4 RespuestasThis has actually been something I've been thinking about a lot lately. I know it's totally not my place, but I occasionally find myself berating close friends of mine for playing female characters deliberately. Now, if they're playing Skyrim, it never bothers me. Who cares? It's a single player game. In a game like Destiny however, I end up clenching my teeth a little at the thought of my male friends playing female characters. I think it's because when I play a game like this, I'm playing as me, and I expect to see my friends in the same capacity. It's you. Now say they're playing as an awoken, or an exo. That's not kosher too right? My friends aren't glowy or robotic, so seeing that representation of them should disappoint me right? It seems to me though, it's about the consistency between real life and the game concerning my state of gender awareness. I'm naturally going to perk up, and pay more attention to my actions, act differently, when an attractive female is in proximity. My desire for complete immersion in games like this is so intense that I think I'm frustrated when my male friends are female avatars because of that. I have to associate my buddy Bill with an attractive chick. Maybe I've got issues, but it does annoy me. It annoys me much like smacking while eating food does. Is it ultimately a big deal? Of course not. Will I speak up about my frustration though? Probably. I do feel silly though. It's a damn game. Why should I care what my friends want to look like in it? It's definitely not okay for me to tell people what is and isn't cool. Regardless, these topics aren't simple. Out in the real world there is a very real movement that's changing the way we perceive gender, and things like this are the little pieces that ultimately become the world we live in. I think regardless we need to think about this stuff, think about why it bothers us or why it doesn't. All that to say, let's be careful about what we get passionate about. Don't be the guy to get verbally violent for something as unimportant as chewing with your mouth open.

I would like to apologize in advance (or maybe it's too late now) for the posts I have made on this topic. I know this doesn't make sense but just bear with me...

Why are there two posts of the exact opposite thing with the same words from two different people.

1 RespuestaAnother thing, I think you're looking at this all wrong. For you, you pretend to be something. You personify yourself through this guardian. It make you live a different story or life through the game. For me, I want to witness a story unfold. It isn't me in the game, it is the character I've created, it's her story. I am just witnessing it unfold. I want to see her do all the cool things she can do. I am not her, I am just a witness. It's all about play style. I don't watch tv so I get entertainment this way. Those who watch tv probably will try to personify themselves in game because they get entertainment elsewhere. Either way, it is an outlet for someone to escape. To either live a different reality or to enjoy witnessing one.

Most of the time I'll pick a female if the male variant is to testosterone filled. Like the titan male IMO is to bulky for my task so the female is much more to my liking. Plus we have helmets on so unless ur starin at their pixels, you don't really notice. Solution for me, add a slider for body mass

Soooo if a woman plays a dude character that's also weird? What about old school days? The men and women were both playing as cheese-looking dot-nomming blobs or blocks...
-
It's good to have something different Don't you get tired of the same thing over and over
-
Im a male. And im considering making a female hunter. Be my first time making a female character. Why? Because I feel like switching it up this time. Try something different.
-
Maybe he likes women?
-
4 RespuestasYeah, I don't get why anyone would pretend to be something they aren't. Humans are weird.

2 RespuestasNothing wrong with having a waifu character. Watch the sun set with her. Kill Fallen with her. Have her to dance for you on top of a table. Cheaper than paying a stripper. Lol.

He thinks of you that way;)

For me it depends on the class and/or what type of person I want my character to be. What fun is there to be had when you shape every character you make after yourself, sex included? For example, my warlock will be male because I always use males for my magic type characters, my titan will be male because it just seems more fitting, and my hunter will be female because I find the idea of a female assassin more appealing. Everyone has their thing. The only problem with men using female characters is the desperate people in game that will suck up to a female avatar only to find out it's a man, but then again it's their fault in the end.

Why are people playing as space soldiers if they are not space soldiers? Why are people playing as robots if they are not robots?
