The one thing they seem to be preserving is the emotional tone of Geralt, and the Nilfgaardian invasion. Ciri, Yen, probably Triss and every other character are obviously wildly skewed to meet goals of the writers for a far different audience. That’s fair in my opinion. Again: the game is the game, the show will be the show. I can see that they’ve devoted a high caliber level of production to it, and it appears to deliver well on the setting. My guess is the plot is probably going to be generic. Regular romance, military and war, monsters and Geralt. I’m fine with that if it’s made for a mature audience. If they teenage this shit I’m gonna be pissed. First season will clearly be testing the water: Geralt is a badass, Ciri doesn’t want to be important, Yen doesn’t have time for Geralt because she’s focused on becoming a witch queen, Nilfgaard is going to wreck shit. I’m sure season two will bring it back to the game’s timeline if the feedback for season one is solid and they don’t feel like turning it into a full scale Hollywood debacle and teenage it up to 11. So given that season 1 turns out to be a groundbreaker, we’ll see Redania conglomerate, Ciri will go missing, Geralt will winter in Kaer Morhen, and hopefully Djikstra is introduced along with Novgorod. All in all I found the trailer promising, and I really hope they put a spin on it that comes off fresh and exciting rather than throw a coat of low cost Hollywood-tried-and-true-industry-standard can of paint on a beloved game franchise to make some money for the crew so they can get by well enough to work on the next mediocre three season show. That last trailer scene brought me back to the game and gave me a big huge boner so I’m pretty optimistic. Discuss.
