No Reason to play Destiny

Lets get to it: A lot of the core mechanics of what made Destiny...Destiny... are not here, and thats for the worse. The core of Destiny has always been Destinations, Strikes, and Sandbox. From D1 to D2 it has been that way and there is no reason to engage with these fundamental pillars of the game despite intensive resources going towards making them. PvE: Open World Patrol: These destinations have little to no reason to replay or go back to [spoiler]-no more world currency (Spinmetal, Hadium Flakes, Wormspore, Dattalattice...to name a few), not even for glimmer exchanges. -No source of powerfuls or pinnacles in these spaces -No fun or engaging gamemode for each specific planet (Escalation protocol, Blind well, altars of sorrow, Court of Oryx) -No World Specific Loot! (We get world drops & something similar with Lost sectors on a rotation but imagine having a loot table for each specific planet... It would help restore the planet's sense of "importance" when chasing specific weapons/even armor; Escalation protocol had it's own armor and weapons) (This would be a good way to get our old sunset gear back...) -Public events should reward more glimmer + contain good Weapon Drops ^ - Bro I even miss the little patrol adventure-beacons we used to have. It subtly fleshed out the world and was like a sidequest for the main world that you are playing in. [/spoiler] Strikes: Strikes offer no value to the game for the casual or endgame player [spoiler]-no way to get ascendant shards casually (1 per strike) -Strike loot is almost always terrible -not a good source for Vanguard XP or engrams -Nightfall playlist is just better, making Strikes feel redundant -Updating old strikes to be worse than the original (& not restoring older strikes) -No incentive to run the regular strike playlist (Strike specific loot) -Strike difficulty is too "difficult" where weapon choice feels limiting and content feels more sluggish than before -Only reason to do vanguard activities are for GM's -Modifiers like oscillation that make weapon choice even more limited[/spoiler] A lot of what Destiny PvE can be summed up like this: [spoiler]New stuff gets released > "Oh this will be so good when this becomes Viable" >....Years of waiting... Or New stuff gets released > "Oh i can't wait to use this thing/ make a build for it"> No activity/content to put it to use practically. (Raid exotics like collective obligation fall under this one a lot for example) All of which can be simplified to: Grind now> Payoff later (Which doesn't change the bar for the game at all in the short-term) Or Grind now> Payoff now> Irrelevant soon after. (Due to sandbox "balancing/nerfing" which has harmful impacts long-term, it's why a lot of exotics just aren't viable anywhere) [/spoiler] Sandbox balancing: A lot of weapons/ exotic armor pieces don't see use. Exotic Weapons: [spoiler]Raid exotics should be Top Tier overperforming weapons... -so why does Vex Mythoclast/Collective Obligation feel like Garbage in strikes?? Euphony & Conditional are fantastic but are overshadowed by legendary weapons. -Why do new raid exotics not have catalysts? -Why are primary weapon's bodyshot damage getting nerfed? -The sandbox became more generalized...I miss the days of the Charged With Light Mods where my sidearm did more damage- and it was something I can build into (Which is why I am looking forward to set bonuses later, but still a shame its taken this long to see stuff like that return) -No reason to use unique exotics like Sturm/ Ruinous Effigy/ Traveler's Chosen got super nerfed/ Quicksilver Storm/ Verglas Curve/ Lorentz Driver/ Devil's Ruin/ Ticuu's Divination...All of these are super unique, but fall off in viability so hard, harder than most other exotics.[/spoiler] Exotic Armor: (I have 3 warlocks so this will be Warlock Biased) Melee Exotics- [spoiler]Felwinters, Winter's guile, Claws of Ahamkara, Karnsteins... These exotics just suck for warlock, Karnsteins are the only real exception- practicality it's only good for glaive builds. Warlocks just don't have anything for melee builds until you get to prismatic.[/spoiler] Class ability Exotics: [spoiler] [u]Promethium Spur:[/u] This one deserves its own segment. -This Exotic has been my favorite exotic in concept. And i so badly want to use it & make it work. It has such a solid premise but is so severely limited. -You can only use solar weapons & solar super -The class ability energy you get is too low in most content - unless you are solo (even then not enough energy) -Straight up just doesn't create rifts at times. The perfect current day pairing would be to use the Pale Heart Healing Auto with Strategist...But because it is 1 a projectile weapon & 2 because of sandbox nerfs & "balancing" it just isn't practical & its too weak. On top of being a projectile weapon. Boots of the Assembler: doesn't work on random people in patrol & is now outclassed by Speaker's Sight... so, redundant. Secant Filaments: Bugged. Sometimes just doesn't give you devour when you place down your empowering rift...You have to exit & re-enter...This needs to give teammates volatile rounds or something when they stand inside the rift (Similar to a titan exotic: Phoenix Cradle)[/spoiler] I'm not even going to talk about PvP in here because it is its own can of worms that has been left open for far too long. Destiny's bread & butter has always been its destinations & its strikes & it's sandbox. All 3 have been neglected. Unique builds are rare for a game with so much potential. Destinations are so pretty or well designed but have no reasons to go back to them to make use of the sandbox. Strikes are the simplest activity in the game & so many people struggle to complete it/feel bothered to even run it. The only thing worth running are the activities/content you regularly pay for. But they get taken away after a year, only adding short term value instead of long term value. And seasonal content has similar or worse issues as well.

