So I've never played Marathon. Any gamers gone through a series that I hear to be very good? What did you think?

Its meh at best.

It is okay, the story is very complex and it plays like Doom.

Marathon is wonderful! Like IonicPaul, I'm also biased due to the influence of nostalgia. It's certainly no modern title, but if you can play it with "mid-90's goggles" on, I'd say give it a shot. The story is great (albeit confusing as hell as the series progresses), the characters are very memorable, and the gameplay is still fun, especially if you turn up the difficulty a bit. And while I think the iPhone/iPad versions are really cool, I'd recommend skipping them for a first play-through – the controls are very clumsy and I think it'll detract from the experience.

I loved it back in the day. But, If you haven't played it around the time it came out, you might have the same negative reaction as some of my friends.

3 RespuestasHere, you can download the entire trilogy for mac or pc. You'll have to read to perform a task, however. Oddly enough, you could actually say that Marathon is like the Metroid Prime series. Lots of exploration, switch flipping, some puzzles, and it's an FPS. You can't jump or manually reload, but it's a fun game nonetheless. The first one is really cramped, but it's more open in the second. Oh, also, read the manuals before you play the games. There's no tutorial and the intros are in there. Here's a few related sites: Simplic7y: You can download mods, maps, and plugins here. Pfhorums: Forums. (the Pfhor are enemies from Marathon) Pfhorpedia: A wiki. Not that great honestly, needs lots of work. You can get some information from it though, and if you'd like to contribute it'd be much appreciated. 4 RespuestasIts like Doom but you can look up

Marathon was pretty revolutionary at the time since you can look vertically instead of just horizontal. But Doom though tends to be funner gameplay wise. I'd still give it a shot.
-
3 RespuestasDoom was better ... guess thats an obvious statement though as it is "Doom" that people compare games to (not Marathon). The game play got a little repetitive after the first too levels.

Funny, I just bought Marathon: Durandal off the Xbox Market. So far it's been interesting.

5 RespuestasMy experience playing Marathon: Marathon: Whoa this is pretty neat, gets kind of confusing after a while though. Marathon Durandal: Zzz....zzz....zzz... Marathon Infinity: OMGWTFBBQ DID I JUST PLAY?!

Let's put it this way, I'm still hanging onto an old iMac, so that I can still enjoy those games in their true form!!! Same with Pathways into Darkness, insanely good games, especially compared to what was available at the time.

2 RespuestasIt's a sci-fi novel disguised as a game.

3 RespuestasEditado por IonicPaul: 5/18/2013 6:48:43 AMOh, it's great. First game I ever played, so I'm a bit biased, but it's got a really cool story along with unique gameplay. Just be prepared to do some reading seeing as that was the only way exposition really works in a 19-year-old game.

Editado por Vezilian: 5/18/2013 5:38:26 AMMarathon is awesome! I haven't completed the series but it's very fun. The story is so rich. One of my favorites. You really need to play it. Can't wait for the new one. I wish more people played Durandal on Xbox. :(
