I am new to this board, and this game (since Christmas), so feel free to flame, I really don't mind. Sitting here on lunch so I figured I would introduce myself and give a short story about my experience last night. So everyone can laugh at me. Its ok, my son thinks its hilarious. He is a douchbag.
A little background: I'm old. 37. Probably too old to be playing Xbox. I used to be a WOW junkie and thoroughly enjoy video games in general. I have kids, lots of them. My oldest son spends all his free time on xbox. He is 18, in college, and has a good job. He has a ps4 and I bought him an xbox for Christmas. My wife and him seen how jealous I was so they were cool and turned around and bought me one. I bought a few games but made the mistake of starting with destiny. It is the only game I have played. I can't get off the damn thing. I work pretty much 6 days a week so my available game time is limited. I have a great wife, she is very understanding, and doesn't freak when I get home from work and start playing. Sometimes I can't get on until 9 or 10 because of responsiblilites, a 3 yr old, etc. So my playing usually extends well after midnight when I can. Needless to say, because of my schedule, and other time restraints, its taking me forever to level and grind. I have 1 character so far. A lvl 26 hunter. After a crap ton of grinding, bounties, strikes, etc. My son helps me on a lot of them to help me do the tougher ones for better rewards (although he always gets the drops, freaking rng) I finally got to a point where I felt like I was making some progress. My FWC is 2 so I am close to being able to get a new Scout rifle at 3 and I have 75% of the marks. My vanguard is now 2 1/2, I saved enough marks to buy 2 armor pieces. I bought the legs and upgraded them. I just was waiting to get to 3 so I can get the commendation to get the chest piece. Enough strange coins to get a helm from Xur and have leftovers when he comes. Getting ready to do the last Eris quest in the line to get the Guantlets. I literally just finished fully upgrading my Murmur from Eris, and my Harms way Machine gun drop (cost me all my ascendants). I only have a rare scout rifle but its leveled all the way up. SO this has taken forever...
Last night, after the kids were in bed (except for my 18yr old), after a 12hr day at work and a quick meal and shower I was ready to go kill Urzok for Eris. I teamed up with my son and had to turn in a bunch of bounties first so I put my unleveled weapons up for the upgrade experience points. We got to earth and scooter'd over to skywatch and lucky me there was the public event with Urzok! At that particular moment, the 3 yr old decided to wake up. She ran out to me screaming and crying. She wanted milk in her cup (my wife was on the treadmill) Now I'm freaking! Urzok just dropped down, I'm not ready, she threw her cup at me and hit me in the face, knocked my glasses off and my headset is now around my neck. She is pulling on me screaming and I need to kill Urzok. At this point I am sweating and freaking pretty bad. Its impossible to explain to a half asleep 3 yr old girl that Daddy has been looking for this guy forever and he needs his legendary guantlets. SO I tried to fight through the barrage of crys and pulls. I just need 30 seconds!! SHIT! I didn't switch my guns back! SO somehow in the madness I didn't switch em, I shard'd em! My fully leveled Murmur and Harms Way, and my fully leveled fav scout rifle. At that point I realized it Threw a nade at Urzok, threw my controller down, and got the milk. I walked to my sons room, borderline suicidal and told him I quit and why. He proceeded to laugh hysterically. Because he is a douchbag. Later he gave me some sympathy but it was too little too late. That's it I'm starting Dragons age........until..... this morning I woke up and all I could think about was how I could get out of this. Planning on how to use the strange coins, rethinking and planning how to get the armor I need to level and get a good weapon (I'm too low to run Raids for drops, I think? plus I have know idea who would let me on a team) I am even thinking of starting another Character to get another MurMur. Now I am scanning websites to look at vanguard weapons, Joining a forum, I must be crazy............

Wow, father of the year. Such a douchebag
-
Well. I'm a father I have a 7 year old daughter and all I can say is if you put some stupid game before you're child then you don't deserve to be a parent. I hope your little girl breaks your shitbox and then you will learn about priorities. Idiot.

Urzok comes in skywatch at... Every. Single. Public. Event. DestinyPublicEvents.com Basically you can have an appointment with Urzok. Give your kid the milk and get urzok 12 minutes later next time dad.

To bad your on Xbox one. Feel bad for you, would offer to do the entire raid for you for gear. xD
-
You can do VoG on normal at 26

Xbox One, can run you through Crota.

Im the parent of a 2 year old toddler so I've definetly been in your position. It can be annoying, but what I can't wrap my head around is that you actually questioned yourself as what to do instead of taking care of the most important thing in your life. I feel bad for that 3 year old that actually had to climb up on you kicking and screaming because you were to -blam!-ing lazy to get him/her a drink of milk. That aside, You didn't do what even veteran players haven't done before. We've all dismantled something we didn't intend to. Your case is minor. At 26 you should be doing the VoG raid for materials and exotics. I'd recommend starting another hunter and then another. 3 hunters and rank them up (that alone will yield some cool items.) then keep rotating armor and doing VoG 3 times a week. You'll get back in notime, and murmur isn't even that good bro..

2 RespuestasEditado por Strand the Man: 1/16/2015 2:37:33 PMCan't believe I read that wall...but here's my advice: 1. The only thing special about Murmur is the fact you can swap between arc and solar without losing a little ammo...in other words it's a lazy-man's gun. Other than that, it sounds lame and you can find much better. 2. If you really want another, make another character and have your son power level you...or just have him do it all. If he won't, kick him out of the house. 3. You're 37...have an 18 year old son...a 3 year old daughter...and I'm guessing a few others in between. Take some time off raiding those vaginas so you can raid in Destiny.

2 RespuestasI DIED at "Daddy has been looking for this guy forever". It's never pretty when reality and Destiny collide. Just last night I was in the VoG, at the confluxes. I hear my GF crying. It was one of those obnoxious heaving cries. I assumed someone was dead. Then the battle in my mind began. We were already down a team member. Can my partner solo the right side? We had already wiped once because he died, starting a snowball effect. I couldn't check on my GF, surely we'd wipe. But what kind of BF would choose the VoG over consoling his GF? As soon as legions were summoned, I went to the "hidey-hole" and sent her a text from 30 feet away. LOL. She was watching a gaddamn movie and something sad happened!

This story is me... Totally feel the the pain of "sleeping" 3 yr Olds. (I know wait to start a raid until he's been asleep for at least an hour). I've seen people get sh&* for having 2 of the same character but I feel like that's definitely the way to do it. 2x chances on loot and you spend more time playing the stuff you want to play....plus you'll get that second murmur.
-
Hey you seem like a good guy (also, not too old to be playing). I am a family man myself an am usually up later at night due to the same restraints and responsibilities as you, and My group is pretty cool and we power level people up and will take low levels into raids as we can make up for any inexperience. Send me a message on Xbox gt is same. I will be more then Happy to help you get new guns. Maybe even power level a character.

This is my favorite post on the forum. Thank you for having a life outside of Destiny. And keep plugging along! Makes me wish I was on XB1...
-
well thanks for the warning about the wall i guess.

I'll run you through the raid, I love teaching people the mechanics. Gt: ConnorGodshall

3 RespuestasAdd me man, 32 years here with a 2 year old, I have more time to play then you (disabled vet) but my main hours are at night and I feel your pain, I've done silly things like that before when my kid has woke up and I was in a hurry. I'd love to run bounties and even help with VoG so you start nailing light levels. Anything you need, I'm down. Don't quit! You'll get to a point where you'll have so much armor/weapons you won't know what to do with them. Hell I'll even run you through night falls/weeklys. dmgpursec <--
