I just need to get this off my chest...
Why is it that whenever a ship exits "slip space" it seems like the ship does a sort of "air-brake" maneuver and slows down? It has always irritated me for some reason.

10 RespuestasWhat i hate is that when youre hovering over mars and go back to the tower, the ship moves AWAY from the sun :P

Disengaging the jump drive to reenter normal space? Venting exhausts? Literally braking? Maybe the emergence into normal space doesn't slow you down. Take your pick :)

Relativity effects.

13 RespuestasEditado por Tremolo: 1/7/2015 7:20:40 PMThis is a game when you f*cking channel tangible light into what are basically super powers, with crazy ass supernatural factors and insane, nerdy, awesome, extremely far fetched weapon, armor, and ability perks. You can literally channel the power of the motherf*cking sun and throw little balls of solar power from your hands and throw a massive ball of void energy taken from the power of an exploding star at your enemies, motherf*cker. And you question the physics of why a starship brakes a little bit when it comes out of warp speed? You f*cking serious bro?! THAT'S what you question in this game?! SMH... By the way...
It's because when you are in the wormhole thing you are going at light speed. When you come out, you slow down significantly to what you can call normal speed. That's why you see an "air break" like action occurring. Use your head, seriously.
Dude. We were resurrected from the dead in two seconds flat by laser beam from a floating machine that came from another floating machine. The bigger floating machine also made Mercury and Venus not only not giant hellish infernos, but inhabitable, yet you're asking about the ship physics in space?
IT'S A GAME
3 RespuestasEditado por Taggin T: 1/9/2015 4:35:06 PMBecause if it didn't air brake and stop, the space ship would keep going, crash into the side of your tv, creating a massive explosion, incinerating your mothers basement while also killing you and all your beloved video games. This will in turn force your poor single mother to have to find a 3rd or maybe 4th job to cover for the damages you created, of course shes already used to cleaning up after your mistakes so this isnt going to be anything new for her... Shortly after the damages are covered, your mother can finally relax and think about herself for once because she wont have to pay for your life expenses while you do nothing but eat, sleep, shit and play destiny in the basement. Cheers Fellow Guardian. Rest easy knowing you no longer are a burden. Also if you have a Gjallarhorn feel free to give it to me for safe keeping before you take the air brakes off your ship.

3 RespuestasNormally you have to slow down to avoid smashing into your destination. Sounds far fetched but it's true man!

4 RespuestasWell...how about this. Are we shown flying in space during our travel from point A to point B? If so...how is there fire coming from our exhaust...

Editado por Solaris Phoenix: 1/9/2015 4:37:29 PMI can only guess that slipspace 'space' is different to physical space and hence, has different effects on the ship. There's theory that space isn't empty as such, but actually behaves more like a liquid. I haven't read about that theory for a long time though, so it could well be outdated. My other explanation would be that the ship requires two kinds of engines, one for NLS, which you had to get early in the story to achieve interplanetary travel, and more regular engines akin to jets. It's possible that disengaging the NLS drive while in flight and without gentle deceleration creates course instability that has to be corrected upon exiting the slipstream. It may also be a preemptive course change at a safe distance in order to avoid colliding with objects in high orbit.

It's an anticipation in the animation to help tell the viewer that you're about to load into the level.

I know right??? Especially the size of a cabal cock shouldn't it be smaller than that??

2 RespuestasThe "air-brake" is there to prevent collisions....in my opinion. See, even when ships in the movies come out of hyper space, they slow down immediately, why, because if here is something on the other side that was unforeseen.....like a big ass planet or star, the ship and the people inside don't hurl down to their death or potentially hit another ship. Anyways, I am a SyFy freak and have seen many...many movies where this same tactic is used, though it does look a little different in every movie.

Perhaps our ships are outfitted with a magnetic propulsion system that interacts with the electromagnetic fields of other planets so we can slow down out of hyperspeed.
-
1 RespuestaWhat makes me wonder is how does it brake? Shouldn't it have equally big thrusters at the front? The power used to break the motion can't be used to start it?

Editado por Syncopation: 1/7/2015 8:36:37 PMEdit: hahah nvm - I obviously didn't read the entire OP and just assumed you were asking the question I've seen others ask a million times about the orbit screen. Damn I'm an oblivious bastard. My bad.

Editado por iacchius: 1/7/2015 6:58:33 PMThere is absolutely nothing accurate about this game, you just have to suspend reality. It's a game. That being said, the part that always aggravates me (because it affects gameplay) is when your speeder gets launched in the air (hit a ramp or whatever) and you slow down. Even though you are clearly using a propulsion system that should not be affected by whether you are near the ground or not.

Thrusters like real spaceships maybe? Thats my best guess honestly.

It bothers me too haha. Doesn't make any sense in space
