• The question is rather vague, so here's my answer: Israel. I support Israel's right to exist and their sovereignty. The problem most people have with Israel stems from their foreign policy, especially towards Palestinian territory. I really have no qualms about recent Israeli military undertakings upon either Gaza or the West Bank. When a state is entirely surrounded by terrorist organizations, and even countries, that wish to see nothing but Israel's demise, I'd say they have every right to defend themselves the way they do. Using the most recent military operation in Gaza, Operation Pillar of Cloud, I'd say this is a perfect example of why I support them. The reason the operation was even conducted was to diminish constant barrage of rockets being fired into Israel on an almost daily basis by the plethora of terrorist organizations operating in that vicinity. Knowing that groups such as the al-Qassam Brigades use densely populated areas to set up rocket launchers, the Israeli military actually warned Palestinian citizens of an upcoming airstrike (source). Then it's kind of hard to support a territory who can't even decide who's in charge. At least the leaders of Hamas and Fatah are trying at a reconciliation process, but there are still troubles among the two major political groups in Palestine. I mean, it'd be nice to have a two-state solution to this major problem, but first, the Palestinian government needs to get organized and come under one, unified, body. When that happens, and it actually lasts, then...just maybe, the violence in that region would be significantly lower and one day we could see a two-state solution happening....maybe

  • Their fight is equally stupid. They need to learn to coexist peacefully. Their ideas differ, but it's the same everywhere else, and we don't kill people as much as they each do.

  • Where is the "neither" option? Or, "I support both of them in special circumstances?"

  • Israel. The only impression I get of Palestine is that they support a terrorist organization that wants to wipe Israel from the face of the map and indiscriminately fires rockets into Israel.

  • I support a compromise, and peace. Israel doesn't automatically have the right to a piece of land just because Israelites controlled it a few thousand years ago. I understand the need to be as defensible as possible, being the homeland of a minority group that has historically been scapegoat #1 and surrounded by people who think they are the devil. But this is senseless. If Palestine can be a democratic, non-theocratic nation, I say let them be independent. Otherwise Israel has my support here. I support everyone, as long as the killing stops.

  • I don't know. Probably leaning toward Palestine in the current state of things, as the aggressive Israeli rule is something I can't condone. Christopher Hitchens gave the conflict a chapter or two in his memoirs "Hitch-22", it was very interesting.

  • I support Palestine, although there doesn't seem to be a way of fixing the problem until either someone from the outside intervenes (No one in power supports or wants that) or some sort of equal division or intergration is done, and even that is a loss for Palestinians. Israel won't let the Palestinians be citizens of Israel, as if they did, there would be more Muslims than Jewish people in Israel so it wouldn't be a true Jewish state. Now pardon me if this sounds offensive, but why the hell is this a factor at all? They still technically run Israel, have the whole place called Israel, and the ex-Palestinians (if they were allowed to become Israeli citizens) would still be discriminated. As for equal division of the area, both sides would argue over who gets what, and both sides would want everything. That would just lead to a war and ultimately, victory for the Israelis (again.) Both sides need to stop being greedy/(entitled?), and the Israelis less stubborn over religion. It certainly hasn't helped either side be more friendly.

I support Israel's sovereignty but I have compassion for the Palestinian civilians caught in the crossfire. Israel is certainly the most bullied nation in the area and has proven their strength, but their responses are massively disproportionate to the attacks. Neither are really defensible. Palestine indiscriminately fires unguided rockets into civilian territory and hides their guerrillas in schools and hospitals, so they're an obvious bad-guy; but then Israel sometimes blows up those schools and kills a ton of civilians, so they're doing a pretty piss-poor job of being the good guys.

      • It would be awfully convenient if a volcano suddenly sprouted out of the ground under these religious sites and buried them under 20 meters of lava.

      • I'm on the middle of the two sides. One one hand, the Palestinians are attacking Israel, but on the other hand, Israel has been treating the Palestinians like trash so they had it coming.

      • For the most part, Israel. However, the continued settlements they are building while driving off Palestinians is not something I support. I'd love to see a two-state solution one day, but between the powers that be in Israel and the fundamentalist authorities in the Palestinians territories, that'll be the day. That said, I have this feeling that maybe Turkey and Egypt might be able to help. Turkey and Israel are developing better relations and I have a feeling the new Islamic government of Egypt can help out the Palestinians. Although I find it funny how the people for the Palestinians in the Middle East don't offer them any land.
