The event passes are just new cosmetics for the purpose of selling them. The year before we didn’t get that stuff for free from Eva or something. It was the first D2 set of holidays where we could, just because we got Eververse Event engrams every time we leveled up. People hated that too, even though you could get every new cosmetic for the event without spending any real money. But that changed when Brightdust entered the picture and Bungie stopped selling bright engrams. And so for years it was kind of the same formula. We get an emblem a ghost and maybe a ship for free from Eva, the rest we could get for Brightdust or silver. The Event pass upgrade is just some extra stuff they made to sell in a bundle while we still get a few throw away cosmetics for playing the event. Like this year with the masks, every mask could be got for free. We got a free ship, free shader, free emblem (two if you redeemed one on Bungie Rewards). I mean it was pretty typical. Not great, but it didn’t feel less than last year. The upgrade event pass was optional, and as a person that will buy a thing in Eververse, the upgrade pass items were extremely missable. Just not that interesting. So I didn’t buy them. And the event felt “fine” for a free destiny event. The Dungeon pass is a bit different. It’s raising the price on the game without directly raising the price. It’s like shrinkflation. What I dislike most about it is it divides the player base again. Now to play with your friends they have the buy the expansion, buy the seasons, buy the dungeons. I’d rather they just made the base expansion $50 and include the Dungeons, then sold the season passes like the do. It is getting the point where I’d rather instead of all these pieces of the game to buy, Bungie just went to a $10/month subscription model to have access to all pay to play content and rewards, though that would encourage designing more grind and even worse drip feeding of content, so you never feel like you can take a month off.
