There seems to be general hate on here for an exotic vendor, and other than random entitlement, it may be due to misinterpretation.
What is an exotic in the context of destiny? Well let's compare them to legendary items of the same item class. Same stats in terms of attack, impact, etc. the only thing that sets an exotic apart is one unique upgrade in its skill tree. We got that? Cool. It is not a trophy that can be lauded over anyone because it is in unlimited supply. Anyone can get it, anywhere. You can grind the raid with 3 characters on both difficulties week after week until an exotic drops from the chest, congrats. However, that very same gun could have dropped for someone from a legendary engram that happened to fall from a dreg in the cosmodrome when your fireteam buddy ran hm over with their sparrow. Two stories, one common denominator, luck.
Then there is the flip side of that coin, good old bad luck harry. That also runs the raid religiously and has guys convicted of vehicular manslaughter on his fireteam, but no exotics... ever. Imagine that level of frustration where despite your hard work grinding away, you are yet to be rewarded for your efforts, must suck right? Or can't you imagine it because it's not happening to you?
That's the problem with RNG. Now from a developer standpoint, how to you ensure bad luck Harry doesn't toss your game (rightfully so) for being treated unfairly? Vendors duh. There are ways to buy every tier item in the game. Vendors sell legendary items 24/7 of a standard stock, with no refresh rate. See something you want? Grind to get it, buy it, feel fulfilled at what your hard work accomplished. Which brings me to Xur, the vendor of exotics.
Xur is here for two days per week, with an unpredictable carrying stock. He's not giving them away for free either, they cost strange coins, where outside of a a max guarantee of 9 weekly, are luck based otherwise. Xur has no 9 coin item, so presuming no other coin drops, Bad Luck Harry would have to save for two weeks minimum to enjoy the experience of owning an exotic.
Xurning vs. Earning (the back asswards part of this post)
Real world scenario:
You want an item that you know exists, but it costs $100, somewhere.
Real world "RNG earner":
"I walked this street up and down every day for the last two weeks and finally someone dropped $100, I got my item"
Real world "Xurner":
"I saw an item I wanted was on sale, and I got a part time job, for which they paid me a wage, I eventually amassed $100, and bought my item"
Who sounds like they actually earned the thing they now have?
So don't hate on Xur, and the guy that traded cash for gold., if you can.
Now I'm not saying you still aren't entitled to your own opinion, but i hope this post sheds some light on our favourite weekend topic.

I think you earn your exotics either way. Getting exotics through RNG takes a ton of grinding strikes, raids and PvP. You get random exotics which may or may not be what you want or which you may or may not be able to use. Getting exotics through Xur takes a ton of grinding strikes, raids and PvP. You get strange coins and hand them in for exotics that you want and can use. I've gotten exotics both ways. I earned them both ways. What's all the fuss about which way you get stuff? Other than specific strikes that offer guaranteed strange coins, getting strange coins is up to RNG.

As easy as this: BUNGIE SHOULD ADD LOOT TABLES!

3 RespuestasI think people are becoming stupid when they play this game. Every day on the forums, Xur sucks, RNG, That is not earning and this is. Anyone else thinks it is the same annoying thing on forum.

10 RespuestasAss backwards* Your post is now invalid because of this screw-up.

1 RespuestaBump. Thank you for your common sense, which is clearly lacking on this server.
-
You forgot to mention that xur exists solely for the purpose of breathing life into destiny. Old players check back every week and get excited over new weapons.
-
Couldn't have said it better myself
-
4 RespuestasExcept it's easy to make other characters and get 27+ strange coins each week, thus allowing the gun to be bought every single week. That's more like having a job that you have to work 2 hours a week for and get paid enough to buy a holiday each week. There's your context professor.

1 Respuestaout of 674 tiger strikes between all 3 characters, I have had 2, count them 2 exotics drop as a random drop. the first one was patience and time. a week later xur was selling it. the second one that dropped was... Patience and time again. I have all of the exotic bounties, and have two bad juju's. I have bought all of the exotics from xur except gjalihorn. the point is I have guns that I don't use, and some that I always use. I like to have them all, I hate hand cannons, but I still bought TLW. xur selling exotics to all that can afford them does not devalue your favorite gun. it will be your favorite gun either way right? just because you feel entitled because you were one of the first to get say hawkmoon, does not make it any less valuable to you now that others have it right?

