clock as in Unix time, there can never be two of the same values (that I am aware of). For example, today at 2 am would be: 1421978400 What I am thinking is that the first two digits are used to seed what is sold in slot 1, second two, slot 2, etc. However, if this is the case, the server needs to be the one to roll the numbers, not the console. This leads me to what my theory is: do they use part of this date code to pick the inventory number of a specific item? 142197 is just the date portion for today. 139052 is for 1/24/2014 (as close as it would be for a year ago). If the system has this date, it generates what is supposed to be there. However, from what I read, you cannot get this to work going forward, meaning I can't set my consoles date to next week and have it work. My guess is that there is a logic step that requires the date requested to be less than or equal to today's date. Where this logic fails is when he sells the same things each week, except it depends upon how they have the random number carried out. Say the range is 0-10. One method is that each number can only picked once. Say the roll is 7. The next roll 7 is taken out, and if it comes up as 7 again, it re-rolls. There are other more complex ways to accomplish this, but this is the easiest. This method makes sure every number has a turn. The other method is more like the lotto: no values are eliminated. Again, the roll is a 7, except 7 is not eliminated. This does make it a bit more random, as there is a chance of getting the same value over and over again. This method can repeat. That said, with the amount of things to cycle through, it doesn't make sense that Sunbreakers or whatever it was got stuck for a few weeks in a row. What I am thinking is that the date sets the range of the RNG, the RNG then determines what is there. All of this said, presumably they can override it, if they care to do so. They can obviously do this as I have read about giving special items to certain people. Remember this is all based on math. Luck or skill has nothing to do with it, but bad programming does.

                • I also thought Xur was RNG for a long time and argued with people about it. But Xur is not RNG. Bungie chooses his loot each week. They want you to believe he is RNG due to all the hate mail they already get about his loot. And no I don't think the Sam Legacy guy is a Bungie employee. That guy is just a troll. Stop feeding that troll.

                  • I'd say it's a mix of both. Suros and TLW have a bad habit of showing up with Xur shortly before iron banner. Mostly RNG with some selective input. Some items may be removed from RNG or given lower chances. Other possibilities are that a small group of Bungie employees are the nine.

                  • Wow...I can't believe after many obvious controls Bungie have chosen xûr to come up with, people like the OP still believe xûr is RNG based. You can't be that naive. Xûr full inventory is completely managed by Bungie every week...how they sit to arrange it, it's in discussion if you like but the fact that they control xûr inventory and what he brings out every weekend it's a fact. RNG is total different story and xûr it's not RNG based. Like I always say, if people want to believe xûr is RNG so be it...to each their own. But seriously people you can't be that naive. Just a small FYI, only Hardlight, Thunderlord and universal remote have yet to be sold...after just about over 4 months into the game really? What a coincidence uh....RNG my as* If it was RNG based than many other weapons wouldn't been sold yet and more repeated weapons would've been sold too. What a coincidence that xûr brings out certain things when they release a patch and so on...like last week xûr sold helmets specifically...maybe so many would become 32s and get a chance to play hard mode and also sold ice breaker so everyone had a chance to kill majors or ultra hive knights and wizards with more ease. That's just an example of many coincidence things that have happened since launch. Bungie knew before game released Gjallarhorn is a boss killer and that's why they sold it 2 week when not many gamers had enough coins since the game was brand new. Now deej comes up saying on the updates he makes saying, "we know you guys what Gjallarhorn"...in a way kinda like telling us, "we know don't bother us with that and we will soon or eventually have xûr sell Gjallarhorn...can you stop please?" Like I said you can't be that naive. Bungie picks what xûr is going to sell every week...period. No Land Beyond for this week...I can just laugh because what good would it bring me to cry? Exactly...no good. So I'll just laugh. Thank you Bungie for being so considered with us your community.

                    • Its really making me lose hope of some people who can not understand something as simplistic as this. As you said, they can tap in, but they choose not to, to keep the magic going. Extending his stay was a necessity and an emergency situation and Bungie definitely made the right decision by doing so and tweaking Xur for that week only and let him return to his regular schedule afterwards.
