Why Luna/Not Forgotten, streamers and youtubers don't want SBMM? Here is the answer!

If SBMM would be implemented, two things will happen: 1) -those with high scores/high skill will ONLY face others on relatively high score/skill (this will make harder for them to farm for Legend rank, or even reach teh ranks for weapons, not impossible, but harder) 2) -Low skill and low rating players will have a easier time to climb the Glory ladder, facing similar skilled level teams/players The tryhards don't want this to happen. The tryhard "skilled" players got their Luna by FARMING LOW SKILLED, SOLO players. SBMM will not allow this anymore, they will always face equal opponents, and they will have a way harder time to push for ranks and achievements. Thus, they don't want SBMM to come back, because they are scared of facing oponents of equal skill, they want easy fast wins against folks such as myself, to get their Luna and brag about how good they are. The rest of the player base, the majority, is stuck feeding their egos, and they are literally a glory farm for these dudes. Streamers and youtubers will have a harder time posting awesome clips about their 180's and other shenanigans, will have a harder time to climb. These players HATE, and are scared to death about sbmm and solo queue being truly solo. They want / need a system such as we have now, where they can fireteam with other skilled friends and go and steam roll new players and players who aren't too good at crucible, to get their weapons then BRAG ABOUT THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS (all done against lower skilled players, btw). I have watched a streamer for example whom, when he start facing high skilled opponents, simply quit and went to do pve because "ehmmm...i need to finish my weekly milestones", in fact he was raging that he was losing and stop doing pvp for the day. This wouldn't have happened if he would have faced noobs like me and constantly winning, in fact he would have gladly pvp for the rest of his stream, showing his "skillz" Here you have it folks, this is the reason. I would gladly take a queue time increase if sbmm would be applied, and not the system we have now in place, it is corrupted, broken, does Bungie don't see this, don't they care? TLDR: the wannabe mythic glory ranked ones don't want sbmm. Because then they will start to lose against same level opponents

There is only one negative to SBMM and that is you will occasionally play with someone who is lagging. But that is already happening for some reason now. They should definitely add it. They need to. Or else add a solo only comp queue. Or even a Rumble comp mode (top three get points)

    • You know you can do your own sbmm right. Step 1. Check Emblems {people love flexing their pvp emblems} Step 2. Check for groups {not stacks stop calling a group of people stacks. Stacks is just a term you scrubs use to justify your lack of skill} Step 3. Check the weapons of High Score pvp emblems and people in groups. Step 4. Stay in if you think it's a good match or back out. Sure it'll take longer to find a game just like sbmm but atleast the games are more fair right? Oh? You don't wanna sit in matchmaking for 10 minutes? Oh you want me to sit in matchmaking for 10 minutes. So question why should I have to sit in matchmaking for 10 minutes so you can play all no thumbs like yourself.

    • We desperately need SBMM, I don’t care who I play but at least pair me with guys that are equally skilled. The matchmaking is terrible.

      • i'm afraid that it will be too late until Bungie really realizes that at least a certain amount of sbmm must be present in all playlists, based on k/d, elo or all-time glory and it has to be a personal sbmm not a team average with very good and very bad players in one team. Too many casual players, myself included, have already stopped and left crucible / Destiny because of that. the top players just do not want to understand these arguments that splitting the players into different skill classes will only benefit everyone, otherwise crucible will slowly but surely die because of the decreasing player base. nobody wants lag matches but 90% of the players don't want pub stomping feasts in other games like cod it's the same problem and a few streamer now wants sbmm back because they are tired of carrying the whole team in every match...

      • SBMM = More consistency in stats and player skill growth No SBMM = Poor consistency in stats and skill growth SBMM = A higher chance of fun No SBMM = A lower chance of fun SBMM = More accurate stats No SBMM = Less accurate stats SBMM = A better legitimate PvP scene overall No SBMM = What we currently have

        • So youre telling me i have to face people with a similar skill level? Thats all well and good but that means i get matched with people from japan, malysia, spain etc. Why should every game i play be a lag fest just so the less skilled can think they are better than they actually are?

          • Man most of the people in here defending sbmm are childish cowards. Wtf are you afraid of? Lag? Lol. We already have that. I get matched with people 1000s of miles from me every other match when a majority of the player base lives closer to me than people I get matched with. Just remember, if you wanna talk about your world rank or your k/d please don’t forget that you’ve never played against anyone half as “good” as you with CBMM. Your accomplishments are about on par with anyone farming materials for forge weapons. God forbid we join the 21st century and have dedicated servers. I’d love to see that meltdown.

          • I don’t want SBMM in non ranked playlists either. There’s no incentive to sweat there and I also play with some friends who aren’t as good as me. Why should they be punished for playing with me?

          • Mtashed admitted this in his video entitled "This is what Season 5 is going to be like" dated November 25. He basically said that he doesn't want to stream in Comp because he always gets his butt kicked, so he goes into QP for his streams so people will see him dominate against the lower level, solo players. Whether or not you prefer playing against equal skill players or shorter queue times and better connections, the streamers don't want SBMM because it messes with their income. Nobody will watch them if they are continuously getting thrashed by equal skill players. They have the loudest voice in this discussion and their opinions are clouded by their paychecks. My problem with this whole discussion is that people treat the connection problem and the SBMM problem as the same thing when Bungie should solve the connection problem regardless of whether or not SBMM is implemented - it shouldn't be a one or the other type situation.