4 RespuestasOr they could do the heroic on 3 characters like everyone else and get 27 a week and I don't wanna hear you don't have time to do that it's not hard to lvl to 20 hell you could've lvl'd 1 lvl a day since the game came out and you would've got 2 other characters to 20

1 RespuestaFinally. Someone with some sense.
-
The vast majority of people like Xur. Every poll shows that.
-
Golf clap. Glad someone gets it!

My arguement against Xur is slightly different than many others'. I don't have any particular issue with a vendor selling exotics, if that's the path the developer wants you to travel. However, the developer in this case has outlined multiple paths, and has set the easiest one as a vendor providing exceptional weapons for scant trinkets. In any traditional MMO, the best equipment is the hardest won. Make no mistake that exotics are better than other gear, including raid gear... which is why you can only use one at a time. The most sought after items are the hardest to get, and require dedication to unlock. Either from grinding out some objective for a great length of time to overcome astronomical odds, or by completing (often repeatedly) difficult content. What Xur does in Destiny is provide a path that requires no work to achieve a significant goal. Its a short cut. And its a short cut precisely because the currency used to purchase from him can be gained in significant quantities at low levels completing easy content, or even more significant quantities playing a short round of higher level weekly content. The game literally throws this currency at you for completing nothing of value. It takes no time or effort to accumulate enough coins to buy an exotic. If Xur's costs were significantly higher, or if coins could only be gained in small numbers from endgame content, or (for instance) as a consolation reward from not receiving better drops in the raid... then the work it would take to BUY an exotic would be more on par with what it takes to earn one from a bounty, or have one drop as a random reward. In such a case, all paths would be equally rewarding, rather than making Xur the easy choice for exotics.

I said basically the same thing earlier. It's a way of leveling the playing field in a broken loot system where one person gets rewarded the first time they do a level 10 raid and the other can grind through that raid on level 24 countless times over the next 2 months and never get that reward.
-
You're guaranteed 27 coins a week, if you have 3 characters. So, it's fairly easy to buy whatever you want.
-
Editado por B0RNSTELLAR: 11/15/2014 9:55:10 PMi have 125 coins, -blam!- off Also I did the bounty to earn this. And after grinding bounties to acquire the bounty itself
-
Brilliant.
-
It's actually a guaranteed 27 coins each week, if you do the weekly on 28 with all three of your characters. But I agree with your point.
-
1 Respuesta...you got 'Like' )) brilliant post mate ..the only thing i would like to add is that all those people who spread hate because Xur sold this or that should realize they're minority. you yourselves so often use the term "great, Xur is selling *insert weapon name*, now EVERYONE is gonna have it", ...now think about it for a while, k? ...done yet? ...kewl, so from Bungies perspective, they make 'EVERYONE' happy by having Xur sell *insert weapon name* and the only 'cost' of that is few haters, FEW.....imo Exotic vendor is a GREAT move from Bungie

Summary : Bounties = earned it Bought it with earned coins = earned it Rng = randomly found it/awarded it Got it.
-
It's called entitilment people are gonna complain because they can.

3 things. Haters gonna hate. The spoils go to the victor. The ends justify the means.

Isn't it "ass backwards" or "bass ackwards"?

3 RespuestasBasically in any game you want to feel different from other characters. Exotics are supposed to give yoh that feeling ya know. Problem is gettin exotics are totally random, so no one really earned their exotic because its luck based not skill. Solution- their needs to be a way to actually target exotic weapons/armor and do certain things to get them. Exotic bounties have this right, so more exotics need to have an actual process to get them. For example, to unlock TLW a player should have to have the highest score in Crucible 1000 times. Just to unlock the bounty, then more steps would continue until you got TLW. This way all exotics are earned, the better player you are the faster you get them. I disagree with the current strange coin system simply because once you hit level 26 you can have these things on farm every week. Im currently sitting on 112....yes 112 strange coins lol and thats just foolish to me. Foolish that i essentially can go grocery shopping for exotics like im a millionaire. Xur can stay in the game sure, but there needs to be a specific way to earn exotics now because even the bounties are rng based.
