For various reasons people want proximity chat to facilitate the social aspect of the game. I actually would like this but most likely for reasons already discussed bungie will not include it. Due to harassing and ruining game experience ( regardless of a mute button )
EDIT: Some people aren't understanding why I said "regardless of a mute button". By the time you mute you have already been harassed and your experience is already a bit damaged. Also think about people with children or people playing with their younger siblings or whatever. You don't want to jump into the tower and hear racial slurs from mr.troll™ or your kid hears it or your parents hear it. Some people might just be using the kinect in the living room for instance. It takes time to find the offending user in a menu and mute them by then you have to deal with their BS and it puts a damper on the experience. ALSO THESE ARE NOT MY PERSONAL VIEWS, I AM JUST REPRESENTING THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ISSUE. I'D ACTUALLY BE OK WITH PROXIMITY CHAT.
Matchmaking is another good idea but I also think that completely joining up with randoms on the fly and then being sucked into a raid / mission can lead to many less than favorable teams and promote leavers.
I'd really like a party making system. Rough idea would work like this.
Users go to a "Fire Team Menu" that shows a list of parties currently looking for more or they can create their own party and begin searching. Each party could have labels or a short note so you know it is for PVP or PVE maybe even a certain mission. It should also throw up a "Looking for Group" and "Looking for More" (these could even be symbols) above players name tags. So you don't have to stare at a menu to find players.
This system should work anywhere. At the Tower and ready to head out? Look for a group. Started a mission but think you need help? Start a party. Getting lonely in the open world? Just open up the party tab.
Benefits of the party system:
1. Screen players before you get started. ex. "You don't have a mic? Sorry. Kick." or " We really need a defender Titan"
2. Allows for serendipity and meeting new players without being invasive to those who don't want it.
3. Easily setup crucible pre mades and have a full or partial team that can communicate without bothering people that just want some silent pvp.
We get the necessary social ability to enjoy the game. Without changing the existing systems that the anti social people like.

1 RespuestaIn a way though, constantly being screened and kicked out because you dont have a mic, or you chose a specific class would dampen experiences just as much. For the average casual player getting constantly kicked from parties due to not having a mic, or just not wanting to sit and speak to other people, could steer people away. I think a matchmaking system would be okay, it would keep it interesting having a random person join and not knowing what class they are and just trying to change tactics to combat the situation instead of always being able to form a group almost guaranteed for victory.

Yes yes and yes

1 RespuestaEditado por Kardain: 8/3/2014 4:40:26 AMHow is finding 5 random people (or however many you need to fill a roster) in the tower or one of the many other suggestions given and sending them invites/friend requests any different than the backend matchmaking system filling your roster? Random is random no matter how you look at it.

You can't have a Global MUTE in the Settings Preference page that's MUTED All the time In addition to a Singular MUTE? I get your concerns, Really I do, and I want you to have as an enjoyable experience playing Destiny as I do. If that means a Global Mute in the settings page to prevent ProxChat. I support that idea. I also want to thank you for supporting the addition of ProxChat as well. Currently there is no option for ProxChat and I have played the Beta without Chat function. I have met several players while Exploring or at the tower, and their intentions "appear" to have been wanting to join up and patrol together. But with a few hand gestures, it's nearly impossible to discern exactly what activity both they and myself would enjoy in game play. On all of thoes occasions, we have missed out on opportunities to find a mutual fun activity together. On one instance, I was approached by a NON Bungie.net PS4 player late in the Beta, and we attempted to converse throught the text chat in PSN. Clunky as it was, we had to exit destiny and navigate the PSN menu structure and then attempt to type out a meaningful SHORT message on the controller pad using the on-screen display. This process took nearly a half hour when a simple voice chat could have taken a half of a minute to come to a conclusion of what activity we wished to embark on. Eventually Boredom set in and once I was done typing a response and returned to Destiny, the other was gone. off on some other adventure. Proximity Chat is VERY important for this Social experience that Bungie has created, and most of the players on the Sony platform lack extended ties to friends found in other Bungie games. This means most of us are creating friendships inside Destiny. If we are to find 'friends' to play along with in the Raids and Strikes as Bungie is detailing with their best desires, we must first forge those friendships as Human Experiences. Creating and nurturing real world friendship bonds take a fair amount of effort by both people even when we sit face to face and chat in a coffee shop for the first time. Reducing the human gamer to a bit of needless and difficult chatter to a few short texts and expecting the bonds of friendship to grow, or to spend a couple of 10 minute fire team raids to form those bonds are simply not enough for real humans to form friendships. How many 'Friends' have you made through Twitter? and if you have, Did you have to type enough tweets to exceed the post length that I just made? Does this mean we are now 'Friends'?

Here Here, anything that doesn't involve having to go to the forums or random spam invites I am all for.

Agreed! Some kind of social group finder tool is NEEDED in Destiny. I think we should keep asking for proximity chat/voice chat in general. I mean, what kind of game that highlights itself as a social experience doesn't even have a chat function?!
-
This isn't a bad idea. It sounds like it might work.

