Good evening everybody! This is Aifos coming to you alive from a camp out in the middle of nowhere! I was lost out in the wilderness, but this girl here has taken me in, and let me stay at her camp!
Say hi to the crowd, Wendy!
Wendy: “You’re loud, cheerful, self confident.. But I can see right through you. Deep down, you’re actually afraid.
Afraid? Well, I mean I am lost out in the wilderness, so I guess-“
Wendy: “That’s not what I mean. So many people have left you behind, and you’re afraid this place will to. So you act ridiculous. Like a fool. Because it’s better to be laughed at than left behind.
But in the end, it changes nothing. You’re just like everyone else. Living life trying to surround yourselves with people—friends, partners, family, but in the end we all wind up alone. Cold, and lifeless, in death’s sweet embrace.”
Uh.. Are you.. Okay, Wendy?
Wendy: “. . .”
. . .
Er.. *ahem*
So, video games!
Whether intentionally or otherwise, a lot of games give us the option of being good or bad. Sometimes it’s very explicit, wuth morality meters that are tied to our actions & choices.
Other times it’s more implicit, such as giving us an option to kill a neutral, or good creature, with incentives going either way, or possibly not being there at all.
And sometimes, the urge to be evil is a strong one. Reasons vary, maybe there’s a good reward, or it’s the easy way out. Maybe you just want to act out because you can’t in real life.
Whatever the reason, I’m sure most of us have had a moment where we’ve come so close to being the bad guy, but resisted the urge in the end. Let’s hear some stories!
Tl;dr? Here’s my point!
Times you’ve nearly gone evil in games. Or times youhave gone evil. I’m not picky.
My answer;
I was playing Don’t Starve as Wendy. I was in Adventure Mode, and had to venture into a dangerous swamp to retrieve the five Things I needed to get the next level. I knew I wouldn’t be returning for a bit, so I scrounged up some resources.
First; I got a group of 6-7 pig men to follow me as backup. Then, I grabbed Chester, a pack mule essentially.
With everything ready, me and my squad began our expedition into the swamp.
Things were going well at first. The pigs took out the spiders we ran into on the way, and we found two if the Things. But that’s when everything went wrong. We stumbled upon a patch of 4-5 tentacles, all clustered together. My pigs rushed in to kill them. They managed to take a couple down, but not without heavy losses. Knowing we were no match, I began to retreat, but I accidentally stepped onto another tentacle behind me.
It smashed through my armor, and nearly killed me, but I managed to narrowly take it down with the help of one of my last two pig men. Unfortunately, he didn’t survive the fight. Me & my last pig man got away, and set up camp. The expedition was a failure. It couldn’t get any worse.
If only that were true. A group of spiders had found our camp, and even though I managed to beat them, my last pig had become their food. I couldn’t survive another spider attack, so I retreated, moved my camp far away from their den.
I wasn’t quite alone yet, I did still have Chester. He was a small comfort. But, he wasn’t the only one, either.. Abigail. Wendy’s dead twin sister, a powerful ally, summonable via blood sacrifice. With her, I could attack the beehives on the northern border of the swamp, not far from my camp, or even the spiders back in the swamp. Both options would provide great healing. But, the blood sacrifice was a problem. I didn’t habe wood, or an axe, and I couldn’t find any flint, so I couldn’t make more armor, and with my low health running into combat would probably get me killed.
But, then I realized. I didn’t have to go into combat to kill. I had Chester. He wouldn’t fight back if I...
I placed Abigail’s Flower on the ground, and raised my spiked club above Chester’s head. For the briefest moment of instinct, I thought I could bring her back. I thought I could-
But.. No. Looking at him, sleeping next to me. I.. I couldn’t. I couldn’t. I picked Abigail’s Flower back up. I’d find another way. Somehow...
But that’s all for now folks! Jambuhbye!

1 RespuestaLol all the time? I mean who doesn't go full darkside/renegade every chance they get? Its the clear Chad Choice

6 RespuestasI started a renegade ME trilogy playthrough once. Bold and determined I choose the most jerkish options I could find on every conversation tree... and 30 min later I restarted because I don’t enjoy being mean in games. Even in Bethesda games I don’t kill randomly. I guess I did in Morrowind. But that’s only because the “good job you doomed the world, you should probably reload” message was hilarious. Wait... In GTA I drive on the sidewalk. Checkmate, lightside. Tommy Vercetti wins again.

1 RespuestaAny time where my teammates are next to a cliff. It's like I have an inner battle whether or not to push them off.
I always push them off.
3 RespuestasWhen the reactor thing you need to get in density on Titan I nearly shot the fallen captain. To kill. Eek. I also in battlefield 5 I was about to put a bullet through a guy who was manning a machine gun Then I was like...what am I doing. Then I walked away but then decided to shoot him anyway.

