--RUSSIA--COSMODROME--TWO-WEEKS-AFTER-ULDREN\S-DEATH --
Cold, harsh wind and ice scraped across the exo's face leaving ridges and scars across his weathered frame. Russia was a harsh place, always had been always would be. That was why he had died his first death after all, Russia had taken him.
Reminiscence of his first days as a Guardian flooded back to him like a Crypt dream. The shock, the realization of simply being, the realization of his being alone, then the realization that he wasn't alone after all, then a friendly ghost.
It was that same friendly ghost who now broke the Titan's reverie. "Think we're there yet?" Stedi asked in her usual upbeat tone.
"I don't remember much from my past lives, but I'm pretty sure I've heard that one before." Ringer-7 replied sarcastically.
Stedi made a show of rolling her one eye. "Haha smart mark, leave the wit to hunters."
"Are you suggesting I punch you instead?" Before the ghost could answer, the Titan stopped abruptly, holding his hand up for silence. "We're here ," He said quietly.
On the horizon was a massive facility, desecrated and decrepit in the holy white snow. Half buried satellites poked their dishes out of the ice, waiting for a chance to be useful once more. The Titan could see evidence of Warmind technology throughout the entire compound.
This was definitely the place.
"So Ana was right, there really was an old golden age factory deep in the plaguelands," Stedi sounded impressed . "That girl's not as crazy as she sounds."
Ringer-7 looked around as they entered the old building through a broken window. "Crazy or not, wherever Bray leads, crazy follows," he said dodging rusted wiring.
The two explored the rooms one by one. Most every door was blocked by huge build ups of ice and snow, but when did obstacles stand in the way of a Titan?
In the corner of the sixth room he entered, Ringer found a cache marked with the number 3. Inside was a cluster of information, a journal if you will, of a one Biocatarus-2. It was a goal of Ringer's to track down that missing guardian, perhaps he was the one who called him here?
A quick look through the contents shut down the exo's theory like a nova bomb. This wasn't why he had been led here, it was just a happy accident. With a shrug of his powerful shoulders, he resumed his search for whatever had led Ana to this location.
Seventy-nine rooms later and still no success. Stedi floated to Ringer's shoulder for a rest. "Any idea what we are looking for? You know, specifically?"
" Ana received a transmission from an unknown source. It said it wished to meet with us at Facility Gravitos-19-34. None of this is ringing a bell? "
Stedi made a 60 degree tilt on her axis. "Nope, not really. I must have been dozing again. No, of course I remember, Ring. My point is that we are at the place we were supposed to meet and no one's here. So what do we look for now? I don't see any doors to open..."
"Or faces to break," added the Striker. "Guess we just keep looking. Maybe they left a note or a sign or-"
The ghost jerked in surprise as she saw two figures lurking in the back of them room. "-Or them?"
Ringer snapped into action bringing his pulse rifle to bear on the two skulking figures. He could feel the rage, the need for battle rise within himself, taking over his will. Restraining his instincts, Ringer demanded they reveal themselves.
Out of the darkness came a broken voice. It's owner stepped into the light as it spoke.
"No way to treat old friend. Thought you were more loyal than that." A familiar low chuckle crackled in the frigid air.
" Variks? Is that you? " Ringer lowered his rifle, the battle surge diminishing. "Where have you been all this time? We were worried sick when we didn't find you in the Prison."
Stedi's gears moved fast with excitement at recognition of their old partner. "So good to see you, old pal!" She looked past the Eliksni to the figure behind him. " Who's that you got with you? "
"Who do you think?!" Came the voice of the second shadowy figure as she too emerged from the background. The awoken Hunter took her place proudly by the Judgement scribe's side, her courage and bravado on full display.
"Oh," Stedi said in a snarky tone. " Of course it's you, Shadow. " All Stedi received for her comment were three icy glares as silencing as a Russian blizzard.
"I don't understand," Ringer exclaimed . "You've been alive all this time, why haven't you contacted anyone?"
Shadow looked to the ground, downcast. "We ran into a...complication."
" That is not important point, " Variks interrupted. " I am here now, yes? Needing your help, and... Skills. "The comment hung on the air for a moment, as if it was unwilling to be spoken.
"You have my attention, Variks. Tell me what you need."
Old man winter was the only other witness that day of the conversation that took place. Winter was harsh, winter was cruel. But not as cruel as life. And guardians have many lives.
