There is a 50% chance that you have the same birthday and a 50% chance you don't if you view it as yes/no question. Otherwise, the statistic is untrue.

She probably meant that there is a 50% chance that there are two people in the class with the same birthday, which is probably correct given the class size you more than likely have.