  • This is a really well put together post. I do agree that the planets have been completely nuked. They just serve to host the story mission on it, everything else be damned.

  • Battle grounds sucks. They need to remove them and make new strikes. Pvp hasn't been good for along rime now and the seasons just keep getting worse.

  • I wished patrols mattered. I remember going to pale heart and thinking what’s the point of stigma if witness besides points? I mean pale heart is a good patrol mostly but no random person encounters.

  • Dude 100% the devs and managers keep removing stuff with no thought as to how it synergized with the rest of the game. Now they got people light level grinding so they can do light level locked activities? Why? It's so stupid!

  • I used to really enjoy the rotating planet focus for that week. Can’t remember exactly what it was called but doing activities rewarded a pinnacle and encouraged you to visit each planet in turn. These days there is no incentive to explore at all.

    • D2 is a free to play game right, that means to me that D2 is an E sport no matter if you disagree that's my opinion of it, and think of this PvP is free to play now a days and since PvP is not locked behind a paywall like PvE is, Pvp has two events Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris. Name some events for PvE except holiday events holiday events are for both PvP and PvE.

        At this point in time D1 is funner I can actually use my Ward if Dawn and actually block stuff with it and protect my team mates and I can make my Nova Bomb be a nuke and make all my power fantasy’s come true. I’m sad because D2 lost the magic of the game in favor of faster harder content and than forgetting everything else😢

      • The main reason I stopped playing was because of how many activities I did in the game without getting any rewards. I was part of a raiding clan, and when I was active I would do multiple raids a day. But only got rewards for 3 a week. This means that like over 80% of the activities I have done, I got no rewards for. It was fun for a time because my friends played, but once they moved on there was very little to keep me engaged, and just “helping” with raids was fun for a few years. Just wish the reward system wasn’t designed to punish players like me.

          Yup pretty much. For me it’s the lack of innovation, constant nerfs taking away power fantasy, and removal of content. They focus on addiction and abusing fomo rather than fun content #removeseasonslmodel

          Everything you have stated is BASED. You have spoken for many who have been here since D1 and remember why we love the game. Every expansion breeds Amnesia. We get something, we loose it all next expansion. Sunsetting has never left. It's been veiled.

        • The game is just in a very low stakes mode right now. They were trying to balance the game too much around the evergreen PVE content like SE and Vespers. Now there are no stakes until Apollo and all the loot feels meh ( except for Icebreaker) as well as the established meta is stuck until we get new loot and encounters that change it. If you’ve been keeping up with the game there is very very little to do. Story-> Gild Conq -> Done.

