Is it valid to call it a number? What I mean is it "real?" You can't have negative seven items of something, but you can have seven items of something.

I wouldn't recommend it, but you could probably experience a pretty real -7 G force as well. You probably feel real negative acceleration every time you are in a vehicle that uses it's brakes. If you are going 60mph, and slow down to 40 mph, you experienced a very real acceleration of -20mph. So, there you go, tangible negatives.

If you take a lot of math you learn there are many different types of numbers. Negative numbers are in fact real numbers because they can be plotted as points on a continuous number line. However, negative numbers are not natural numbers, which is what you are referring to when you say that you can't have negative seven items of something :)

6 RespuestasIn the case of a negative amount of something, think of it as debt. If I had ten crates of ranges and I owe someone eleven, then all I could give them at that moment would be the ten crates. Now I have zero crates of oranges, but I still owe the person one crate; you could say that you have -1 crates to work the problem out easier mathematically, because the very next crate you get would go to the person, so then you'll again end up with zero crates, but you won't have any debt and you won't have to give anyone any crates anymore.

Negative numbers are integers. So yeah.

Yeah, it is.
