External hard drives normally does not have the speed and performance that the consoles demand and can lead to errors. I would only use external drives for general storage for the consoles, but not for active use.

  • I’ve already done what you said, yet I have the same problem. Plus I’ve been using the external drive for a while now, and I haven’t had any problem whatsoever, plus I don’t think it’s the drive’s fault.

I am not faulting the drive in this scenario. Historically, external hard drives are meant to act as additional storage for devices. However, they do not get to the read/write speeds that the internal drives do. On average, you can get up to 1600MB/s transfer speeds, versus the internal drive and their maximum speed of 6GB/s. Of course, these are only the maximum speed benchmarks and performance can vary. Also, USB port speed can depend on what port you have it plugged into the console. A good rule of thumb to operate on is this: if you're actively playing it, it should be on internal storage. If clearing the cache did not resolve the issue, then something else is blocking your connectivity to the Destiny servers. If I remember correctly, there were a serious uptick in issues with PSN connections. However, I do not see any active service alerts with PSN. I would recommend contacting them, just to rule out any PSN related service issues. After that, you may need to reboot your modem and router.

it's not the PSN with the issues.. Every game I own can play online without any difficulties. it's just not connecting to the destiny 2 servers. it's blocking a lot of people with their (standard) home network. It only works creating a hotspot with my iPhone, then I wont get the log on error screen.

  • Roger. I’ll have it in mind for future reference. So, regarding the server thing, there is not a solution yet?

  • no. they say its an isp issue but everything is fine. there must be an issue with the authentification server.
