There goes a few years worth of farming and grinding for god rolls of GMs and Trials gear.
I immediately went to look up what I could do to undo it. Nothing…and bungie won’t do a thing. It’s quite insane that it can’t be recovered and the game developers didn’t build anything that caches or saves off copies of characters for insane accidents like this.
Maybe have a setting online to lock a character from being deleted that has to be unchecked to do it? I definitely won’t be playing anymore but maybe that will help people in the future not lose sleep over losing hundreds/thousands of hours put into this game.

4 RespuestasEditado por Spicy Water: 9/5/2022 10:47:30 PMMake it harder? My brother in Christ, you need to be hovering over the character, holding the “delete” button for several seconds, and press a whole other bottom to confirm it. Idk how you managed the insane series of events you described, but that’s on you lmao. I mean what are the odds?! You just so happened to leave your cursor on the relatively small portion of your screen with whatever character it was, then you had to put your controller down at the specific angle where it rolled onto the delete button, and the button to confirm it??? I mean this just reeks of user error.

31 RespuestasSounds like a you problem, bungie shouldn't have to implement pointless updates because people are dumb

14 RespuestasEditado por Jvp WReNCh: 9/5/2022 6:51:41 PMI'm trying to figure out the physics of how a squished controller can have a button pressed for 10 seconds, but the joysticks didn't move. Edit: OP is full of -blam!-. The game even has an "are you sure?" confirmation window that you have to agree to to delete a character.

12 RespuestasThey could do that. But it won’t bring your character back. But it might also stop you from clumsily deleting another. Maybe having to spell out delete would be trickier for the couch. You’ve gotta laugh 😂

1 RespuestaEditado por Astrosa: 9/5/2022 11:15:26 PMThis reminds me of that thing where if monkeys typed eventually they would type out the entirety of one piece Honestly have no idea how you managed to pin the controller so the joysticks wouldn’t move while only pressing the delete button the

4 RespuestasYou can tell what happened from your game history

3 RespuestasI can kinda relate but not at the same time. I dropped my controller on the floor and it did the "delete" but I thankfully picked the controller up carefully and it didn't confirm the delete. Stopped breathing for that moment 😂 It sounds like a series of really unfortunate events tho and my heart goes out to you. id be devastated. If you want any help the farming for stuff, add me and I'll try to help!

3 RespuestasThe controller was stuck with the buttons not facing me and when I grabbed it to hit “no” and I accidentally nicked it against something while pulling it out of where it was stuck hitting “a”

Because the moderator edited the post and I can’t make corrections and surprisingly people don’t understand physics and yes I made a mistake in the subject line (the controller was pinned between a futon cushion and a vertical wooden panel on the side of it) here are some more details before any other ignorant people feel the need to share their “thoughts”. Hopefully people will actually read before sharing their thoughts on a tiny snippet of information in the original post (lol probably not though). I will have to describe it I guess because the app has permissions to select photos and won’t let me post it still -4.5 in. gap between the forward most vertical panel (also one of the legs) and the second vertical wooden panel from the front. -the vertical panels are fastened to the arm rest and a cross panel that connect the front and back vertical panels that are also the legs. -It is a little over 3 inches from the outside of the left joystick to the outside of the right joystick. -the apex of the left bumper button is ~2.5 inches from the front panel (farthest from the back of the futon) and resting on the cross panel mentioned above -the angle of the top side of of the controller from the cross panel is about 45 degrees. This allows the x button to be pressed and gives ~4mm clearance between the second wooden panel from the front of the futon and the right joystick. The left joystick is basically right in the middle of the 4.5 inch gap and nowhere near being touched by anything.

4 RespuestasIt’s already pretty difficult to delete a character. You need to hold the button down for a while. On the bright side, you only lost a Hunter. It could have been worse. You could have lost a useful class.
-
5 RespuestasWow that's rough, so gutted for you....also semi funny that it could go down like that. We can lock weapons so characters should have the same at least.
-
4 RespuestasYea that didn’t happen.
-
3 RespuestasIt does say "Are you sure?" Before you actually do it. Unless the couch was actively pushing the button, then this wouldnt happen. You said you grabbed it and you looked up and your characterwas gone, so maybe you pushed the button accidently. If so, then that's on you. You should've just shut off the system first.

1 RespuestaThat's quite spectacular if it happened.

Editado por jackoupinou: 9/5/2022 10:16:43 PMAdding this in a reply because a moderator edited my post with the hashtags linked to it so I can’t edit it at all… Honestly locked characters would be nice still but maybe not having any items physically or campaign progress tied to a charActer would also be a big step in the right direction. It would just be a code change and everything in the backend would be linked to your vault/account and your amount of items carried would remain the same. You wouldn’t even know the difference and aesthetically the game could remain the same. That way, deleting a character would just delete the avatar portion of your account and not delete a ton of items all at once, essentially overriding all of the items locks on all of the items….or essentially making you have to replay all of the story missions.
-
That went Hard As they would say on Twitter
-
2 RespuestasEditado por Fate: 9/5/2022 6:50:48 PMYou only lost your character and anything on it anything in collection and in vault is safe You can simply remake the hunter and equip power level items you were at Though it does reset incomplete quests and the story but you can just play those again when your bored I deleted my hunter to redo her look a few times so you don’t need to worry unless everything you had was on the hunter and not in the vault It’s basically a new game + mode All you can do is move forward your gonna be farming new gear next expansion. So it’s unfortunate but sometimes stuff happens next time be more careful Odds are the new weapons will use the new weapon foundry system and will be better than what you had

I've always felt like it should take more steps to delete a character and maybe even require a password to do so. Especially since the game has lasted so long and is going to last longer.
-
6 RespuestasI completely agree. It should be infinitely harder to delete your characters. Like as you said a “Locked” mode like how you can lock weapons, Or even a “ are you sure you want do this” Message that pops up that you have to hold X instead of just pressing a button. They should have a way to get your characters back just in case something like this happens.
