The problem is, fun is subjective Alot of people find Dark Souls and game like it fun, and it's banging your head against the wall for hours untill you memorize every every single enemy attack by heart, because one mistake and your dead, and that's just a trash mob Like some people can enjoy a casual Sunday drive, and some people need to be in a Formula 1 race Video Game developers are cursed with satisfying both

Difference is that Fromsoftware KNOWS what it wants its games to be, to be hard af catering to only those who love to be punished as they slowly dredge through it. Bungie however can't seem to decide what it wants destiny to be since they keep flip flopping between trying to be 'challenging' but also trying to cater to casual players as well and the result is a mess that a lot of either side don't want to play. Like they introduced crafting to be a way for casuals to get good loot that doesn't require you to pray to the rng gods and then they decided to remove all that cause all the rng addicts and streamers whined that it 'ruined the loot chase' (spoilers: it didn't, they had the option to ignore it). So now they have pivoted in the other direction with 'tiered' loot which only the best stuff is only available through the hardest content so streamers can get their bragging rights to lord over the 'filthy casuals'. And apparently stuff like Grandmasters wasn't hard enough so now we have power deltas everywhere that just punishes the casuals that want to just get their power up. Not all of us find the idea of beating our faces against a brick wall 'fun'. Now look where we are with a lot of people not even playing the game at all and reaching record low player numbers cause Bungie is bad at trying to juggle a balance between making challenging content for the hardcore crowd while trying to make sure the casuals aren't being alienated and it's result in a lot of both crowds just losing interest.

  • Where do you stand then: commit to the players that want to commit or make things far easier for casuals?

  • There's a difference, dark souls has things to memorize and eventually you'll be able to beat it while destiny is mostly bullet sponges that one shot you

  • You still have to be good at Dark Souls to beat the game. It is not just memorization. Even Destiny 2 comes down to knowing what the enemies can do and how to deal with them. Because, for goodness' sake, what Destiny 2 does for difficulty is normal for video games. Enemies will be tankier, and they will hit harder in many video games with variable difficulty. It's one of the most basic ways of increasing enemy difficulty. Others will throw in additional difficulty by making the enemies smarter, more aggressive, and attack faster, or they will give enemies new abilities, or boss encounters new features that the base difficulty version did not have. Do you just expect them to not make the game diffiulty for your enjoyment?

  • Easy enough done in a game like destiny, make harder modes and leave the easy stuff for us average players. OH wait, they already had that, but it was not hard enough so instead of making those modes harder, they made everything harder and now the player base has shrunk to an all time low. Average players don't want to sweat it out for every single drop. We were already getting fewer and less powerful drops, no big deal, we were happy like that. NO need to make the whole game based on difficulty and pushing players in to difficulty levels they can't complete. This expansion is worse than CoO.
