Solstice Armor is Burning Out My Destiny Fuse

The unnecessary grinding involved with Solstice is making me slowly hate Destiny again, that when it's over, I don't think I will be in Shadowkeep. It's burning me out completely. I just wanted a cool armor set, a cool title, and a cool pin. I understand working to get something you desire, but Bungie wants us to do all three characters just to get the Sparrow. I understand it's supposed to be done over the course of the month, but 135 steps for all 3 Majestic sets when 90% of the community has life things to do aside from this like: work and taking care of children. Destiny should not be a full time job. 9 hours to go from Set 1 to Set 2? Then from Set 2 to Set 3 is unknown for me right now??? That's ridiculous, even if the player base data mined the steps prior and saved up tons of bounties.

  • I played this morning and then dismantled the armor. The hunter cloak was all raggedy again and the helmet looked like a dented can. I'm not jumping through their hoops and I'm not giving them any more money. Shadowkeep won't be anything but more grinding no matter how many flashy videos they post that try to make it seem otherwise. Bungie has proven that they are now a one trick pony.

  • Then stop. I haven't done a single run. Not one. Armor is just to dang fugly. Just stop.

  • It was a tedious grind, but I got it done. One character is a enough for me.

    • I just dismantled the green armour and said -blam!- it. In the time I could have wasted for 1 set of armour I got recluse, mountaintop and revoker.

    • If I find myself questioning why I'm doing this, handing the controller off to someone else, or just turning the game off and walking away, something ain't right. I know there is time to get this done, but damn son, this is a boring slog.

I agree with you. 100%. Back before Forsaken Bungie said they wanted Destiny to be an hobby. Problem is they have no clue what a definition of an hobby is. An hobby is something you do for pleasure, relaxing and fun in some of your free time therefore can't be anything that: - puts pressure on you to be done on a time frame or be lost forever; - makes repetition the core of the activity; - creates anxiety and burn out; - demands an huge amount of time every day/week; Those aspects don't belong in the definition of an hobby, they are the definition of a second job. Destiny has all of them in spades and this Solstice event is the evident, undisputed proof of that. Destiny became a second job, only suitable for those that have little or zero responsibilities of family, job, house work, etc. It's great for streamers, YouTubers and for those without a full family and/or still living with parents. Everyone else is f***** to some degree because it's impossible to have time to enjoy the whole game.

        • I made it to the blue set on my Hunter today & turned off my Xbox. I have very little drive to progress further. I might get there for my Hunter but there's zero chance of my doing this on 3 characters. Also, the AFKing going on is worse than ever. Players leaving activity as soon as the bounty is met. EAZ is cool. I'd love to see it as a patrol area. The overall grind is a bit more than I'm prepared to see through. Not necessarily bad, jus a bit.. flat 😶

        • Same here dude, same here. I hadn't played the game for a few months and came back to play this event. Its only a few days in and I'm already ready to stop playing this game again. Bungie seriously needs new management. They just can't do anything right. How many ppl do you think will fully unlock the armor on all three characters? 5%? Less maybe? I'm pretty sure Bungie did this on purpose. They really are sabotaging their game.

I'm burned out too. After the tribute hall (which I stopped doing g altogether) I couldn't bring my self to playing I.B. or for the solace. I haven't played in 2 weeks and I want to, I really enjoy the game but everytime I put my mouse on the icon I think to myself " what is there to do if I play that I haven't already done a million times?" It would be different if I could at least grind gear but with RNG being so garbage in the game. I have enough edge transits so I don't play.

        • Some of these responses are reflective of how we have been conditioned to think even 20 hours spent on something sold to us as a celebration is reasonable and an efficient use of our time......our life....when in fact, there’s nothing reasonable, efficient or healthy about it. This is not a dig on any of my fellow gamers...I know they mean well. The current state of the grind is not a good thing. The idea of Destiny is worthy of being enjoyed, but it’s addictive manipulative grind is not. I say this because I stand for my fellow gamers and love the idea of Destiny. Good gaming 👍🎮

          • I rather wait for September. You guys will be burnt and I will be fresh and swimming in Armor 2 sea. I do light grind for legendaries and world mats, which will be required. Stress free, not kill hundred mini bosses here or whack 40 guardians in Gambit. I do gambit for fun. I collect mars for my baby Juju and use blue/green guns to save materials. And guess what, it is fun to use these guns!!!! Try them. Slow managerie work for better gear. Imperial shottie finally dropped with Swashbuckler and Slide and Range. Fun gun for my light PVP shootouts. All stress free fun... oh well, that just me...BTW, I saw a full Titan armour on a guardian already, and ornaments. Jeez, it is hideous. I rather wait....like an orange Tarantula...Thanks...no thanks...

The problem, IMO, isn't the grind itself. It's knowing you're on a timer. If, for instance, you simply had to be online for the event to GET the steps and access to the grind specific areas then this would be a completely different ball game. Heck, make the event give 50% more progress for its duration, then after the event is done you still keep your progress (and the quests and stuff) but it'll be slower (as well as less people doing it). --
Honestly... this is why I like the Warframe grind more. Sure, they have events, but those events can be grinded out in a week most of the time, sometimes even a single day for the smaller ones Not to mention they come by more than once, as in, the exact same event with the same rewards more than once so it's not forever out of reach (it just doesn't count towards your stat sheet for your character, as that's reserved for the 'true' initial event). inb4: "Don't compare Destiny to Warframe." Well, I did, oh well.
-- I ran out of steam to level up three characters in D2 ever since Forsaken came out even though I grinded the moments of triumph on all characters right before it. I didn't do the Easter event, and I won't do this one. Why? I can't commit myself to rush for something I really, honestly, don't care about. If I had all the time in the world (even with some draw backs) I might have gotten around to it. But time limited events in Destiny are now firmly out of my interest. I simply don't have the drive. I may go after the exotics in the future, at least those are available all the time.

            • Destinys a grinding type of game. If the grind only took a couple hrs the game would die out like any other game. In shadow keep it should get more grindy. That's how games get people to keep playing. The sparrow is just like a thing to show you're friends you did all that grind. Focus on your main character and don't worry about the sparrow. The armor is reward enough.

            • Then don’t do it. I’m not. I don’t have the time, and I’m not really missing much. It’s just replaying content I already have access to.

            • It took me 18 hours to do my first set. Multiply by 3 is 54 hours. You have 25 days left, which is a little over 2 hours a day grinding 3 sets. It's very doable.

            • Tried it twice over two nights......done. Not going to do it. Not fun and not worth it. This is one of the worst examples yet of Bungie tapping into hamster wheel nonsense. The rewards aren't remotely worth doing something that isn't remotely fun. This has stopped being entertaining....and that is all a game is supposed to be. Out. Good look to those chasing the goods!

            • As i keep reading people's thoughts on it in this very forums i found a middle ground between starting rawdowkeep any armor would be 2.0 and the is a grind you guys, take your time and there's like a month to get it done and im ok, if there's anything in between youre not enjoying like idk say gambit for me join shoot once a while and throw grenade while you watch a movie, by the end of it 10 gambit matches will be done.
