Ok, so there is a bunch of hate heading towards Bungie's hit, Destiny.
Why? The storyline.
These involve the story being too short, making no sense, to easy, and down right boring.
Well my fellow guardians!
Bungie themselves have said prior to launch, "You are only scratching the surface."
This is a true fact. Each DLC brings out a bunch of new missions to add on to the story.
*****SPOILERS*****
The dark below, Destiny's first DLC. This is set on the moon, where you will have to end up facing lets say a Hive god!
Don't believe me? Check the description for it on your marketplace or store.
If you really think it's boring, that's fine don't play it continuously.
Too short? Don't spend hours on it at a time!
Too confusing? Pay close attention to the Grimoire cards as you unlock them, it goes in depth as too what happened prior to the present day.
Nobody is forcing you to play this game.
So either wait to be mind blown or leave. It's that simple!
Either way this is the breakthrough that the gaming community has needed and a big congratulations is needed for all those who worked countless hours to achieve such brilliance!
WELL DONE BUNGIE!!!

2 RespuestasThey key is to get really messed up before you play. Then each day everything seems new to you.

1 RespuestaIt's not the story that is lacking, it's the storytelling. There is nothing wrong with the grimoire system as a means of delivering secondary and/or background lore to the player where it's inclusion in game would be out of place in the narrative or simply too impractical for any reason to present in a manner consistent with the production values of the rest of the game. The problem though, is the grimoire is being used as a primary source of providing necessary context to the player. I am a big fan of Destiny's story and lore. As a Lovecraft devotee, I am really digging the whole sci-fi take on the mythos here. I think part of the problem that I have been seeing is that people are mistaking a creative design choice for poor storytelling, such that it muddies the waters of discussion a bit on this subject. Not revealing the nature of the traveler, for example, is not poor storytelling. In fact, the presence of mystery and the drive to uncover those secrets as the game develops (not just now but into the future) is not only a proven way to engage a player, but one I personally enjoy myself and approve of. Rather, where this game fails is in providing a clear and believable context and purpose for the player within itself. Destiny doesn't, and shouldn't, need or even attempt to make sense compared against the real world, despite any superficial similarities. But it does need to be both believable and consistent within its own world. The first thing that happened after my "long dead" avatar appeared was to throw me a gun and park me in orbit looking at a mission. Not even the sparest of reaction or introduction from any of the various npcs. I think it not only possible, but likely that much more exposition was at least planned and then ultimately cut. This is not unusual in games. When crunch times begin and management starts looking for ways to speed up development and/or save money such things are a tempting and easy (dare I say "natural") target. There's plenty more to say on this subject, but ultimately it comes down to the tl;dr: The problem is not with Destiny's story, but it's storytelling.

1 RespuestaIt's going to get better guys. I promise. More is coming. Just be patient. I swear Destiny will change. Destiny will stop being abusive and treating you bad, it really will change and treat you like a wonderful princess. Just give it more of your time.....and money....and then I promise it will give you that story ......promise......it's coming. It's going to change. Trust them. Any minute now. Oh by the way have seen the wonderful story online and the grimoire stuff. NO it's NOT IN the game exactly, just turn then game off then go find a computer and then you can check out all the amazing story stuff online.....that's not in the game But more is coming ................

4 RespuestasGrimoire should...of been...conveyed...through cut scenes...they should just not have ever existed

Deej is a total coon but this game is great.

Lol OP is trolling

> Buys first game out of 4 game franchise. > Literally no plot, no way to access lore in game. > Says we need to spend more money to see more of the story. Even if this was the first chapter in a badass Destiny book, there should be a beginning, middle, and end within that. There should be reasons, and elaboration on what we are doing, there should be some lore/back story provided. Where is the story? Or is it locked behind a paywall? I'm fine with expansions, but they are suppose to EXPAND. Not give us "Chapter One". And if you compare this game to the Souls series in terms of story and lore you are a freaking moron.
Don't worry guise, just buy the DLC to make the game better!
Dumbest post on #Destiny so far. Your literally just telling us Bungie made an unfinished game, and is selling us the rest as DLC. yay... And I know that's what it seems like, but your acting like it's a good thing. Besides, the expansions will probably just be more, "go here, scan that, kill waves of generic enemies, then kill shitty end-game boss" The story/storytelling is just garbage. Don't try to tell me otherwise. Hell, Dark Souls had a better story, because at least they put all the lore into the game, on weapon and armor descriptions, instead of putting it on a -blam!-ing website. Not to mention I felt like I actually had a goal throughout the Dark Souls story, even if it was a little vague.Buying the expansions just so you can have a satisfactory campaign is not ok.

