Basically all the training mode told players was that picking modifiers will affect your score, and that your score will affect your rewards. To get the best rewards you want to add negative modifiers until the game tells you you'll get an A+ score. (Or whatever the highest score you can achieve at your level is.) Datto made a pretty good video on how to get the most out of the Portal, some of it is outdated (the system has changed a lot since its release), but it should be enough to get you past the initial learning curve: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nOMdSex1Sc Now, how to complete triumphs and guardian ranks without the training, that's a different story - but we'll be starting a new season in a couple of days anyway, so I wouldn't worry about those too much.

 • I don't *need* the training, it's not exactly a new difficulty system, and it's pretty straightforward and standard, it's not exactly difficult to understand. But, if i can't complete the training i can't change modifiers, doesn't that prevent me from getting higher tier rewards? Completing challenges etc.?

 • I thought they had fix that, but yes basically you have to do all the 6 training steps before you can’t customize as you want. Very annoying.

 • You can't change modifiers in Solo Ops even? That seems more like a bug to me, and in that case I've got no advice. Are you sure you can't set modifiers? You can't change modifiers in match made activities, that's normal, but you should be able to set modifiers for Solo Ops and customized Fireteam Ops.

 • I've watched videos of people doing it, when i navigate to where i can change modifiers there is nothing i can do. I'm not too impressed with renegades or the updated gear system, so im just going to take this as a sign from the universe to not come back to destiny. Thanks anyway.

 • There's always one... Been more aggressive with what, exactly? I didn't "grind" anything. I logged on for the first time in ages, played the mandatory mission, went to the tower and infused my armour with the free lvl 300 gear that bungie handed out. Why are you defending the asinine idea of tying "required" challenges to training mission? for a system so mundane and obvious i never once thought: "I wonder how this works?". I only ran into a problem when the obvious system didn't work. Bungie isn't going to give you free stuff, you know that, right?
Bungie isn't going to give you free stuff, you know that, right?
Funny irony to what you said in that same message, maybe you should of took your own advice and not take the "free stuff" near Zavala
and infused my armour with the free lvl 300 gear that bungie handed out.
And there lies your problem, you went and boosted yourself out to 300 before doing the tutorial, that chest was something they added not too long ago whereas the portal tutorial has been something that launched with EoF, you SHOULD have interacted with the portal first before soft-locking yourself by grabbing the 300 PL boost that breaks the way the portal shows you content based on your PL Your only solution is either • Try equipping any 10 PL stuff you can get pulled from Xur or collections and see if you can get to do it • Make a new character that will start off at 10 temporarily just to do the portal tutorial Not bungies fault you skipped everything and ran right straight to your freebies in a box, honestly they should've never given people that 300 booster, to avoid this

 • So, Bungie tying challenges to "training" for a system that is so blatantly obvious and easy to follow only someone with a room temperature IQ would even need a walk through, then, having that training option disappear after reaching a certain lvl completely locking someone out of completing challanges or gaining guardian ranks isn't bungies fault? LMAO

LMAO
Ask yourself, what is a tutorial? (Specially one that was made FOR the entirely new modifiers system) Surely isn't for the new players, right? Surely isn't to show the basics for existing players, right? Bungie should just let people figure something new out for themselves with no barebones guidance? Maybe if bungie put a warning label on that chest telling people opening it will bar them from being able to complete the tutorial, yknow, the one that you gotta do if you want your modifiers to stick if you redo the same activity again? Then people wouldn't hastily waddle up to it to get free loot and instead get familiar with the basics. They should of never even made that boost chest to begin with. Or disallow it from being opened until you do the portal steps, but people would still complain, they already do with the whole "why don't my modifiers stick on relaunching the activity?" not understanding that they literally didn't do what the tutorial demands them to do to get OUT of the tutorial tier because they'd refgse to do it Bungie honestly should of just forced people to do it first, period, before being allowed to play the game at all
You are beyond help. lol
No you are, you're failing to understand why this "softlock" happened to you, it isn't bungies fault you went & made the tutorial disappear due to your power level being too high by opening the chest Enjoy having to put your modifiers on Caldera every single subsequent run.

 • Maybe considering putting in a bug report or a post in Feedback before you go, they system shouldn't be like this, you shouldn't be locked out.

 •
Maybe considering putting in a bug report or a post in Feedback before you go, they system shouldn't be like this, you shouldn't be locked out.
Locked out because of getting the dumb booster chest that bungie put in the game that puts players past the threshold of below 100 PL for tutorial (because they made it intended to be interacted with while a player is yknow.. At 10PL or so minimum because yknow.... Bungie reset everyone back to 10 when EoF launched??) A returning player, that was reset to 10, shouldn't touch the chest before doing the tutorial if they want to be able to have their modifiers stay on activity relaunch over & over.
