Apparently no one ever played WoW

All I hear is people complaining about how the new DLC makes everything completely useless, you've obviously never played WoW. Raid gear in WoW is made useless by average gear after every expansion, even heroic raid drops can be beat by new quest reward. That's how endgame works. I don't see how people expect a game to progress when you want the level cap to stick to its original standard and weapons and armor to be their standard as well. Games change, weapons get better, and things become worthless, just be happy they made exotics upgradable(never happens in WoW) and that we're not paying for a monthly subscription to play Destiny. Edit: 100 comments in 30 minutes. Damn, you guys feel really strongly about this, and to those saying WoW is a bad comparison for FPS reason, I never played other MMOFPS's so I can't really give a valid opinion of those compared to destiny, but if you have please share in the comments.

  • I agree to a point but you got to remember, WoW didn't release an expansion 3 months after the game launched and increased the gear level. It took at least 2-3 years for a wow expansion. I'm not complaining but that's the general confusion and frustration felt by many who grinded VoG for the top gear only to find it near obsolete now the dlc is released.

  • Totally agree. I was never too big in to wow. The only complaint I have is newbies might skip the early raids if they join late. Idk how wow took care of that.

  • I feel that the biggest problem was that they completely made everything obsolete from the original game with the upgrades. I can only speak from the experience I had playing WoW and that was during WotLK. But from my understanding, you had to do Naxxramas and be geared to do Ulduar. Now after Ulduar came out with Trial of Champions. At this point we didn't have to do Naxx or Uld in order to do Trial of Champions. However, you had to be geared from ToC in order to do Ice Crown Citadel. That's just from my understanding when I played. Okay, back to Destiny, why did I mention that? Because I feel that they made Vault of Glass obsolete. Why would you need to do Vault of Glass if you didn't need the raid gear or the weapons? Understandable that you might want something else like the Vex Mytho or some fun drops (Which we haven't gotten enough of already?). However, by giving the Vanguard upgraded gear that can ultimately get you to 31 they've destroyed the need to even do Vault of Glass unless you do it for fun. So why go to Vault when you can get everything through the Vanguard? They should've kept all the Vanguard/Crucible gear the way it was originally and made players do Vault of Glass until they were geared. Once they were completely geared from Vault they can then move onto doing Corta's End. On another note, I thought it was stupid to allow people to do Corta's End right away. They should've had an attunement chain through the missions and the strike before even allowing access to the raid. Also, making the light level higher would've been a better idea. That is all.

Comparing WoW to Destiny is like comparing an LMG to a flintlock pistol. You just can't make a good comparison(WoW is the LMG by the way).

      • The difference here is the light lvl that leaves us stuck at a certain lvl. Borderlands fpsrpg lvls up your character. In BL2 you can use badass coins to increase an attribute like cri hits or max health. Weapons all do different amoutd of damage and shields can be bought with different stats. In Destiny our lvl is solely based upon armor. There is no sense of individuality as everyone will all be wearing the same raid gear for their hunter/warlock/titan. When i play an mmo or rpg i want my character to look different. And here we have our helmets on the majority of the time. In halo MC wore a helmet because it was ment for us to feel as if we were the character until later on when he got fleshed out. My point is, at the end of the day we are all still lvl 20's and we are only as good as the light lvl in our armor.

        • There was grinding in wow for gear upgrades for sure, but the levels weren't tied purely to gear, and there were ways of enchanting, gemming or upgrading that weren't finite resources at least for starters. I looked at this patch, I made the mistake of leveling up gear on my other characters, so due to a lack of shards I couldn't immediately hit 31, which would mean I would then take more and do less damage in the new raid. It's not insurmountable, but finding a group became difficult as people already were "lfg 31s only". Wow gear also didn't require its own leveling to upgrade, which is part of why people got so upset about exotic upgrades, etc. not only did they grind vog or crucible or other loot sources with very random chances for success, but they also then had to put many hours into making their new gear usable. All in all its not broken, but it's a quality of life thing. I remember when my thunderfury became obsolete after grinding for it, and I remember blues replaced epics in expansions, but this all feels hyper-condensed. There aren't enough avenues for loot (one raid tier, 2 modes, periodic high level pvp), and by only increasing the max light level by 2, artificially gating hard mode, and condensing this into a three month span it feels like what I get (hate to use the term earn) in game will be invalidated very soon.

          • First off I don't think anyone wants the level cap to stick but make the progression work. Don't grind for level 30 the. Give away level 31. This isn't cod we don't want things given away. If you can't find a team and grind the vog then go play cod or dragon age. What ticks me off is that the idea was grind the vog you'll need these items for the dlc and what do they do. They make it irrelevant for the normal mode. Make me want to play your crap raid that takes less than 4 hours to beat now. And can be done solo up to 50%.

          • My problem is not that my gear became outdated, my problem is that it was outdated 3 months after launch. I played Evercrack for 2.5 years and WoW for 3 I know of what i speak. I would not have minded things this much if BUNGiE had better communication with the player. Where are the detailed patch notes so we can see what's changed BEFORE we run into it in game? Where is the "hey, you might want to hang on to those exotic shards till next week, you will need them for the expansion" tweet? Where is the public test realm so we can preview changes and get a feel for how the game is progressing?

          • Lol are you really comparing this to WoW. Every expansion in WoW is literally like a whole new game. Bungie tries to treat this game like an mmo when it really isn't. That's the main problem this game has and it's going to continue until they realize that.

I don't really care one way or another, but WOW and Destiny are 2 completely different classes of games. Attempts to compare them are irrelevant. Edit: op called Destiny an MMOFPS.... Lol
Bungie explicitly stated that destiny is NOT an mmo
• Yes the gear in wow increases greatly between each expansion pack but you still have to lvl up you can't just buy the gear and be that level you have to earn it. Therefor, your wrong.

In wow you don't level your gear. In wow your level isn't dictated by your gear. In wow there are actual expansions and they don't come out every three months. In wow you can't just buy gear from the new expansion that's immediately better than the previous endgame gear. In wow you need the previous endgame gear to even stand a chance at getting the new endgame gear.

Everyone needs to think of it this way: if bungie didn't allow players, who didn't grind through VoG, to get to 31 without vendor then there wouldn't be much content to play in this dlc, which would make the $20 cost a joke.

            • But wow was released with a tonne of content, the add on was released later then three months and contained substantial content. Yes it cost to play it, but it had me hooked, they did ruin it for me on second update but such is life. I think destiny should have been released with the alleged new content in the game. Iron banner should be like a nightfall for lower levels, if you hit with a 228 level weapon you do almost 100% damage to a level 23, anything above that is significantly reduced to a point where high levels become untouchable. Keep crucible for those who want to use rare weapons at 30-31 bless those singen users. To buy materials like spin metal etc you should have to have supplied the tower with loads to show your worth, then you can buy. Ascendant materials should drop a little more frequently. Shorten the kill range of fusion rifles. Increase Base damage of pulse rifles. Be able to change reticle colour of weapons. Also would have been nice to have a gunsmith who could after giving mats or a quest alter perks of legendary weapons. Plus three things. Have titans alter your shield frequency so you could have arc, solar or void shield. Hunters alter your weapons, Rof, impact, range. Warlocks able imbue weapons with arc, solar or void damage for a time. Gambling den in the tower for multiple players. More vault space. Shared inventory between all chars so I don't have to keep swopping. Every refresh the legendary items by factions change their perks. Also I'd like thorn to do 10x damage per dot tick and have 50 ticks of said dot.
