The biggest reason (to me) why cheesing is a bad thing.

With all of the gear people got that they didn't earn, there is one thing no one payed attention to. Something that actually matters, and it happened to me when I was a noob. How many cheesers have gotten in a fireteam with a new player and told them to cheese? I remember this was the case for me early on shortly after VoG was released. I was a noob, and I had never done the vault before. For the longest time I had no idea that the cheesing was not the correct way to beat the vault, and when I found out that it wasn't I was disappointed because I never truly experienced the vault as it was meant to be. All of these new players being taught to cheese and using it as a crutch are being deprived of a good experience in the game, as I was, and I feel it is a legitimate issue. Go ahead and comment your thoughts in a mature way. We don't need any trolls in this forum, and anyone wanting to start a flame war will be muted instantly with no warning. • I cheesed both raids, but I also took it upon myself to learn it legit too so when it was fixed I didn't have trouble with it.

        • I am so thankful that both my first VoG run and Crota's end run were done %100 legit because I was with a badass crew that just wanted to have fun and a challenge at the same time. Great memories!

        • Actually they recently had a breakthrough in technology, it's this special website known as YouTube. I need to do more research about how it works but I have heard that with just a few key words you can find 50 videos about how to do the raid legit!

        • I don't mind cheesing. I've done it myself a few times. However, I made sure to do the entire raid legit before I attempted it. I like doing it the legit way more. What I do mind is when I see something like I saw yesterday. I invited people to help me finish off Crota. It was a pretty solid looking group. We had one level 32, so I appointed him as the sword guy. He completely bombed it, and then decided to tell me that he had never beaten Crota legit before, and asked me how to do it. I had never booted someone from my fireteam that fast before.

                • I Sherpa'ed a group through yesterday where I was 32 with all 31s and a 30 who never did the bridge or crota legit. Interestingly enough I had never used the sword during the crota fight so it was kind of a learning experience for me too. We were able to get through in maybe an hour an a half with only 4 or 5 wipes throughout. Basically as long as someone can step up and be a leader you can get through if people just listen. I think nightfalls are more demanding skill wise than normal mode crota. It's just the teamwork/communication that makes it challenging. I really don't care if people cheese, I wish bungie would fix the game so people didn't WANT to cheese rather than waste all the hours fixing one hole and creating a new one (people have already cheesed just about everything except crota since the patch).

                  • the way I see is I scratch your back to help you level now and you will help me later and most people usually do. I don't like to carry people but more than likely if you got the game on Christmas or early this year your probably not really ready for anything, I mean I just power leveled a couple of new entrees in my clan and now they are on the hunt for light armor. when it comes to cheesing its important to learn it the right way first and then after you have got that down I don't condone cheesing if your going full cheese your not going to know how to do It at all there will always be cheesing no matter what people as or do as a preventive. its the fact that people are angry at cheese people to the extent they are that surprises me the most

                  • I think the worst part is not the fact that they cheese, but their skill in doing it legit (mostly their attitude towards this). To put it in context: If someone said to me "look guys, I've only done this by cheesing, now I have to do it legit, could you please just give me a little extra help so I can get used to it?" This would be no problem for me, no problem at all. However what most people say: "Are we cheesing this part? No? Oh ok, it's easy anyway." >Guardian down "Game glitched out, stupid bungie can't make a raid that works" >Wipe >Guardian down "For -blam!-s sake why am I getting killed from behind. You have to kill the thralls behind me." >Wipe >Guardian down "For -blam!-s sake guys, you're all useless. I'm going to find a good team so we can beat this easily" >Player has left your fireteam "So are 5 manning this then? We have a couple of gjallahorns, his shield should go down no problem" >Crota is beaten.

                    • clearing the raid with a fast cheese is more enjoyable than wiping for hours and at some point people rage quit and party disbands without any reward , then back to square one spamming forums trying to find a new party

                      • I can definitely see what your saying. I don't mind cheesing the raids, but only after I've learned the legit way to do it. Eventually Bungie will patch the cheeses, and it's nice to know how to do it the right way when that happens. That being said, I try not to concern myself too much with how other people play the game, as long as it doesn't directly affect me. To each their own.

I have done it both ways. I have a group that I do it with regularly and we don't cheese, when I PUG then usually I end up cheesing. I was thinking about this over the weekend and came to the conclusion that cheesing is not a victimless crime, and it does have a major (very obvious) impact on the community. Devs are now spending a lot of their time trying to patch/fix these cheeses, when they could be addressing issues the community is concerned with. What would happen if the Devs weren't focused on patching cheeses. - would we have a better inventory system (some define that as a bigger vault)? - would there be more unique missions/bounty's? - would we have a new queen's wrath event? I know the arguement that will rise from this. They should have done it right in the first place, blah blah. What do cheesing supporters say when they defend it? - People will always cheat - We are doing it because we can (the same response LizardSquad gave for the DDoS attacks) What do you think? i dont know for sure if there would be a difference in content, but i do know if the devs weren't making this a priority they would be able to focus on thing the community wanted.

                          • The problem with cheesing is that everyone has their own definition. On the Guardians of Destiny podcast they were arguing about the Valus T'auruc "cheese" where you get in the overhead light. Then someone brought up the idea of hiding behind boxes as cheesing but not all agreed. My definition is that if I can do something like it in real life then it's not cheesing, so hiding behind boxes and getting into overhead lights isn't cheesing - it's a survival strategy. Disconnecting your connection so that Crota stays down isn't anything like real life so it's not cheesing, it's cheating - using a known bug to cause the game to work in an unintended fashion. The loot cave was cheesing because it was using an unintended flaw in the cave's spawn timing and AI programming. The proper programming should have included a change to the location of the spawn cave and the number and level of enemies if people were exploiting the spawning. I think it would have been great if using the loot cave for more than 5 minutes per hour caused a "enemy moving against each other" type of event but directed at the player and from a random spawn location.

                            • I have an issue with how much is being defined as cheesing, for example yes unplugging your console to kill crota, I definitely agree with but for example I don't agree that shooting the nexus from the platform where you first enter the boss battle is cheesing. Are you not at that point simply picking and using the terrain that was created by the game designers to your advantage? To me that's not cheesing - that's simply a tactics.

                              • If they forked over the price of the game and the cost of the dlc, they all earned what they have no matter how they got it. They have the right to play their own way. It's a damn video game. You act like it's rank in the military or something. Just because you chose to get it a different way doesn't mean u earned it more than anyone else, it just means u have more free time. Grow up

                                • I have a question for you and anyone else that is anti-cheese and who say their way of playing is the "right" way. Have you ever used walkthroughs and/or videos before you attempted something or when you were stuck and couldn't figure something out? If the answer is yes then you are the ultimate cheater. No game maker ever intended for players to know exactly how to do everything before they ever attempted it. So unless you are one of the day one raiders that actually spent hours wiping to figure out how it works, you are no better than anyone else that's used an exploit or glitch. So by your own admission in a reply to another post, you went online to learn how to do the VoG legitimately. This is so hypocritical. You cheated to learn how to do it as the dev's intended by watching a video. Until you stop reading walkthroughs and watching videos to learn the mechanics, you are no better than the people you whine about.
