the problem is, they said our D1 gear was going away - we were supposed to lose it. But then they pulled the panic switch and started readding stuff. So it's not so much "asking for old shit to return" but giving us what should have never been removed. i do however share your sentiment, that if they are going to bring back old gear they should be introducing new gear. ie. every time they bring back x amount of old exotics they should have x amount of new exotics.

The old stuff is better than it is now. Remember Zhalo? Chained lighting often, charged super insanely fast, wasn't an SMG. Now we have an arc shielded bullet hose of slight tazing. Remember truth, dragons breath, jelly horn? Now we get rockets with 1 shot at a time that have a fire rate of slug to snail. D1 weapons were better than most of our current gear.
