It does serve a purpose. Bungie wants us to have a grind that will literally take all year to do so we dont complain about having nothing to do.
But farming for 60+ stat armor pieces of every element for every character then spending 1000s of hours for materials to fully masterwork it all is not an option for me.

I spent around at least 3000 hours on D1 from the day it began to the day D2 began. It was worth the grind but it was not all for a single armor set on each character, and I'm not going to do in on D2 either.