1 Respuesta4 missions. Awesome. At this rate we will be scratching the surface for 5 years
-
I'd love to, "Pay close attention to the Grimoire cards as unlock them." Unfortunately, that's not possible. You can't look at them as they're earned, or even after you finish a mission and are chilling back at the tower, since there's no in-game mecanism to read them. Also, the link on the website to the Grimoire cards seems to be broken, as are the Legend, and Tower links, as of 6 PM EST on Sun. 9/28. Those links just take me back to my profile page. It seems like quite a bit of extra effort to make their players get the game's story from another location, assuming it works, but at least the gameplay's fun.

There's hate bc the forums are the voice of the game's worst population.
-
4 RespuestasThe story telling in Destiny is awful no amount of lore will fix that. There's no subsistence, the entire "campaign" felt like a huge side mission because the actions you take as the protagonist have no cause and affect. Hell you could take out main characters out of the damn narrative and still end up with the same product... I'm sorry but that's a serious problem to me. To say Destiny has a suggestive story because of the grimoire is only an excuse. You don't see movies or books with key points and plot details left out because it was suggested in it's lore.
-
2 RespuestasDlc should expand on a solid (story) foundation, we have no story in this game. Grimoire cards are nice but are no substitute for a good story or npc dialogue found in game, I can't even look at the cards in my game menu? I still love playing this game but no level headed person can defend the story/lack of lore/npc's being interesting in this game.
-
Pretty sure on the very last raid it will be revealed that we've been part of a huge red vs blue type story arc.
-
3 RespuestasAlthough I am completely satisfied with the game, breaking it into DLC that you have to buy, is lame.
-
10 RespuestasLmao I've seen your pathetic self on multiple threads being the biggest most ignorant and stubborn fanboy to everyone who states their opinion that is opposite to your own. This game is a $60 shell. With $30 content peices to fill it. The game is fun, but the amount of times it is rinse and repeat and just so obviously treated with laziness is unbelievable.

1 RespuestaEditado por Rogue4Lyfe: 9/25/2014 11:08:32 PMi dont have the patience to wait 10 years to delve beneath "the surface" there are plenty of players who are level 26+ (there are even level 30's now) who are getting bored because there is nothing new to do besides the crucible. fuking around in patrol and grinding the raid are only fun for so long bungie. because after long enough shit is all the same

11 RespuestasYes, just scratching the surface...however the surface is all there is at this point. I understood I was buying this game for a long haul, but like any good saga, there needs to be some clarity, some characters I can relate to, a plot, some back ground, ffs something. I like to think of a ten year investment like the star wars movies, LoTR, Harry potter books. I'm not claiming any of these are great movies/books, but rather they were all projects that remained highly successful for years past the first installment. And how they did it? Each sequel provided a bit more history, expanded on characters, showed new places, etc...while the first movie/book by itself could've easily been a success as a stand alone. End star wars, a new hope, and it was a great -blam!-ing story. Same with the fellowship of the ring, and whatever the Hell Harry potter is called. However they also left you craving for resolution. This story? Wtf? Im not real sure what the story is, or what the -blam!- I just did, killed a heart and three statues? Uhh ok. I guess so, but why? This story is such a half baked idea, I think all criticism is deserved. I am completely disappointed in this game because we were led to believe it was going to be riveting, and rich, and new. It's a streaming pile is what it turned out to be.

I typically quit games after a few months. I want as much out of a game as possible from the get-go.

15 Respuestas
Bungie themselves have said prior to launch, "You are only scratching the surface." This is a true fact. Each DLC
Stopped reading, DLC that you have to pay for shouldn't make a game good. The game should be good and complete to begin with.
-
This only works for certain play styles, I would think Bungie would want to please all there fan base by catering to everyone's play style.
-
1 RespuestaI dont like buying a game in this day and age, and having it beat and maxed out in a week....This is not Sega Genesis or Original Nintendo....a game like Morrowind is honestly 20X the size, and is 15 years old.... explain that to me.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_III:_Morrowind Destiny is AWESOME, but having 4 levels is pathetic, no matter what the excuse is.
-
I agree 100%! Everyone is a critic. I haven't played a game in a long time that I have truly enjoyed. This game is just breaking the ice of what is to come.
-
Please do keep me updated!

While I agree with most of what you said and am personally enjoying the hell out of the game, you're walking a dangerous line. Be careful that you don't slip into the realm of blind devotion. There are many legitimate issues with this game that I would very much like to see fixed. They have been talked about many times before so why retread old ground. Dismissing them does a disservice to Bungie and the game they created. Look at the patch notes if you don't believe me. They are listening to complaints and I'm sure working on them as we speak. Look at the patch notes if you don't believe me. It may not be as quick, or in the order, that some people would prefer but at least something is happening. Don't be so quick to dismiss criticism because, if done correctly and in a mature manner, we can get the game we want instead if the one they think we should have. Once again, it's a great game and I hope Bungie keeps working hard for us
