It is. It is an online game. It has a massive multiplayer segment. It is a Role playing game. It is also an FPS.
Why do people get so upset about labelling it an MMO. What other possible category could it fit under that would do it justice?
MMO doesn't mean a tab targeting fantasy game like WoW.
Just because Bungie won't admit it is an MMO as they are afraid it will scare away the antiMMO crowd doesn't mean it isn't an MMO.
Deal with it people, you are playing an MMO and you like it.... One of us... One of us... One of us.
See you at the next comicon NEERRRDS!!!

Its a Moderate multiplayer online sitty standy shooty dance sim! Obviously!
-
Falls in to - Open world FPS RPG. -blam!- knows what idiots think this is massive enough to be a MMO. WOOOO 3-6 players MASSSSIIIVVVE. Halo is bigger than this.
-
Seriously? People are arguing about what class the game falls into? Who cares, really. As long as you have a good time. Who cares if it is a shared world shooter, mmo, mmorpg etc. Just play it and have fun.
-
It's a shared world shooter. That's how the devs described that Tom Clancy game coming out and it uses the same "mmo" aspects as destiny
-
2 RespuestasBungie won't say it's an MMO because they're going to release stand alone sequels. Destiny will have DLC'S and the major comet dlc, and then they'll release a separate destiny game. Just like Halo: CE and then halo 2 there will be Destiny and then Destiny 2
-
2 Respuestasmmorpg have raiding parties with larger populations than all the occupants of the tower (the most social area of the game). So that might be a reason.
-
3 RespuestasWhy not MORPG, without the M of "Massive"?
-
Why did u even get this app if all you are doing is complaining not giving "feedback"
-
Shared world FPS* #deal with it #Bungie

Editado por Spiritpotato: 8/1/2014 1:42:45 AMHonestly I don't think it matters what it's called. It's a great game, who cares what Bungie wants to call it?

28 RespuestasWould you consider Halo's Firefight a MMO? That's essentially what we're playing. We're matched up with a few randoms to clear out endless respawning mobs. Again I fail to see the Massively Multiplayer part of MMO.
-
40 RespuestasThey made a new category, called it a SWS (Shared World Shooter)
-
It is an MMO. But as you can see with the posts to follow, that term leads to a whole host of assumptions and expectations. Which prevent people from interacting and accepting Destiny on its own terms. Instead they mainly see how it "come up lacking" in comparison to WoW, Everquest or Elder Scrolls.
-
5 Respuestas
It has a massively multiplayer segment.
16 players is not massively multiplayer. That's the reason it isn't classed as an mmo.
-
This game is definitely an MMORPG. Right after you change the meaning of the first M from Massive to Miniature. In all seriousness though it really is disappointing how not massive and anti social this game is. Had high hopes for it.
-
It's a "shared world shooter"
-
Looks like a CORPG to me. Pretty much it is the same type as the term coined up by Areanet for their game.
-
12 Respuestasyou are only allowed 12 people in a loby at the tower, and of that 12 people you can only talk to the 6 in your fireteam. if that makes it an mmo then by that standard cod is also an mmo because you can have 12 people in a loby. and are only able to communicate with the 6 on your team
-
7 Respuestaswhat version of this is "massive multiplayer" the game caps at 12 players...MAXIMUM, how is that massive, furthermore, it's a first person shooter, not a rpg..
-
2 RespuestasIt's a marketing thing ( mmo have a bad rep plus fps are hotter on the market ) plus this is an MMORPGFPS fantasy game so halo meets borderlands with a touch of cod and Star Wars !
-
Heres what kind of game Destiny is... A f@$king awesome game.
-
2 RespuestasIN said it was an mmo also
-
3 RespuestasWhy does it matter so much that you label it an mmo?
-
16 RespuestasYes, it's online and a multiplayer game, but I wouldn't say it's a massively multiplayer game. Yes, massively can be a subjective word, but if we consider Destiny to be an mmo, then like others have said Battlefield can be considered an mmo, because it has a larger amount of players on screen at once. With that reasoning alone I just I wouldn't use the term massively in conjunction with multiplayer for Destiny.

9 RespuestasShared world suits it better. An MMO you would have hundreds of people around you hence the massive part (except when said MMO's start going under)
