"Hurr durr they cured cancer but the drug companies run America and want to profit off people's deaths" is the very definition of a conspiracy theory.

Academia has no interest in hiding a cure for cancer, they would love it. The fame, the government grants they would get, and the sense of accomplishment of curing cancer (they're in academia, they don't care about getting rich)? You can't just hide that. The media has no interest in propping up pharmaceutical companies, this would be a great story. And all the medical companies aren't banded together to hide all cures so they can all make a profit. OPEC tried that, someone always sold more than allowed, and they couldn't control each other. And that was just oil.

America is actually the strongest democracy for a slew of reasons. If any of you even bother to watch the news, without disregarding whatever you don't want to hear, you'll know that corruption in the nation is taken seriously. "Ok, well corruption may be taken seriously, but the poor need to rise! We need to fight back the conformists, and show the government we won't take their BS anymore! Really? What will you do, tax the rich? What would that accomplish? It would only make them poorer, and where would their money go? To you, The poor? Wouldn't that just be switching places with the rich? "well, no, we'd make everyone equal..." Really now, because isn't that technically how it always starts? Everyone is equal, except those in power? In fact, you keep talking about freedom this and freedom that, tell me, if the majority of people did want what you are telling me right now, why isn't there anyone in office that is supporting you? Why isn't your plan gaining millions upon millions of supports? Because people are stupid, and are conformists. Really? So, you're telling me the majority of the people in this country, in this whole wide world, are all stupid conformists, except those who believe what you want, and that your opinion should come before millions of others? Sounds very hypocritical... Very Hypocritical indeed...
Posted by: An monkey hero Also, how come we have the technology to create vehicles that don't use petrol for functioning, yet we don't see cars fueled by the sun rolling around?
If you knew anything about what you're talking about, you'd know that solar power is nowhere near a viable alternative to power cars with. It's vaslty inferior to internal combustion. As for hyrdrogen: it's not found on Earth in a state that can be used for fuel; it's always coupled with other elements (usually oxygen). It will also require a lot more development before we can build that kind of infrastructure and create cars that are as safe as current ones.
It's not a conspiracy theory. Where the -blam!- did you get that from?
Posted by: BRADEN OWNZ
Posted by: Bearded Elf Hydrogen powered cars aren't some magical cure to oil. There's one fact you must first recognize. Oil is the cheapest, most portable, and safe source of energy ever found. It's truly an amazing energy source. It's not like you can say "Hey, there's a lot of hydrogen in the universe, let's just drop oil and use hydrogen." No, hydrogen is expensive to isolate, highly explosive, there's no infrastructure to support it for mainstream use, it provides nowhere near the same amount of energy as does oil, and it can't replace oil with our current technology at least. No freedom in America? I ask you, what can't you do?
Not so much that, its just that using nuclear energy to supply electric cars is a far better Idea.
You're talking about two different things, unless you're suggesting micro reactors in each car. If you haven't noticed, there's the Tesla Model S, Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt, buses and trucks are starting to go all electric, Ford Ranger EV, Toyota RAV4 EV, and more and more are just pouring out of automakers. Now, those just plug in to your wall for power. Powering the grid with nuclear power is a separate issue, and there's many reasons why you would or wouldn't want that. For one, disposal of the waste is a big challenge, as well as maintaining reactors that are now up to 40 years old. Chernobyl was a very unique case of failure, but it was one of the most expensive disasters in history. The point isn't that it's going to happen again and again, it's that nuclear power plants must be very well maintained, managed, and run. You can't just start putting them anywhere and everywhere and hiring the local farmers to run them. But it's also very, very energy dense, it's very clean, and thorium could possibly make it the energy source of the future.
Not sure where you're extrapolating all that from, as my leanings are not indicated or implied in my original post. I don't mind people protesting. What I do find down right stupid is who is protesting. Anonymous - the same group that raided Habbo Hotel? What do they know about economics? The group that hacked an epileptic forum with flashing images? You lose most of, if not all of, your legitimacy when expressing genuine concern over policy when your past activities are those similar to what you'd expect of thirteen year olds. Its like if the IRA wanted to legitimately protest Green Belt laws in the UK. Who the hell would sympathise with them?

So, from what I've read, it was a complete and total failure, and only 300-1000 people actually showed up. Can anyone find a reputable source that says anything different?
-
The only way to ensure change is to vote out every single person currently holding office in government. What people do now-a-days is blame the political strife on everyone else's congress person - while re-electeing their own. The elected officials understand this has happened the last 4 elections and they could care less about "protests." Nobody is going to vote out "their guy/lady."
