the bar for entry is participation, if not enough people are in the playlist, than it dies. Who goes to the lighthouse when you can't get matches? No one, this is about sportsmanship and acknowledging that without the other team, there would be no "flawless". Its that simple.
Think about it this way, imagine instead of the 7 win streak, that the only way to get a trip to the lighthouse was by getting to max rep, and then resetting. And then they added the 7 win flawless condition. How would that affect the playlist? Would there be people against it because it defeats the purpose of the playlist? Nope, it would be seen as an extra challenge, one that I agree is definitely a challenge and SHOULD be. Getting seven wins SHOULD reward the players who can achieve it, but we CANNOT and SHOULD not disregard the fact that they CANNOT get there without OTHER TEAMS participating. It does not make getting to the lighthouse easier, they still have to participate, cannot afk farm you get booted and locked out of the playlist for that, and would even reward those that do go flawless. Literally does not harm the playlist and would likely get more people into it.

You're right in that if Trials initially released with the Lighthouse as a rep reward, then introduced Flawless, Flawless wouldn't kill Trials. But, that literally does not matter. That's a straw man argument. Because Trials was introduced with its zenith being locked behind a flawless card, that is its identity, forever. The lighthouse is special because there is only one way to get there, and that way is real damn hard. Would more people play if they softened up the game mode and let you in for just a rep reset? Yeah, probably. But genuinely, I do not care. I do not think killing the identity of something as iconic as the lighthouse for the sake of getting more players is worth it. I'm completely fine with letting lower skill players get their hands on armour and non-adept weapons, but I absolutely do not want one of the very few actually difficult things to do in this game to be further bastardized.

Why does it bother you so much? This is a literal children's game, and you are arguing against making the playlist/game better for more than a few people to get this shiny little digital piece of loot, that literally doesn't matter in the grand scheme of the game, you can get better loot elsewhere, you cannot even craft the stuff. So tell me, please, why be so toxic and gatekeep so hard? What do you possibly have to gain for doing so?
-
My man this was two months ago. And gatekeeping keeps things actually valuable. If everything was easy to get, earning it means nothing, difficulty, exclusivity, they make things desirable.
-
No that's called fomo, and keeps people from playing games and content. I have little time to play games, because I'm an adult and have to work for a living, so the few hours I have to sit down and play a game and have fun, I do NOT want to have to waste time because "git gud" is a requirement to do something in said game. That's bad game design, and just plain lazy.
-
No, that's not fomo. Fomo is rewards being time exclusive, which is an issue the game current has, but skill gating is not fomo. And how do you make earning something satisfying then, if literally everything has an easy out? I get satisfaction out of going flawless because I can lose, because it's not a guaranteed outcome, and I need to perform well enough, or try again. Just because you don't like that doesn't make it lazy game design.
-
Yes it is fomo, because not EVERYONE has time to devote to losing again and again until they get lucky enough to get good matchmaking to win. Literal fomo. I work for a living, and no playing games isn't my job. I work 50-60 hour weeks, that leaves VERY LITTLE time to play a game and constantly lose in it, TIME is precious, MY TIME, YOUR TIME, TIME is the key word there, it takes TIME that not everyone has to spend. Literal fomo.
-
Your logic applies to what, half the game? Nobody has time for that title, that's fomo. I don't have time for these seasonal challenges, that's fomo. Grandmasters are too hard, that's fomo. Things are difficult, that's how it is. Not every game can or should accommodate to everyone. Your point of view is valid, where you want a low skill requirement game with low time investment. Destiny is not that game.
-
That's literally not my point of view, stop being toxic. I'm not saying you cannot still go flawless, I'm saying that you can add a function to the rep system that already exists to allow even players who go flawless to go to the lighthouse for participating in the playlist. Literally only and addition to the game that hurts no one. And yes, Destiny is FULL of FOMO, literally MORE THAN half the game is just do this or you miss out. That has nothing to do with skill at all, and just makes the game more toxic. I have done high skill content in the game, it takes me longer because I have less time to play in general than other people who don't work for a living, but I can still do it. The problem is that I can only do that ONE specific thing, and everything else suffers for it. I either do a raid, or spend time in trials, I either do a gm or two, or spend time doing seasonal stuff. I personally do not have time to do everything in the game, so when I DO play some content, and most of the time is spent banging my head against the wall, for an ENTIRE weekend, just to get some special loot from some special lighthouse. My time has been wasted, because there are people who go flawless 100+ times a day, literally. Of course they may or may not be cheating, again, its pretty easy I guess to go buy a xim and use undetectable aim bots, but why should that affect my play time in the game? It shouldn't. But it does, because the playlist is toxic, the game design is lazy af, and it puts people off from playing the game in general. WHIch is why Trials died many times before, and why it is dying again as we speak.

I see your point. The regular flawless people would constantly get adepts while those dedicated enough to smacking their heads will eventually earn their way to maybe 1 single adept weapon in a season. It would reward them for staying in it for the long haul. Like a marathon more than a sprint so to speak for them. You want those players to stay engaged in the playlist for the health of the playlist. While the good players will have farmed 900x the adepts as the person who stud with it.
