I actually agree with Perry on Homosexuality and Alcoholism
He's getting a bunch of shit about this, and for once (and maybe the only time) I agree with him.
I am greatly paraphrasing here, but he says that people can have a genetic inclination for alcoholism, and for homosexuality. I agree with that.
Now, I do disagree with his conclusion that Homosexuality, like alcoholism, should be classified as a disorder. The main difference is that drinking too much makes you a danger to yourself and others. Craving the same sex doesn't have that problem.

A "disorder" isn't defined by if you're a threat to another human being or society. Transsexuality was a disorder up until the bureaucratic ACA asshats deemed it "dysphoria," which can't even be diagnosed to a transsexual person directly. It's just a loophole so they can get free sex changes AND adopt kids. The term "disorder" can really be changed to anyone's liking these days. I don't give it much validity anymore because of political interest infiltration.

2 Respuestasthat's not really the same, though. you can't be an alcoholic without drinking. if you have the genetic predisposition for being an alcoholic, you can avoid alcohol altogether, and not be an alcoholic. being gay isn't like that. you're gay weather you fuck other dudes (or ladies) or not. you could never even kiss another guy, and you'll still be gay.

3 RespuestasYes, I really don't get why so many liberals are so mad at him. He is agreeing with them. They just don't like the way he is saying it. But he feels that if someone wants to move away from homosexuality, they should be able to seek help, which is where Liberals disagree. Liberals largely believe that help should not be offered to homosexuals who want to try to become straight for a couple reasons. First, the numbers are low (same thing could be said for drug treatment) and second is that allowing there to be treatment is basically saying that there is an issue and it hurts others etc.

Contrary to popular uninformed opinion, people CANNOT choose their sexuality. It's an innate preference they are born with. Trying to force a lesbian to like men is the same as trying to force me to like women. It's not going to happen.

He's getting shit for it because: 1. His answer was in response to being asked if homosexuality was a disorder that could be overcome 2. He stated that, though one may have the genetic predisposition to homosexuality, there's no reason for them to act on it, just like alcoholism 3. He compared homosexuality to something that's justifiably seen as negative 4. He compared homosexuality to something for which people undergo rigorous treatment and learn to suppress But despite all of that, I agree with him 100%.

Genetics give you a disposition towards certain things or mental traits in my opinion. But there still needs to be an environmental factor. So I do agree with you, OP.
