Why TDB ruined Destiny for all dedicated gamers

Dear Bungie and Forums, I'm going to explain why the first DLC -blam!-ed up Destiny for me and all of my friends. We played the beta and since day one, we were all super excited and had lots of fun and made a lot new contacts while playing the first three months. We played the Vault of Glass, without help and exploiting. Got our own tactics and theories and we spent so much time in getting the full raid set... Far too much time as it seems. I got in over 30 runs (i deleted two of my chars and played new ones) with all chests a total amount of 4 set pieces. I upgraded a lot of exotic and legendary weapons and armors. Our whole team was so excited about getting the hard raid stuff like helm and VM that we didnt stop playing, no matter what it took because we thought we will need it in the first DLC. Yeah, Destiny was fun. It WAS. What is the logic, that all people who wasted all their time in the Raid are now fooled because you can BUY better gear instantly ? Why are all the Exotic weapons I loved and used now worse than my unused because I have to upgrade them again and wasted all the materials on it? Why cant the ones we fully ugraded pre DLC be upgraded automaticly without Xûr? You upgrade the Vex Mythoclast to the highest damage just to make it the one iwth the least one week later? I personally love everything you put into the game. The weapons are nice, the armors look neat. The PVP maps are awesome and the new Raid too. But sincerely.... What about I use the next to weeks to get the max amount of commendation and coins for Vanguard and Crucible with all characters - abandond Destiny for three months and when I log back in with the next DLC I'll be instantly better equipped than all the people who played it this time... ...This is just ridiculous. It is nice for all the casual gamers and, as it seems for all that kind of people you (Bungie) aim up too. We others are kicked in the ass by your gear resets and if this will happen with every DLC you will ruin that game totally just like Ubisoft with AC. Bungie... You created a excellent shooter with a GREAT design, an awesome universe and perfect mechanics. Why ruin that? Gear resets? Okay. But not every 3 months! New armor to buy? Okay. But not BETTER than the last raidgear! I can only speak for myself and everyone i know. But we are going to play Destiny a LOT different from now on. We named our Clan out of fun "Almost Casual" and now where going to play like that. Casual. I would have loved if I had now the same experience and motivation with the DLC as with the original game. I bought your Season Pass and im going to play your two DLC's. But if you keep your system like this, I'll be out after that. Cheers.

  • Your opinion is flawed on so many levels. Its an MMO - Its a Dungeon / Raid game. I spent countless of hours in other games raid before where gear was pointless after every Raid patch. Stop -blam!-ing crying and play the game as intended, or leave and -blam!- off out of these forums.

Came on here thinking of posting something similar. I actually bought the DLC and feel like I wasted my $35 already. I already felt like nightfall were mostly trivialized by all the cheese spots and as a result never felt like doing them, but hey I tried VoG once and it was awesome, I enjoyed playing crucible, weekly heroics were something people were still will to do legit and were sorta fun. Now DLC launches, a lot of people don't want to bother with VOG anymore, new raid is so broken I don't even want to bother trying it out, will likely just get people who want to cheese. To make things worse I had one buddy who played regularly but is done with it now because of pay wall so can't do weeklies with him. Heck they even messed up the new crucible content. I thought one thing I knew I would enjoy is new maps. Well for one, I tried 2/3 of them and hated them, and second why the heck are they on a separate playlist only under the featured modes? Would it really be so difficult to just sprinkle them in with the rest of the maps on the normal play modes? If your team all owns TDB put them in pool A of matchmaking, if someone in group doesn't put in pool B. Why make it separate so you know you will only ever get those 3? Why make it so you can only play them on 2 modes a week? Even though I don't like the 2 new maps I tried, I wouldn't mind playing them occasionally to mix it up, but when I tried 2/3 and didn't like them I didn't have any desire to stick in a playlist that would always be those 3. Hence the fact I didn't even try the third yet. Anyways, I already felt a lot of endgame was trivialized with too many exploits, people already running around with every exotic in the game, but at least had VoG to run which was fun. Yes it still had the odd one you could abuse. Main thing I have always enjoyed was crucible, but enjoyed the odd weekly, daily, enjoyed my VoG run. Now dailies aren't as useful as they were, weeklies my buddies are locked out, instead of one good raid you now have a completely broken one and one that is obsolete. Honestly I could still try to find groups for nightfalls, weeklies, etc. but find myself asking why? It has mostly just devolved to finding a place where you can't be hit and shooting at one spot. Would like to run VoG still I guess if I can find a group, don't want to exploit the entire crota raid. Got Dragon Age, and think I will only be on for the odd rounds of crucible at this point. Basically taking a break until House of Wolves in the hope that somehow we will have 3 raids that are actually relevant and all of the end game content (at least that is still relevant) isn't all trivialized. I would rather do the content as it was intended, it's more fun and actually has some meaning to it. Also I worked partway through the Eris bounties. Actually enjoyed the first parts, go through story missions, find some unique dudes in patrol areas, cool, melee 5 cursed thralls....on that now and seems like a bit of a pain but ok. Look ahead and have to kill like 100 wizards/knights which would be ok just holding bounty and sitting on it until I naturally complete it, but death loses 20 points? So basically this is setup that you probably won't complete it unless you are specifically farming. Look down the list and similar things after that. Now I'm asking why would I want to do all that farming? That doesn't sound fun at all and I have no motivation to do that.

