I hear you, as far as D1 vanilla and D2 vanilla they are very similarly structured, as in lack of endgame & lack of reward. At some points it really felt like it was 2 steps forward 3 steps back.
This is one reason why I find the new annual pass structure to be Bungies sweet spot if they can execute it properly. Rather than a “one and done” dlc, we are getting weekly updates with context in lore. It needs work but I have a feeling after September “the official Activision split” we will be playing a whole new model. As long as the game progresses positively I have no real issues with the rng and weapon quests. I have gotten so many exotics I have never touched that I realized that being a collector isn’t really my goal as a player. I like building my play style on a character and moving to the next.
I have finally mastered the way I play as a hunter and am slowly working on a warlock and next a titan.
High hopes for this game. Patients is a must.

Annual pass may pave a road to success, true, yet in same time it may lead to somewhat disastrous situation. I don't mean Bergusia Forge lock, but overall experience for vast majority of paying audience that may find certain activities to be too difficult/boring/not rewarding. Given all those rumours about rather unwieldy development tools Bungie uses, I am not sure they'll be able to quickly react and adjust content to rectify the situation, should it require more work than just opening Bergusia for everyone. Sorry being a pessimist here, but I find it to be more beneficial - you're either right, or pleasantly surprised. :) While I am all for new interesting content, I am somewhat reserved on what's coming next, because honestly, I am not big fan of "quality of life" we have now, and I do not mean enhancement cores implementation alone, for example. Yes, I do think they are too taxing and force you to farm them instead of playing activity you like (I'd gladly dork in forges, for example, I need more godly rolls than air assault and slideshot:D). And with two light levels up before us, I am shudder to imagine how many times I'll have to buff my arsenal. Even mains only, not swaps. If only we could get refund in full cores cost when dismantling a masterwork item... But I digress. Another QoL thing I don't like, is amount of legwork required to forge frames. Buy single frame, do requirement, farm radiant seeds, return to Ada, forge frame, rinse, repeat. Why can't I buy dozen of frame, farm 200+ radiant seeds, then return to Ada and forge them? There are "prototype" frames we buy from her for Glimmer, and they can be hoarded. I like participating in forge activity (but I'm strange - I also like Gambit), but all this "paperchase"-like activity kills all the fun for me. My issue with RNG is quite simple. Three example. First, Hazard of the Cast, my favourite rifle in game. I could get two Breaknecks before I got my first ever Hazard. My vault had all types of Gambit items, but not a single HotC. Even today, with 12K infamy points and one reset I still had only four of them (three of them sucks). Second, Osprey. It is the only item that separates me from Wayfarer (I still don't know what it gives, actually). But it's annoying not to be able to put that thing in and "close this case". It's just exhaustive. Third, Black Armoury rare bounty, needed for... something, it requires Obsidian Crystal, that requires rare bounty and till this day I had only two, one of which I couldn't complete, as it required four BA items equipped and I didn't have them back then. I mean I had more than four, but not in four slots. Does this irritates? Well, yes. I am effectively "gated" from performing activity because... raisins? While I care little about collections of exotics (still use Actium War Rig I got back on Titan during early campaign), spending almost a month without single exotic engram drop and having first post-drought being same gun you just bought from Xur is not really pleasing by any means. I was thinking on playing other classes, but something holds me back with this one. Maybe hunters are more agile and Warlocks are more deadly, but I feel fine with my titan for the most part. Other than that, I guess "wait and see" is the only thing we can do. :) So let's our waiting will be exciting and entertaining.:)
