Outbreak...finally & a PSA
Been running this since it dropped with my son and his buddy and we finally cleared today. Between school, work, sports, etc. we really could only attempt 1-2 runs at any given time and then have several days in between before we could try again.
Kiddos are 13 so on mic with them for extended durations is not ideal, and they tend to panic while I am the level headed one. Also, neither one has been in a Raid so no real frame of references for getting through these things, often just bull rushing in only to die right away.
We would start out ok, with the third room often our longest and most troubling, but then the jumping crap. I hate jumping stuff, always have dating way back to NES games with jumping puzzles and this is where they would lose me. They would zip through and I was taking it easy and overly cautious, and by the time we got to Trevor they were way ahead, and since I was lagging Trev. would melt me several times in a row while they were in the boss room needing my help.
Well today was an "early release" day so we had a couple of hours before my sons lacrosse game. Jumped in; first run was MEH and we should have wiped but any experience is good experience. Second run, much better and we had 1/3 of the boss left when the timer ran to zero. Ok third run but this had to be the last run because of said game. This third run did not start well; kids were arguing, we took way too long on a couple of sections, and I effed up a couple of jumps...BUT we got to Trev. and realized that we had a lot of time left. Kids got through Trev. and moved on and even though I was lagging I got through without a scratch. We had about 6:30 on the timer to go with Supers and Heavy Ammo (BTW is it me or does heavy ammo never drop in this).
We all got Outbreak and it was a really cool moment of just pure joy and excitement. PSA - Nerf's suck, please stop nerfing, and please have more event/quests/etc like this. The weapon is fun, please keep it fun, the more you pull stuff away the more people opt out.

1 RespuestaCongrats and godspeed, friend. I'm so glad you and the kiddos got through it and had fun doing it. I've always loved these puzzle levels, so my group ended up rushing through it. I wish I could explain my experience with these, but the best way I can think to describe them is "comic relief" and "dumb luck". My friends and I goofed off during almost the entire 2-3 hours we tossed into this, learning the fastest route and sprinting passed TRV and his high intensity game of duck, duck, goose. The boss murdered me constantly, as I was grossly under leveled at first, but we managed to work a strategy that got us through in the end. Its content like this that makes me believe Bungie has what it takes to make something engaging and fun again, and I hope they put more into making stuff for the community to enjoy in the future. The nerfs need to go though.. Nothing screams "time wasted" quite like days [if not, weeks] of puzzle attempts, only to get slapped with a nerf that makes you fall out of love with the loot you earned.

Even with mowing through the adds with little to no downtime we still struggled to make it to the boss with enough time left. I feel like you really need to max agility and equip movement based exotics for those sections but my PS4 is so slow that those changes would take longer than they are worth. Now you just gotta try the weekly configurations. It's honestly not terrible difficult. While there is a lot more parkour elements, as long as you reach the vault with several minutes you should be fine. Edit: if you do try those out make sure to use a puzzle configuration app on your phone or computer, it saved us soooo much time!

1 RespuestaAwesome job. I have not get it yet. I was that close to beat boss. I use weapon call Borealis and Hammer. Me and team kill everything else but 20% boss left..... I was like aaarrrrgggg.

Tell me about this. I completely understand you euphoria! My 10yo nephew came and asked me to get this gun on his account. It was evening and no one was around from my clan so I posted on LFG and got no response to carry a 650... Anyways, his cuteness persuaded me to do it solo. 4 attempts and total failure because I am slow (due to reasons I've in another post) but I finally got it on 5th attempt with 3 seconds to spare. 3 seconds! I was sweating and my nephew was jumping with joy. No matter how much I loved that moment, I started hating this quest. I just got my catalyst and ship (junk btw) and swore not to play it again. I don't like jumping puzzles and think the mechanics of this game are a out off. I started playing other games and only join for some trivial time wasting with some friends now. This divisive quest and the divisive nerf TWAB last week is the final nail in coffin for this game IMHO. It's a great shooter with flawed PvP and cheap p2p architecture but with AAA price tag. I will wait to see how Bungie is making new content but honestly they have lost so much credibility with lots of people I know that I don't even want to be seen playing this game sometimes (I go offline while playing to hide).

This is what playing activities like this with others is all about, challenge, perseverance and reward. That's a story I needed to hear before the inevitable disappointment of TWAB, I know full teams of perfectly capable players who will not run it without exploiting the time glitch to gain the advantage, great to hear you ran it until you got it. Thanks for sharing.

Congrats. Enjoy that time with your kids while it’s still cool to play a video game with Dad! That’s how I got hooked on this game.

While your 'old man reflexes' are kickin' your butt (I'm in my 50's, I understand the struggle), those young guys can be adding time during the vault section for the catalyst if you decide to do that part of it. ;)

Great well done. I did it with my grandson and his mate. Like you I struggle with the jumps however when it comes to the boss I run rings around the younger ones.

Congrats man, it is so much more fullfilling trying until you get it, then doing the cheese that many players have been doing. So i give you props for hanging in there and doing it legit. My lfg team did it first try the 2nd day it was out, no mics, and finished with 40 seconds left. The feeling was awesome.