Dedicated vs casual gamers? Dedicated should never be in the same sentence as gamer unless you make a living of the game. So we have gotten to lvl 30 through raid gear. I had fun with it. Gear now being obsolete? Those who never gotten raid gear would still have difficulty doing that first raid. Our advantage? We can run through it easier and get more shards for upgrades. We have lvl 30 gear in completion from the first raid to allow us to be the first to do the DLC raid. Those who will be getting gear for crucible or vanguard. Easier for them? So what? They, just as us lvl 30s, will need to grind for lvl 31 gear now. Aim for completion of what can be accomplished not by comparison of what other people do or do not have. If you honestly need to roll 3 characters just to get to 30 and to get what you want from this game... Then you're playing it way too much Other then that... You do have valid points. Bungie doing this stupid reupgrade everything is dumb. Was it honestly hard to just add another upgrade column. This DLC and BUNGIE stating how it will change how we play Destiny comes to show how they never really new how to progress our items and armor from the start of the franchise an will probably introduce another reupgrade for the second DLC. In other words - no structure to armor or weapon progression for the franchise... Just watch, they'll be saying the exact same thing with the house of wolves DLC as it will forever how you play Destiny...

It's funny because my Hunter,3rd and last character, was level 27. Now I'll make him my main and easily go to 31 haha.

        • Well said OP! I couldn't stop playing Destiny because it was exciting adding new gear and weapons to my arsenal. Bungie buffed a few exotics I had and I was even more excited, DLC just around the corner..............then it hit.......the news that we had to re-grind our weapons and exotic armor.....WTF? I thought we'd only have to add that new shard to our existing exotics to upgrade them, not do that all over again....and grind for new Legendary / Raid gear, (no issue with this whatsoever), and VOG became obsolete? WTF? I was sick to my stomach! I logged in on Tues hoping that my love for the game would overcome my concerns.....but no. Back to grinding bounties 90% of the time. I played for about 15 mins and felt sick to my stomach again. Fast forward to today and I login. I grab a new set of boots and arm gear from the Vanguard vendor, pick up some bounty missions and could only do 1. It is as I feared.....grind fatigue has set in and I have no desire to play Destiny anymore. Wow Bungie, you had a gem of a game but ruined it by making it a complete and utter grind fest, and nuked VoG. Please take my season pass money and put it towards hiring a professional MMO consultant. Please. I hate that I feel done with Destiny, but I need more than a grind fest and an obsolete raid to carry on. I didn't need my exotics reset. I worked my ass off for them and where is the payoff? Grind for them again? Really? Damn, this sucks cause I really loved this game. Game over.

I like it just fine, releveling exotics, and getting new raid loot gives me something to do. Already dissembled my entire VOG sets on all 3 characters. I'm probably not dedicated though, I only play like 7-10 hours a day >.<

                • I thought about this some more and realized that gear is available from the vendors. The people who purchase new gear from the vendors didn't get it for free. You worked hard for your gear, and the people who will purchase new gear from the vendors will have worked just as hard at earning the Crucible and Vanguard marks and commendations they spend on that gear. Whether it's raiding, Strikes, Crucible, Patrols, Bounties, the other people earned an up too. They're just being rewarded for work they already put in but weren't initially rewarded for.

I'm a dedicated destiny player and I don't feel this way so please edit post and stop being so obnoxious to act as if everyone shares your view on things. Accept the fact that your gear is now worthless and move on to Crota's End. Also you have only done 22 runs of the raid so don't lie when it's so easy for someone to find out.

                      • Not all dedicated gamers. Not me and not my friends. We love it. Still. I'm not arguing here though, I really get why people are feeling let down and disappointed. It's a shame they haven't caught everyone like they have my group. Maybe we're mugs, I don't know. But I'm really happy with this DLC and I'm happy to fork out for the next one too. I hope The House of Wolves is better for you, if you're still playing :/

                      • I understand why you are miffed. I also understand why Bungie have gone this route and I'm happy for it. I've played from release and still stuck at 29. I'm a family man so restricted to casual play as such. I've still put plenty of hours in though. For my part, I made huge mistakes when it came to leveling up. I didn't really grasp the games mechanics. By the time I reached a lvl that I could tackle vog, it became a playground of elitist snobs. I've been in a few times now with players like myself and loving it. The point is, I felt left behind by the game because I had a life outside of it. I applaud all of you who made the best of the game and now feel short changed by it. It sucks for you I know. Destiny as a game needs to attract not just those with time on their but those who don't as well to survive. You're still having fun so don't leave. What would be the point? Enjoy the knowledge that you have in your playing time, slapped Destiny senseless and taken everything it had to offer.

                        • Couldn't agree more. All our past gear/weapons we worked so hard to level up are pretty much useless now if you intend to do crotas end. I never understood why a legendary weapon has the same attack stats as an exotic either. Exotic should be higher. Took me 3 months to get 1 guardian level 30...took 2 days to get my other 2 gardians to level 30 and my main is level 31 already (just need few more upgrades). Be interesting to see what xur brings tomorrow as I think everyone will be shooting straight up to level 30...within 3 days lol. Took 3 months before DLC...takes 3 days now. Makes sense.
