What kind of activities are being taken away?

If the activities locked behind a season are related to destinations or just some sort of seasonal event lasting the entire time then that seems ok. But if your going to take away activites that introduce new areas, mechanics, basically something unique. Then what’s the point in paying for that experience just for it to go away and then it’s loot to be allocated towards old activites. Idk how this will work, but some clarification i think is needed. For example, let’s say a new activity is introduced with a new area, mechanics, gear etc. You think looks fun and decide to pay for that piece of content by purchasing that season. Let’s say you really enjoy it, but don’t have a lot of time and suddenly the season ends eliminating what you paid for from the game. Is this fair? What about people who decided to buy that particular season later on? Will they be able to play those activities? If they pay the same amount let’s say 3 months later but there is less content is that fair? Ik not all activities will be going away and ik they can’t keep expanding the game forever, but if they make cool things just to take them away and never put them back seems like a huge waste.

  • There is no need to worry, only the ‘fun’ modes are being removed each season.

I was thinking they were talking about cosmetic items and maybe a few weapons/armor They’re going to take entire activities OUT of the game? Like how they literally took out factions and trials? Holy shit someone please tell me I have this wrong because otherwise this game has gone full shit

    • I'm hoping it's not as bad as my brain immediately jumped to. I'm not overly keen on the concept of 'renting' content.

      • The only thing that I know is going away for sure is regular Gambit, but from reading Luke Smith drone on it was pretty obvious that he was trying to softly inform the player base that Shadowkeep is going bring a new era of less content and even more excruciating grinding.

If we are talking about for example paying for black armory then at the end of the season the forges get taken away then hell no Bungie cannot honestly expect people to pay for content then take it away! If he is talking about the current free seasonal events and removing the files from the game install when they are not in use and patching them back in when it rotates back then why haven't they been doing that? I mean we dont need the haunted forest, last years solstice maps, thunderlord quest maps and the assets that that litter the tower with these events sitting on our hard drives.

          • Just skip the first season then, and see what they take away. Then make a choice on wether it is smart to buy the products or stop paying for dlc. Very simple solution.

            • If that’s going to be the new way bungie does things then I doubt I’ll ever be buying from them again. It’s such a dumb decision to take away content that bungie apparently struggles to make (based on what LS said) that I couldn’t imagine giving them my money to support that decision. I really hope they reconsider, but since it’s likely just another greedy marketing decision to get people to buy the dlc so they don’t miss out on the limited time content, I doubt bungie will.

            • They kinda do that now with some events each season. But I agree it sounds like they will be expanding the number of timed events that only occur during that season. Just have to wait and see how it is implemented to make a final judgement on it. The good news is you can wait on the annual pass and purchase each one separate to see if it is worth buying that upcoming season.

              • It's a Limbic sales tactic. So, you have limited time content that you must do now or you won't get the gear, generally, games like WoW or Swtor bind that type of content to an expansion. Meaning the game has a two-year expansion cycle, and they release it in the second year of the Expansion cycle. So like in Legion, we had class and spec exclusive content where you have to do a solo run where you kill a high-level Demon in the Burning Legion. The issue is, it makes sense for WoW to bind it to the expansion because by the Next Expansion, the players would just walk through the content since they would be 10 levels higher and in gear so high they would literally just crush the encounter. D2 doesn't have that issue... You can never get more powerful than the zone allows you. So, it seems that is just an Urgency tactic to get players to invest time in the game. No different than when a salesman tells you, "Yeah, buy it now or the sale might be over when you come back!!". Its a scarcity tactic meant to make you play more, nothing more.

              • Is it not like story based content that's being removed as the season ends, it's all a bit confusing. I'm fine with stuff like solstice and other seasonal content being temporary.

                • You guys will find out sure-nuff. This goes back to what I was talking about months ago. Bungie loves getting players with these fomo mechanics...looks as though they've perfected it. Players will always be playing catch up or they'll miss out. I get the environment changing thing, sounds cool. But why remove activities and loot just to bring the loot back later? Idk. Don't care much either. Instead of blind hype, I question everything. People hate it but, if not me than who? D1 vets should know better.

                • I’m fine with disappearing content. Cost down the road once content has disappeared needs to be addressed. Drops from that content needs to remain exclusive. You should not get gear from something you never played. It’s a smack in the face to the people that played it, and goes against this being an RPG.

It’s basically down to what they can do with console technology now. They can’t keep adding permanent content, so yet again they’re performing an experiment on the players to see how a new system of content delivery works. Five years later, the Beta continues.

                  • I mean you have to understand this isnt feasible in any sort of extended timeframe. Hell the game will be 200gb, not to mention loot balance if you just keep stacking activities, Raids, Dungeons, hidden missions (Zero Hour/Whisper) ect... Plus the participation rates usually go down after the season anyways (BA and Menagerie for example)

                    • He didn’t say all new content but some seasonal activities will rotate out at the end of its respected season. Impermanent seasonal activities are fine as to not make the game to cumbersome that it’s difficult to maintenance in the long run. Can’t have spinning plates that exponentially keeps growing in amount and expect them to all be humming along smoothly indefinitely. It’s just not sustainable.