1 RespuestaI really like this idea reminds me of guild wars 1. I don't know tho i think proximity chat could be a cool toggle on or off thing

Editado por Sacred)(Rhaine: 8/2/2014 1:13:17 AMWere grown ups. Grown ups don't get upset when some random on a game shouts abuse we ignore them and move on. not including region chat etc because of trolls is a bad argument. If trolls were such a big problem then you might as we'll avoid the internet entirely just to be safe..... Though tbh region chat wouldn't bother me, an lfg chat channel and a party chat channel and I'd be very happy.

2 Respuestasyour suggestion is plausible (many people already had this idea), but let me tell you something. Do you think bungie will put the effort to put this if they can't even put a simple matchmaking for Raids. Think about it. If they do put something similar up, kudos to them for going over and beyond to help the community.

1 RespuestaEditado por Kurasaki: 8/1/2014 11:28:30 PMSeems like a great idea...Especilly the Display of party name as Text chat above a players character... Until You see group "Looking to get Laid"...or group "Down to F***"...once again more moderating that the community would have to do... if you dont want to have you gaming experience tarnished...a mute all (before even entering an area) should be posed...just my two cents...

This is a great idea!

Editado por DanielKBoom: 7/31/2014 10:53:25 PMGood post. I have been posting the same thing. We can add " LFG farming devils lair for glimmer". " Speed runs for exp" " No scrubs! ". We will be able to find a group for anything. I am all for this. We need some sort of communication. Chat is needed. Let's hope for the best.

1 RespuestaEditado por PhNx Hellfire: 8/1/2014 12:21:11 AMI'm ok without any options. During my Strikes, most people who I opened up my menu and quickly sent an invite with a custom message: "FT communication. Join to hear call outs" got me every single time connected with users including some from the UK who joined immediately and thanked me for he invite. Works like a charm and to be honest, most people who are against matchmaking have yet to identify where on the spectrum they lie in terms of PvE hardest difficulty or PvP hardest difficulty. I say that because this is not a typical shooter and people are getting that confused. Being able to coordinate teamwork and leadership while working with the system (just in case Bungie doesn't give us any solution) is WAY more important then complaining about it, asking for something, but then not being part of the solution if/when nothing happens. Raids will be fine with good leadership and communication via FT chat in parties. We have the local Xbox network which can support up to 8 players if need be for lag mics anyways. Again, I agree I would like proximity chat and any other solution to the equation, but if I don't get that way, I'll still work with what we've got to make it work.

1 RespuestaSounds like League of Legends team builder. Would be a nice feature but even if they started working on it today we probably wouldn't see it until Destiny 3
-
I could see if you could turn the proximity chat off in settings cause when you are running alone the game gets boring as hell
-
1 RespuestaIt would be cool if they had a place to post for party's or groups. Like if I wanted to to post mission 3 need members and then meet up and go.
-
Totally agree with this idea. the tower as it was in the Beta lack of social features
-
Love this idea. I support

Editado por Ninebreaker: 8/1/2014 8:21:44 AMBungie please listen to this person! This feature would be amazing! IMO it's needed in a game like Destiny.

1 RespuestaHalf of the fun of gaming is communication and meeting new people... Taking that away and not having proximity chat limits you to not being able to branch out and meet new people during random crucible matches... To put it nicely.... STOP BEING A BUNCH OF LITTLE WUSSYS!!! Who cares if people talk crap and harass u a bit, get over it and mute them.... Just because there are a few jerks out there doesn't mean that the community should be punished for it... Communication makes games fun, and it pushes people to play better... There definitely should be proximity chat in EVERY pvp game

2 RespuestasEditado por Jesse_James-574-: 8/1/2014 9:20:36 PMOk what about PvP you can't call out against my team i feel for you.Going against a team like mine your going to be spawn traped and demolished before you can blink a eye.Communication through voice chat is as vital to PvP gameplay as having a controller.I really feel for any team not in a fireteam going against my FPS veterans were going to make PvP NO FUN AT ALL FOR TEAMS WITHOUT COMMUNICATION *** BY THE WAY EVERY PlayStation 4 COMES WITH A MIC. *** ***Posted a link to my topic at top come join the debate*** Edit:I apologize in advanced if i come off brash its only for sake of debate.

2 RespuestasIsn't looking for group the same as matchmaking? Wtf
-
Yes exactly what I was thinking. I love it. A easy way besides forums and "IN GAME" way to find other people that want to tackle the same objective

17 RespuestasTo the vocal minority opposing proximity chat... The most common argument in opposition to prox chat seems to be, "just wave and invite them to your FT." Easier said than done, for example. I must have run ten strike missions, and through matchmaking was grouped with twenty other guardians over the course of those ten missions. As a rule, i would wave, buddy jump, and quickly send FT invites to my strike mates, to better coordinate, call for revival etc. etc. during said strike. Of those twenty guardians, two from separate strikes joined my FT. Now, your experience may have been much different in comparison to mine, but that does not change MY experience. What a terrible ratio!!! You can argue, and rationalize all you want. It was like pulling teeth. The system for communication in destiny is a glaring mistake (imho) in an otherwise amazing product. I feel as a community we should be given an official vote handled by bungie for the definitive consensus we deserve on this major issue. I hope i didn't offend anyone, lol. Thank you.
