I feel that in a game like this death should have a huge impact. A simple respawn is to easy and there would be no consequence for running and gunning like a moron. So i think it should be you lose and your items on death(Execpt what you have equipped). This would make need of a banking system to put your expensive stuff in case you die. What do you guys think???

  • That's a pretty steep price to pay. And then, once you've died and lost all your extra gear, you're back to a system where there's no penalty for dying. You can just keep dying and you won't lose anything because they've already taken it all. You need something that you can repeatedly take over and over again, but doesn't directly affect the player's ability to progress past the point where they are having trouble. Glimmer is the obvious choice.

  • I'm pretty sure that when you die, if nobody is there to revive you in time, you probably are sent back to the nearest safe place, i.e outside of the frontier, inside the wall. Plus, bungie wants people to use a single character for many years on end, why would they want people to lose their hard earned weapons and armor every time they die?

  • I think the best way is if all players die they fail and have to restart from the beginning that will also push reason for multiplayer with super incredibly hard dungeons requiring no fooling around and would make rewards more worth the effort

  • No, Staten said that they wanted players to keep playing on one character for years, and no one wants to keep losing their items every time they die, eventually people will just say -blam!- it and make a new character.

    • Maybe Bungie could implement a crazy new system where each player or squad hits a sort of quick savepoint where if they die all progress beyond that point is reset. They could call them "Checkpoints". No, what am I thinking, that is something Bungie would never put into any game they make...

    • I would want like other MMO's: When you die, you revive at a graveyard (or something like that) and items take a durability loss.

    • Why not the system in SWTOR (and other games, I'm sure, but this is one I'm familiar with): You die. You keep your guns/armor/etc. But everything is damaged slightly (i.e. down to 99/100 health for dying once). Nothing that impacts your game in any way, but it's something of note. Why? Because when that item's health bar goes down, your item breaks, irreparably. You're getting squeamish if you're not following closely. A system would be available to get it fixed at the nearest hub/respawn center/med center. Talk to the vendor, pay a small fee, your item is as good as new! Caveat: The fee stacks per death. Furthermore: costs will be more expensive the higher level your item (should roughly scale with your income, however). Thoughts?

        • I could see a more social impact for death. It seems you have to be revived by another player when killed; if you die too much from stupid decisions, others may be less willing to revive you and thus, you would lose out on loot. Assuming of course your loot is based on your contribution to the fight.

Hm... very interesting. More than anything I think your # of deaths should be recorded in your profile, and feature prominently. Maybe you get bonuses for no deaths in a mission/campaign/raid? That way the casual gamers aren't getting screwed, and experienced players have some aesthetic marker or thing that shows that they are bad ass.

Bungie isn't going to scare off the casual crowd with such a steep penalty. Besides, then it would make more sense to play solo because death would only mean reloading the last checkpoint. A decent chunk of the players, including myself, would also get fed up pretty quickly if they had to restart the level or lose such a large chunk of their cash/gear when they died. This would also discourage players from playing on the harder difficulties.

          • I'd like to see death similar to Minecraft. Upon death, you respawn (with a story-related reason) at your home or nearest medical center. All of your items, weapons, and armor are gone -- except maybe a few were randomly salvaged with the return of your body. Then, you have a certain amount of time to get back to the location of your death to defeat the enemy before they make-off with your stuff. I like this more now that it's typed-up. By returning to fight, you're obviously weaker without your stuff. So winning is more challenging; and returning to your former status is like a reward. If you die a second time, you've pretty much lost everything entirely. By not returning to fight, you accept your loss and continue without risking your remaining stuff. Win it all; lose it all; or keep some.

            • We have no idea how the game works yet, so we have no say yet. But even then, this is too extreme of a penalty. What if you're killed by lag, or something along the lines of a glitch, or maybe someone purposely causes your death? But we don't know how the game work yet. Maybe what I mentioned could never happen, so we'll just have to wait.

                • Disagree with the loss of the items but death should have an impact on your progression like you lose that level worth of exp but not the level so if you keep dying your progression is stopped but your not going backward and if you keep dying your not punished to much.

                • I agree and disagree with you, Agree: It would cut done on meaningless running and gunning making people have to actually be tactical which would be fun. Disagree: This would cause people to not trust each other and you would get a setting like Day Z where the intended enemy doesn't become the main threat, the other players do. Even if you don't loose what you have equipped, you will still loose your other items (assuming they will have you carry other items) that could of been hard to find which will lead people to kill each other for rare stuff.

I would like to see it as it was in Lineage 2. You could drop any kind of items on the floor, when you died you dropped stuff, players that massacre other players get labeled as a PK ( player killers ), so when they are killed they drop their legendary items, or something like that. Players could mug each other by killing each other, players could be labeled as MVPs by winning at some Arena matches and by that earn a special bonus. In Lineage 2 the bonus was a stone carving of your stats, you could use a chat system that notified everyone in the world and wings with which you could fly. Since there were no banks or auction houses in Lineage 2, you relied on selling stuff on the streets of cities by opening your own shop, clans could take over cities. That's the settings that I want.
