Right now I feel that Destiny 2 is in a very bad place for casual players and specifically for myself who tire of the endless grinding involved. When D2 first came out I understand that the biggest gripes some people had with it was that it was way to easy to complete everything. Basically completing everything to quickly with nothing left to do led to a really big problem for Bungie and a lack of content.
So we know that when D2 was first released it was very much favored towards the casual player not the hard core players. And when I say hard-core players I am mostly referring to those who have an abundance of time to play the game. These players would quickly burn through the content given and the rest is history. Now we arrive at the new problem. Bungie going in the extreme opposite direction causing another kind of problem altogether~!
As of right now at the moment it just feels like it’s not rewarding enough for the casual player in D2. Basically the reward time ratio isn’t proportional and definitely not worth it. D2 has basically become an extreme repetitive farming grind with very little loot rewards to show for it.
So currently in order to get anything rewarding you need to dump insane amounts time into this game. You must also be extremely lucky with drops, it’s a situation where casual players loose out big time over the hard-core players.
Also Exotic drop rates have been nerfed to a point where it’s ridiculous. You grind for weeks now while getting relatively nothing rewarding for your time. And when you do finally get an Exotic drop it’s just a repeat one with a very small incremental light level increase. Not to mention I have two other characters I would really love to spend equal time with but that’s not practical anymore, not if I wish to accomplish anything meaningful in the time I have. Again it’s the casual players who loose out big time here.
There’s also so many other issues going on right now that make the causal player feel so neglected and overwhelmed. Take all the continued weekly and daily grinding quests going on right now, most of us don’t even know where to start anymore~. I can’t even complete a fraction of them with the time I have even if I focus on one character or not. Forget about things like the quests for hunting down the hidden eggs with the Wish Ender Bow etc. We just don’t have the time for that. Also many people won’t ever get that bow because it’s just to time sensitive.
Another issues going on right now is that in the past with Destiny we would specifically look forward to Fridays~as to at least pop in to see if Xur was selling anything good. Well that’s gone, it’s for certain now that won’t be selling anything new anymore. And you know what, that’s very sad thing in my opinion. Bungie is being extremely stingy with the loot here especially with the new Exotic’s. I understand making it challenging to acquire good stuff that’s important but this is just way to extreme in my opinion.
Ok so I know a lot of you do have the time to play this kind of system and you feel D2 is just fine right now and in a very good place. That you don’t mind the constant grinding every single day because you have the time for it etc. Or that some of you just don’t care about the rest of us who don’t have the same amount of time you do to play this game. You may also in fact like the very low drop rates because you have the time to grind the system endlessly and eventually you will be rewarded for your many hours spent. And finally that you really want to feel like a special little snowflake who has those very hard to get weapons or items that very few others have unless they put in the same amount of time. I get it! Ok, but this game shouldn’t only be about you~!
I think Bungie really needs to find a balance between the different types of players here. I feel right now Bungie just went from one extreme player style type to another. Anyway you look at D2 right now and it’s not in a very good place for causal players right now. We just don’t have a vast amount of time to invest like you do.
Final thoughts, right now I think Bungie should be very concerned for the causal player base. I don’t want to stop playing D2 but I also want to feel like my time will be rewarded or worth something in the end. I really hope Bungie reads this post and gets things changed in a way we can all agree upon will feel rewarding. I really want to remain a Destiny player but it’s not in a good place right now.
Worse, right now I don’t see D2 going in any other direction other than to it’s hard-core base. It’s without a doubt continuing to move in the extreme opposite spectrum from where it started. It’s very unfortunate for those of us who just want to hop on after a long day at work to play and relax and feel like we can accomplish something meaningful in the limited amount of time we have.
So I don’t like to leave without giving you some good constructive feedback. It’s easy to point out problems but harder to give good suggestions to help fix the problems. So for what it’s worth here are a few suggestions I have and I thank you all for reading this. Piece!
PS: Please feel free to leave some of your own ideas and positive feedback here as well and let’s hope for some positive change! ;)
1. Implement some kind of smart looting system. Everyone knows what I’m talking about here. Some people have completed the Raid 30 times already and have still not gotten 1000 Voices. Others only completing the Raid once and gotten it. It’s time for this to end.
2. Add way more loot to the game and increase the drop rates. Even if you only did this one thing it would go a long ways. No one likes playing a game and not getting any good loot drops in the time they play.
3. Make public events meaningful again. I don’t even bother doing public events anymore it’s rather pointless.
4. We need more armor sets and Bungie needs to make them versatile. This game has turned everyone into a massive hoarder. Why not let us spend points or currency and choose the stats we want on the armor and weapons we like to use?
5. Please add more storyline missions to Destiny. The lore in Destiny is the best of any game out and I just love it. Please add more quests with cinematic’s story line missions that center specifically around that content. It would go a long ways in making you feel like you have accomplished something while also getting powerful gear in the process. Also getting characters Raid ready should not feel like a chore.
6. One more important thing, please don’t make us use weapons that we don’t want to use in order to complete quest objectives etc. I really hate being forced to use a weapon or pice of armor that I really don’t like to use. I feels sometimes as though Bungie is really trying to control too much in the game. I just want to play the game the way I like to play the game while making progress in it. Thanks.
