Something I am tired of hearing is "I don't like this because of their fans". -blam!- that. I will admit I fall victim to it. I don't like Taylor Swift. Is a large portion of that because her fans are the most annoying fans on earth? yes, but also her music and career is built on perpetuating her status as a 'victim' and -blam!- that. Besides, most of her stuff uses worship music cords and melodies. L+Ratio on her whole catalogue.
That said, there is no legitimate reason to disengage from something of quality because you hate the fan base and don't want to be associated with them. Get over yourself. No one truly cares about any of that -blam!-.
Here is my biggest example. I like Fortnite. The gameplay loop is very good, concept is solid, and the game is fair. Especially since they brought out zero build. It is definitely a good game, but I know too many people who claim that it's stupid and childish, or that the fans are cringe and you don't want to play a game frequented by squeakers, homeschoolers, and freshmen. Bruh, if you are going to stop playing a game because of the aesthetics, fans, or the association, you are lame. I bet half of y'all still play COD. It has the same problems (plus an actual play to win issue but y'all are not ready for that conversation) except the graphic design but y'all are like hurr-durr blood make things better.
get over yourself. If your sense of self worth is so fragile that you will not engage with good things because of a fear of association with 'cringe' you have a problem. Stop freaking identifying yourself with larger 'communities' and lean into your individual identity.
Look, You are You. You are not Other People, and while You may share things in common with Other People, You are STILL YOU.
So play Fortnite if you want to, don't hide behind the fear of being 'judged' or something. Why fear people who can do absolutely -blam!- to you?

1 RespuestaThe fanbase reputation/stereotype of a thing will determine who I talk to about it, not whether I like or engage with it or not. My enjoyment is completely separate from my opinion on other fans.
-
Nah, I disagree. I will 9 / 10 completely avoid something or like it from a distance if I can't stand the fan base and that's completely valid.

4 RespuestasI feel the same way with California.

I'm not reading all that but I'm happy for you or sorry that happened.
Interesting topic tho, but hating things because of a fanbase isnt entirely wrong imo just shouldnt be your main reason.
3 RespuestasThis is good but it’s not an excuse to be straight up weird And yeah I still play cod fight me

While I’ve never enjoyed playing fortnite, mostly because my introduction was running around ‘stealth scavenging’ or whatever that is, and getting sniped from nowhere 20 minutes later after playing a running simulator, I have to admit I like how much of a meme it’s become. Goku tea bagging Rick Sanchez before he gets blown up by Thanos with an RPG? It’s pure -blam!- post energy, pretty based imo
-
1 RespuestaI agree with almost all of this. I always think it’s a little silly hating something purely because of its fanbase. Media should be based on the value of the media itself, not what other people enjoy it. That said, not liking something because of aesthetics is perfectly valid. How a piece of media presents itself visually is very important, and can drastically change the feel of a game. Sometimes, it’s hard to get into a game with aesthetics you don’t like, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

5 RespuestasEditado por CommanderGT60: 9/7/2022 6:26:11 PMI don’t like fortnite for multiple reasons. Pay to win. Weird graphics and horribly disproportioned weapons. Building your way out of a fight when it was still a thing. I don’t play CoD. Thats pay to win as well. 99.999999% of all of taylor swifts music I can’t stand cause she complains in almost every song and it doesn’t even sound good.
nibbles crayon
5 RespuestasI like Fortnite a lot. I even reached level 154 this season.

7 RespuestasIf I only played games that the internet insisted were good I wouldn’t play many games. Same applies to movies, music, etc. I play what I like because I want to. And I stop playing what I don’t like because I don’t want to continue them. You are allowed to enjoy things without needing to justify to yourself, others in general, or even fanbases why you enjoy them. That’s okay. And should be encouraged.

10 RespuestasA rant I can get behind. I got tired of the idea of calling everything you don't like "cringe" during the 2010's. If I like something, and you don't why the hell do you care? *anger*

2 RespuestasI don't like Fortnite bc it is 3rd person shooter. Too used to fps
-
I play the game. No respect for Epic but the combat's solid.

9 RespuestasYou may enjoy watching Dora the Explorer and playing with your Tonka trucks but that doesn't mean we have to sink to that level when there are better options available. I can't name any because all modern pvp shooters are heavily monetized half-assed trash, but I'm sure there's one or two that aren't complete garbage while also not pandering to kids who bully eachother at school for not having the latest skins.

1 RespuestaAs a child, I still agree.

1 RespuestaMy issue with Fortnite is more about the fact that I genuinely dislike the game. It has a boring gunplay. Luck about your weapon drops and the circle location is more of a factor than actual skill. Build sounds neat in practice, but it honestly falls short. The circle is an imperfect solution to the problems of building too large of a map and players camping. All these things lead to the best strategy being to hide in bushes and hope you can sweep up the last kill like a vulture. Finally the reward is a 2d image pasted on top of your screen letting you know you won, you get so for the ranking system, but unlike the halo days of old, it literally resets every “season.” COD releases a new game too often and the near instantaneous time to kill encourages camping way too much. Skill is replaced by “who presses button quicker.”
With the TTK, I realize some people like the faster TTK, it’s just my opinion. But also I do think it fits thematically to a realistic shooter scenario.
I’m glad someone agrees that Taylor Swift’s music is just bad. Feel pity for any guy she dates because she’ll just break up with them and make 10 albums about it. I don’t enjoy Fortnite. I played it when it first came out but after awhile it wasn’t enjoyable. I don’t like the aesthetic it’s just not for me. I enjoy some BRs but only like Apex because I enjoy the gameplay. Speaking of gameplay Fortnite’s gameplay is just bland in my opinion. But if you enjoy Fortnite or other things I dislike then that’s good. They are just forms of entertainment and who am I to say you can’t be entertained, but if you listen to Taylor Swift you are a materialistic person.

Editado por pValue2010: 9/7/2022 2:36:56 PMTaylor Swift’s music is simple and unimaginative yet still pleasant-sounding. I don’t really understand why it’s so polarizing cause there’s plenty of worse stuff out there, sadly. Agreed on your main point. If you’re letting fan bases determine what you like, you probably care far too much about what other people think of you - prioritizing your image over being true to yourself and enjoying what you enjoy.

3 RespuestasTaylor Swift is hot, but she sucks at music, at least if you smash you know which song is about you. Fortnite, the PUBG copypasta, ripoff of battle royales, kids love it cause its so simple and boring, its ok though cause it has seasons and has anything you want added to it, be it star wars, deadpool, masterchief, dense characters. Fortnite is about on par with old COD's, minus the fun times of...you know what...nevermind. Yes, somebody shoot the Fortnite kids, please. New COD MW was fun when it first came out, loved running around with my K-98 and MG-34, the season crap got grindy and boring after season 2. Better PVP games in existence: Apex, Valorant, PUBG, CSGO, Battlefield 1...
Was disappointed in Battlefield V when they announced a stupid battle royale mode, qol definitely dropped after BF-1, BF-V just doesn't compare...
Lol fortnite sucks.
absolutely agree, enjoy what you love and don't worry what folks think about you. Every game has toxic fanbase element, its not uncommon.