1 RespuestaHave you ever heard those tales about Silas Greaves? The legendary bounty hunter who’s said to be a part of every great tale of the West? Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is one of few games I beat on New Game+ and let me tell you this: this story grows in the telling. Thing is, there’s multiple endings.
Turns out that somebody in the audience is the last of a gang that tried to lynch Silas and his brother for a bit of gold back in his childhood. They’re old, living modestly, but they’re clearly as the end of their story. Once you finish your tale, you have two options: Force him into a duel, which he has no chance in winning, or spare him. I chose to spare him the first time around. He seemed repentant enough, and I wasn’t one to gun down a man in cold blood just yet. Then came the second run. I could have earned an achievement for that second ending. Might have been enough to finish the set for all I remember of achievements. Then I came to the moment of making that choice again. I wasn’t gonna gun some old fool down in the streets. Just as I did in the original telling, I tossed him that coin he left me as a parting gift and rode away, and that’s the story everyone else will tell, with some embellishments, perhaps.
1 RespuestaSpoilers for the War Within Quest in Warframe, if you haven’t completed it don’t open the spoiler
So this quest was long and pretty tedious, in the last mission you have to like jump through this shield to attack the boss and it pissed me off so goddamn much, the boss was an annoying character and a major asshole so I could actually care less what happened to her. I had the option to either cripple, spare or kill her, i watched that bitch get decapitated and it was fantastic.
5 RespuestasWell, in my second playthrough of Dark Souls, I kicked the crestfallen knight over the edge. Lautrec, too, but he deserved it. Don't worry though. They'll respawn! In about 30-60 hours' time... When I inevitably choose the wrong ending... and everything begins anew... exactly as it was before... except... somehow... much more treacherous... I mean, yeah, I kicked the crestfallen knight over the edge. I stopped talking after that part.
Also, Chester is the best part of Don't Starve. How could you?
9 RespuestasI always play light side, with some gray tendencies. Fall Outs were easy to play lighter. KotORs I played lighter, but there was no way I was going to give up being able to use Force Lightning and the like. NO WAY!

4 RespuestasAt least one chaotic evil playthrough in all Bethesda games is needed.

1 RespuestaI don’t think I’ve ever picked the evil path in any game. For some reason, even though it’s a video game, I can’t bring myself to do the wrong thing. I always play the good guy and I get annoyed whenever I make the wrong choice and something bad happens.
-
1 RespuestaI dropped the baby penguin in Mario 64.... But besides that, I usually pick the "evil" path such as letting the flame fade in Dark Souls 1 (is that evil though?). Most games leave you on a definite path so when it lets me deviate, I will definitely try for a less generic route.

5 RespuestasProbably Dishonored 1. Haven't played that game in a while, but I remember going for the good guy ending in that game. But, while I was playing and watching the world around me, there was a point where all I wanted was to make the people at the top and those who dared stand between Corvo and Emily not remain among the living. And that was when I realized I was trying to think like how I think Corvo would in the situation. I wonder how it is in the second one. I never did get around to buying the second one. And I wake up this morning to see this post! I'm glad that you did it.

31 RespuestasThere have been times where the only thing stopping me from switching sides to hang out with the villain, is the lack of that as an option in the game.
-
1 RespuestaI was playing Undertale and knew I could one-shot Toriel and then I was like “damn I’ve killed her a lot” and just kept sparing
-
1 RespuestaI may or may not become impatient in my second play throughs of Dishonored. I also may or may not have made several evil fable 3 characters so I could save one character.
-
1 RespuestaI was going to try to play the evil side of Dishonored 2, but I could not bring myself to do it for 2 reasons. 1. I have a hard time being the bad guy in games. 2. Doing a chaos run often doesn't use a lot of stealth and just makes the game too easy.
-
2 RespuestasWhat do you mean almost? Anyone who’s played RDR or GTA has spent at least a portion of the game being evil. Also, creating deadly booby traps in Minecraft, killing marines in Halo, blasting guardians/loot off the map in Destiny, giving the Guitar Hero crowd a dreadful performance.

1 RespuestaSo, I can see how my actions in Dragon Age Origins may be seen as negative by some... Yes, corrupting the sacred ashes of a holy woman in exchange for power from a dragon cult might be seen as evil... Sure, I may have sided with a manipulative Dwarven Prince that betrayed/tricked his own older siblings into killing each other over the honorable traditionalist (that ultimately would have led his people to further isolation and ruin)... I also might have given a magical artifact capable of creating an army of Golems using the souls of sacrificed Dwarves to a madwoman, but I mean Golem Army! Oh, and I guess I made deals with a few demons and allowed them to possess some children... because power! What else...oh! I took the witch of the wilds up on her offer to save our lives by convincing Alistair to bump uglies with her and give her a child that has the soul of an Old God! Hmmm, oh, I also killed Sten cuz he was a jerk and Liliana cuz she was nuts and attacked us. And then Zeveran, Isabella, and I lived happily ever after as pirate best friends with benefits!

5 RespuestasFirst time playing Fallout New Vegas I was in Caesar's tent to, you know, assassinate him. This was on the Ides of March that I first killed him actually, that's a proud and probably kind of dorky achievement I have. After I killed Caesar, as those of you who've played it know, I had to decide what to do with Benny.
For those who haven't played it, Benny shoots your character in the head at the beginning of the game and steals the important package that you were carrying. Somehow, won't spoil, he gets caught by Caesar and so he's there tied up and gagged in the same tent as Caesar.
I wanted so badly to kill him, to finish my western revenge with my .44 magnum and a smirk saying "Do you feel lucky, punk?" With that I'd have given him exactly what he'd given me: a bullet to the head, only I would finish the job. I talked to him first and big surprise I asked for me to let him go with the assurance that I'd never see his mug again, but I could also leave him to his captors who would literally crucify him...I was on the verge of letting him stay there so I could execute him myself when my better angels stepped in and clicked the release option instead. I left the tent following Benny, the moment we left the tent however the enemy started to attack Benny. They would attack me though because unlike Benny I had brains to spare and put on a disguise. I watched as the enemy put rounds in his back, killing him. In the end, I was the bigger man, the punk got his due, the Legion lost their Caesar, and I walked away with Benny's clothes and gun, and Caesar's clothes, and the guard's clothes...okay so I got a lot of clothes that day