In my own opinion, quickplay should stay how it is. Sbmm should stay out of it. Comp however is another story. The inconsistency and imbalance in that playlist is ridiculous at times. Also, I’d personally like if they’d remove or at least reduce the amount of times heavy can be picked up in comp :)

                    • I am glad the community is starting to see the truth. I have been saying since season 3 that removing SBMM, especially for comp, is a bad idea (there is still no SBMM in any playlist, by the way), but noo, the streamers said SBMM is bad so we must believe them. And where are those players now? Most of them are gone. The crucible daily player numbers are at an all-time low, which I warned would happen. Continuously throwing players to a brick wall does encourage them to retry. Who would have thought? This is why I have been proposing a he following solutions to the comp problem, and despite being simple with a very high likelihood of succeeding, they have so far fallen in deaf ears: 1) solo queue: no one likes facing 4-stacks, especially when going solo; 2) make game voice chat ‘opt out’: Default game settings do not encourage communication ; 3) enable SBMM: match players based on average K/D, not Glory score (which doesn’t work anyway) or connection; and last but certainly not least, 4) Remove point loss on defeat in competitive: If you will do only 1 of the solutions, this is it. I can almost guarantee a substantial increase in player base would result from. Giving players a sense of progression and achievement is a basic in video games, and so long as this obvious but crucial fix is not implemented, Destiny 2 will never truly get out of its shit. Yes, a few elitists/stacked players would object, but honestly, it wouldn’t really hurt them; in fact, it would help them; and they have no good reason other than to strawman & call it a ‘handout,’ which it clearly would not be when considering that ranks are time-gated & that losing would still give you no progress. Or we could just let the game stay as is going downhill until it becomes a complete dumpster fire that no one would touch with a 10-foot pole. Your choice.

                      • Unbroken title holder here. Comp is rbmm so the higher you climb the harder your opponents. There is a phenomenal difference in skill once you hit mythic to legend and if you can't hit fabled with this rbmm in play then you just aren't very good.

Skill based match making is not fair for a game like destiny. I explain you why. If the rewards were only cosmetic, fine. But you are competing for loot. Extremely good loot (that should not be there to begin with). So, basically you will create a situation in which Group 1 with skill 1 (from 1 to 10) - Gets there, and obtain the same loot as: Group 2 with skill 9. And its' the same reason why you can't have this in Trials as well. Now, you might say "Both had to try hard, since it's sbmm". No, that's not true. The group 1 didn't "try hard". They just playing against similarly bad teams. None of those teams were "trying hard". Group 2 had to try hard, and at the end, both had the same loot. The problem with this system is that it will not encourage improvements. It will encourage smurf accounts, and carries will be beyond easy, cause they will still exist no matter what. Pub stomping will still exist thou rout smurfs. SBMM can only exist if the reward is not 'usable' loot. The best way to aproach it would be throughout ELO based match making. So in that way, everybody will have to reach a certain tier to get there anyway. If you abuse the system, eventually you're not going to be able to progress (ie: paid carries or some sort of group matching to boost elo.) PS: To make sense of all the rest. The point system would have to be based on elo and not glory/valor. Makes no sense everybody earning the same amount of points in different tiers.

Just another salty below average pvp player who 1. clearly doesnt understand the game enough to give feedback and 2. wants to have the benefits of the hardcore players while only playing like a casual.

OP - This is a pretty one sided argument. But assuming this was the sole reason people dont want forced sbmm in social playlists I dont understand. It sounds like you think that bungie should enforce mandated sanctuary to mediocre players. If I've spent lots of time becoming better then the average player at this game. Dont I deserve to win more and have more fun? What's the point of becoming good if I'm always playing someone as good or better then me?

It’s kinda funny, back in D1 we were angry about having SBMM and people were begging Bungie to get rid of it, and now people want it back. SBMM in comp is a good idea. I agree with that 100%. SBMM has no place in Quickplay though.

                                        • Personally, not a fan of SBMM. I enjoy the mix of more difficult opponents but also relaxed games in quick play. After a full day's work (15 hours, chef life 🤮) a couple hours in crucible with SBMM is a no go for me. I can't be bothered with meta weilding try-hards all the time during the only time I can play. It's fun to see what other players outside of meta are running, finding those diamonds in the rough and running fun plays both enhancing your fun factor and showing what is possible to lower skilled players. Say what you want but in D1 I got decent matching players above my skill level but also kept glued to the game through fun crucible games that weren't all meta.

                                          • You have the issue directly in your crosshairs. The game is being held down by Youtubers and other content creators. It's bungie's fault really because by releasing a shallow game they left the door open for them. To shut up the internet, they built the game content creators wanted. And the content creators lie to everyone daily. "SBMM is bad" "20 hours per week is casual" "infusion needs to matter " but in reality I play 80 hours per week and I need content for my viewers. All the problems don't effect me because I can dm two God tier players to run with at will, the hours I play give me more cores and materials then I will ever need, and I can save powerful drops for the next dlc. We are not playing the same game. I won't be coming back. I will master the shitty gunplay in rdr2 before I come back. Goodbye Bungie.
