Sir, this post was not well written, I see no paragraphs. Where's the hook? The thesis statement is missing! No transitions either? Terribly written essay! 0/10

3 RespuestasEditado por Blyndwolf: 1/8/2015 4:40:50 PMI only correct people when their spelling, grammar, or punctuation is so poor that I literally cannot understand what they are saying. Having said that, spelling, punctuation, and grammar attempt ensure that when we are communicating through the written word, we accurately convey the thoughts, asides, and tones that we would be using in spoken word. If anyone really does troll the forums trying to find grammatical mistakes, then they have a problem and need to get a life. Those who correct grammar or spelling incidentally to participating in a conversation aren't the problem, and in my opinion, should be applauded (if they do it in a respectful manner).

1 RespuestaThere are many good statements in this thread. A message to the grammar police: Did you know that the definition of 'literally' has been changed in order to be more in line with it's common usage? It can correctly be used as a point of emphasis now.

We the grammar police are the last line of defense that protect you from the illiterate scourge of the internet. Without us you wouldn't even be reading English or even words. You would probably be deciphering neo-hieroglyphics.

7 RespuestasEditado por Space Magic: 1/8/2015 4:43:00 PMSometimes people spell things wrong, and they think that that's the way it's supposed to be spelled. Our job is to improve their grammar so that they won't be misspelling things on important documents later in life and make an ass of themselves.

2 RespuestasI always just put it down to trolls. This place is drowning in them. Theres almost as many as on youtube.

11 RespuestasSometimes it's out of general concern. If you write in your own life like some people type in these forums, usually grammatically speaking, you will be looked at like a joke. If you use the word board to describe the feeling of having nothing to do instead of bored then that's something that should be corrected before you make an ass out of yourself in your real life. It's usually not hard to tell when someone is making mistakes on purpose and when they aren't.

3 RespuestasMany posts have SOME sort of grammatical error, but their opinion shows some level of analysis. The grammar, as well as the sentence structure, is done well enough that any reasonable person can understand their statement without any additional effort. I will point out spelling and/or grammar errors when one of the following has occurred: - Wall of text This is just supremely lazy, as well as inconsiderate to the reader - Person creates a truly uninformed opinion or is just being rude Just using their poor grammar to attack the person - Person creates a post in such a way that it is extremely difficult to understand what they said (and English isn't their 2nd language) I get how it can be annoying for grammar police to harp on you. May I ask though, do you think the person getting their grammar attacked bothered to proof read what they posted before posting it? If they couldn't be bothered to even try, then I can't feel too sorry for them if they start getting slammed on for making simple and easy to correct mistakes.

1 RespuestaWe're judged by how we present ourselves. If someone is unwilling to put the minimal effort necessary to communicate well we often assume(and rightly so) so that they have nothing of value to offer. There are times when this isn't the case but those are the exceptions, not the rule. Sadly, most people are fine with merely being "average" and have no interest in trying to be anything more.

1 RespuestaNo one "looks" for mistakes. But, rather, when someone comes into the forum screaming and yelling about how they think they got screwed, and all you see is incorrect spelling, it can make a paragraph hard to read. It could also make people misunderstand what it is you're actually saying. Punctuation is very critical when communicating in written word. That is a true fact.
