Ever thought that eventually the universe will end and everything humanity has ever done will be destroyed and forgotten. Also when you die say about 50 years later the majority of people will be forgotten, not even known by their great grandchildren. Finally, eventually the human race will end and everyone an everything you ever loved will be gone, only to be found by the next sentient being to inhabit the earth/planets humanity extends to (if the earth hasn't been destroyed by then!).

1 RespuestaI'm going to say something, just for the sake of it. These aren't my words. But a friends. My friend believes that we are small. And we are, right? On the scale of the universe, we as people, don't really matter. But that's where you're wrong. Everything matters. I don't remember it all, what he told me. But picture this. Imagine all the choices, events, and everything else that ever happened to your parents before you were born. Now knock even one of those events out of place. Reality as you know it would be different. Maybe, on a scale that was so small, you wouldn't even notice it. But it would be different. And the person you are, here, right now, wouldn't be the same. You might night even be born. Now, with this simple idea, take it, and amplify it. Your grandparents. Their parents before them. Events in the world. The evolution of our species. The very first seconds after our planet formed and every SINGLE particle and atom being in place. Yes, we are small. But our actions are not. Every action, and every inaction we make, ripples outwards, connects with other people, which in turn creates more ripples. Theses ripples, continue on through time, without end. And when you look at an individual ripple, it may seem small. But when looked at as a whole, they are staggeringly enormous. Big enough to rival the universe in complexity and size. And if you remove or shift, any one of these ripples, everything changes. The human race might end. But it might not. We might go on, to leave our planet, long after our sun dies off and takes our homeworld with it. But if one child ate a peanut butter sandwich and died from their allergy to it, which caused their father great emotional distress, which in turn didn't enable him to work his best on his work, which was crucial to the development of a new technology, then that technology might not be discovered in time. Of course, I'm not saying an event like this stands out amongst others. But I'm saying every choice, every action, and every outcome done by any living person in our entire history was important, because every SINGLE one of them contributed to the world, and everything in our reality as it exists today. As my friend told me. You are not as small as you think.

1 RespuestaNo my friend one thing is eternal and beyond the universe. And that is boobs. Boobs have and always be there. They work outside of our realm and will continue to work once it ends.

I agree. From the cosmic perspective, nothing that we do as humans holds any significance. That has been weighing heavily upon my mind as of late.

The Andromeda galaxy is on a course directly into the Milky Way galaxy... Earth could get destroyed in the proccess... But that's in a very very very very long time.

Editado por banj0: 10/1/2014 7:57:20 AMIt's funny how the teenage angst rolls in about every three months here. Nihilism is a waste of your precious time.

True even if humanity made it that far we couldn't even survive after all matter decays

2 RespuestasEver watch doctor who? We'll survive the end of the universe with a void ship, wait until the next Big Bang (assuming there is one, as the mechanism behind the end of the universe is still being debated), and then rebuild on some new planet...
or maybe we'll just nuke ourselves into oblivion.
5 RespuestasThe universe is infinitely expanding, the hunan race will thrive as long as we don't give up, and we're almost about to quickly travel through space.

2 RespuestasJust because something ends doesn't mean it doesn't matter. On the contrary, it gives even more value to the precious time you have.

5 RespuestasEditado por Masque of Night: 10/1/2014 2:32:58 AMYes, futility is the nature of all physical existence, i've come to terms with this quite some time ago, and to be honest it doesn't really matter to me. Our purpose as sentient beings, ironically enough, is to find purpose or create it ourselves. Just because everything is destined for destruction doesn't automatically mean the here and now doesn't matter, because you can still improve the lives of yourself and the lives of others, and work to create a brighter and more pleasant world for us all to live in. We won't live to see the world end, and even if we did, is that any reason to deprive ourselves of joy, of pleasure, of love, or the very life we've been given? Even an existence as temporary as our own, whether it be remembered or forgotten, is a gift we're given that allows us to discover and explore a world, and maybe one day even a universe so great and grand that it'd take more than one lifetime to explore even a fraction of. I suppose, despite the intrinsic futility of it all, I still see a beautiful existence that's brimming with possibility, limitless opportunity, and a story for every soul willing to be a part of it, just waiting to be etched into the infinite fabric of time.
