I was a Christian since I was a kid until I was 20. I was a son of a pastor, preached, played the piano and was youth leader for 2 years, took 1 year of advanced bible studies. Know what I realized? That Religion is bullshit.
Do you know why people believe in Religion? It's not because of the evidence, as there is no emperical concrete data to support it. It is because it makes them feel good.
Scared of death? Don't worry, your boy J-C got your back when you die to bring you to heaven.
Are you broke? It's fine, even if you're poor in this life, you'll be rich in the afterlife.
Just moved into a new city/country, know no one, left your family and feel alone? Your "brothers" from Church will give you company.
Are you a divorced female, who was always unsuccesful with love, had a bad childhood, and no one ever loved you? YOU are the Church's best demographic! Know why? Even if the "man" doesn't love you, God sure does.
Did you never finish school or get a degree, work at a shitty job, and you don't feel valued? Go to Church, the members of the congregation will give you that feeling.
The list goes on. THAT'S why people believe. It helps their morale. It eliminates fear. It makes them feel special.

When you see how it works, the way most churches are littleore than conversion factories. My father planted about four different churches across the nation. They always started in a low income area to help boost attendance and it worked.. The main thing that turned me to atheism was actually reading my bible, though. There's a reason "God" came for the poor and distraught, people who are well off and not emotionally fractured don't need fairy tales to help them sleep at night.
-
You, sir, understand me completely. You earned yourself a chocolate bar. Demographically, where I live atleast, the members of the congregation have low income. Not to say that rich people aren't religious, but you are more prone to be religious if your income is low. Well said, sir.

Oh crap I sinned but god makes me feel good. Wait, no, if god wasn't real sins wouldn't matter and I wouldn't feel guilty/bad about myself. 101

I didn't understand your post.

"90 Replies" Congrats, bro.

Looking at your posts, you seem very close-minded and condescending. No offense, but you are not helping the stereotype of the arrogant atheist.
-
Hopefully you aren't Christian, because that would be very ironic.
-
Thank you. I try to make a positive and non condescending impression on everyone, being a Christian and an optimist I want everyone to be happy.
-
You call it "bullshit" without any evidence. You claim it is false because it makes them feel better. Doesn't discovering how laws of physics work bring enjoyment to you? Doesn't it make people happy when an innovation is made in creating a new technology? You are working from a rather frail premise. And specifically in this relation, you seem to be unable to look at it from a Christian view, considering you claim to have been a Christian. They believe God is relating to them as a person. Do you not feel comforted when around friends? Obviously if they believe that (especially if they actually are in a relationship with Him, as is the Christian claim) they would be comforted.

I just hope this world does not get so messed up

Oh. By the way, the guy who invented the MRI and Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein and DARWIN ALL OPENLY CLAIMED TO NOT BE ATHIESTS SO YES THIESTS CAN BE SMART TOO.
-
Hahahaha. "Hmm, these people were smart, and they weren't atheists. Let's put them on my time to give our side credibility. Pathetic. Albert Einstein was NOT religious. He said: "It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly". Google it. This is a post a replied to someone speaking about this, in response to Darwin, Newton & and the inventor of the MRI: The level of religiosity in that period, 20th & 19th century (and periods before it) was very high. Why? technology wasn't advanced as it was today, and when people didn't understand something, they threw in God into the equation and let it be, more commonly referred as "God of the gaps". You could've quoted anyone from that time period, and they would've believed in God. Even Darwin did, it was the hip thing to do at that time. Today, we have explanations for mysteries, and even if we don't have all the answers, we are slowly getting there. When we will be able to explain it scientifically, what becomes of your God? He becomes smaller, and smaller, and smaller.
-
People try and say that God is not scientific. But there is evidence proving Pangea in the bible. Either way this conversation you are having with a middle schooler has been going on for days. Don't you feel accomplished?
-
That's because... God isn't scientific? As for pangea, while this view is possible, it is most definitely not universally held by Christians. It doesn't explicitly mention it, therefore it isn't "evidence". Genesis 10:25 mentions, “…one was named Peleg, because in his time the earth was divided…” Some point to Genesis 10:25 as evidence. However, some view Genesis 10:25 as referring to the “division” that occurred at the Tower of Babel, not the division of the continents via “continental drift". Do I feel accomplished? not quite, but I am getting there.

Okay. I will give you the fact most Christians do not study fully in order to understand modern day science. That's a point well made. Lots of Christians use God as a crutch, but studied and educated ones do not.
-
I will go into church and scream GOD IS DEAD if you give me observable evidence of evolution. Macro-Evolution. Micro-Evolution is accepted by educated religious people and is really just adaptation. Darwin (who by the way was not athiest) and his finches did not change type. They started as birds, and became... Slightly different birds. Nope. Not seeing humans to monkeys here. Atheists use complicated theories because they do not wish to hold themselves accountable to a supreme being because they cannot accept that they are not the god in their world. BESIDES RELIGION IS SUCH HARD WORK DEFENDING THAT IF WE DID IT TO FEEL BETTER WE WOULD FIND SOMETHING ELSE!!!!!
-
I defiantly do not think I'm the god of this world ( atheist by the way) and I don't use "complex theories because I don't want to hd myself Accountable to a divine being. In fact being athirst make you more accountable for your OWN actions because you don't have god to blame for making you that way, or have god to save you from your sins. And if you can give me tangible evidence that god is 1: real, and 2: a just ruler, then I would belive in him, of course. But believing in god, and putting your faith in god is like if you were born in a country where there was an absolute ruler that no one ever saw, met or talked to, and you read a book by him that said he was totally awesome and a great guy, and that he always did the right thing even though sometimes bad things happen, and you were just like "ok, I love you (Kim-Jong un)". Also, chimp DNA is like over 99% similar to human DNA. It's true, look it up.
-
Scientists can use anything with any sort of information to cover lack of information. While DNA may be similar there is no evidence of the in between stage of evolution between monkey and man. It's called the illusion of knowledge. Look THAT up.
-
Are you saying that all scientists are dishonest and make up stuff
-
No, of course not. I'm saying that sometimes they perceive micro evolution as macro evolution. Micro evolution is really an advanced form of adaptation that has been proven but can be over exaggerated by anyone.
-
Well there are many stages of humanoid species ranging from more chimp like to very humanesqeu (fancy word to make me seem smart) and they were dated in that order, I wonder why?
-
Humanoid doesn't mean human. I want something I can go to a zoo and see. At a zoo I see people and monkeys. I do not see the in between.
-
Maybe that's because through millions of years of evolution, they EVOLVED into humans