        • The Bungie we have today is nothing like we had with Activision, Vicarious Visions and High Moon Studios. This whole don’t “Over Deliver” pathetic path taken is a cowardice move. Seasons F suck, it’s just some cheesy fluff for the ADHD. Same ol strikes, enemies and capped currency. Same ol BS

        • Great points I miss the OG D1, the mystery, the patrol mode when Blades of Crota showed up and made world feel alive, the Wolves prowled and had a cool event to earn keys before Prison of Elders. Being in patrol on Venus and seeing a team of 5 opening VoG, and helping them on plates, to then get a friend request and game invite and running a raid..... that was such a brilliant idea. Now that FUN is gone, no raids start like that, we don't even have 6 player seasonal activities or casual easier raids that start that way. Not even Court of Oryx or Escalation Protocol..... all gone Its such a shame, the game had so much potential and they take steps backwards. Great post, sadly I think Destiny's best days are behind it.

          Very well written. One thing I wish they did was double down on strike specific Armour rather than removing it. It was a really cool addition in D1 and people loved it. It actually gave me a reason to at least grind strikes that I might have preferred to ignore. When D2 was announced I truly thought they were going to have at least 1 armour piece per class, per strike, or even a full set (back when I had hope). I also feel like having some like Age of Triumph style ornaments in master mode raids is necessary. As it is right now there is really no reason to even TRY a master mode raid in my opinion. I will say PvE nerfs are probably the main thing that gets me uninterested in playing.

        • Bungie has removed a lot of reasons for people to do endgame or higher difficulty content, usually by making the rewards worse, or making easier to gain weapons better. I'd appreciate it if adept weapons, from raids and GMs, and trials, could have intrinsic anti champion mods, which never go away. This would essentially give ppl who farm GMs and Master Raids a reason to use their adepts, because if they make good loadouts with them, they will never have to change every season. Then casual players will say, "Well why not us" but that defeats the purpose of getting an adept weapon. I mean lets be honest, its not so big of a deal that you would complain that much, especially considering how easy content has gotten recently, adept raid farms are easy too, as well as certain GMs. I honestly hate that raid loot isn't even considerable to most players anymore, they aren't highest in stat, nor do they always have the best rolls, its always some world drop weapon or smth. Look, when you think about it, so much of the game is geared towards casual players, I don't think it will make a difference if say, all raid weapons became best in every stat, say the highest range on a 140 rpm handcannon was, for example, 75 (base stat, also exotics will not be included for this calculation) and the highest stability of all 140s was 60, base stat, a raid hand cannon would have both max base stats combined. This would make the gun an all around good weapon, fast and powerful. I don't see it diminishing other weapons too quick either. The highest base stat isn't too much higher than some of the mid tier base stats. Just make these guns better, all round good, with perk combos that some might see as busted, maybe more than one amazing perk combo per raid weapon.

          There are still lots of reasons to play, but looking through your lists I found myself agreeing with quite a few points. I actually came here to complain about the current state of Iron Banner. To say the matchmaking is bad is the understatement of the year. Like saying the Pacific Ocean is wet.

          • Karnstein armlets are one of the most busted warlock exotics, even more so when it switched to restoration. How can you have three warlocks and think it’s only just good for glaives?

            • Your main problem is that you have three of the same characters, you should have one of each, that will solve some of the redundancy issues. Otherwise you are correct and Bungie is getting lazier and lazier with content. Lastly it’s a culture issue in the gaming environment, too much identity politics is clogging up the creativity and tying people’s hands.

              • Some guns are worth farming. But 80-90% of guns aren’t and then on the remaining 10-20% only a few rolls are best. Weapons team could step up their game a little imo, other than that its fine

                  • Very well written, mate 😊 you even went to the effort of putting dot points which are truly factual and honest, under main topics. I miss playing Destiny because the gameplay is amazing and unmatched, but I eventually gave up as the devs left it high and dry. I genuinely hope Marathon fails and the devs finally realise that Destiny was their bread and butter, if it hasn't died out by then. 🙏
