Hey guys! Here is your WW2 fact of the day! "Did you know that during the battle of Tunisia British and American forces fought against French forces for the first week of combat? Vichy French forces would soon surrender to the Allied army's and help them fight against the German and Italians that were on there way! Your picture of the day is above! In this picture, Scottish guardsmen from the British 8th Armored division (The desert rats) led by General Montgomery charge forward during the battle of El Alamein. El Alamein was to become the turning point in the African theater against the German Afrika korp led by the infamous Desert Fox, Erwin Rommel. The battle took place from 1st of July 1942 to the 27th. Casualties on both sides were quite high for the forces involved, the Afrika Korp (German forces) took 10,000 while the British received around 13,000. As a teaser, more on Rommel tomorrow! Stay tuned. *Disclaimer* I should note that there was indeed a second battle of El Alamein, that resulted in Allied victory. The first however was very significant.
